Obesity

Yeah I'm done. After seing this picture I'm really tired. Gonna do diet, surgery, everything to get me away of this disease. Sorry for the rant but being this fat is fucking my mental state so much.

Good luck OP. I was over 14st 8, I've lost over half a stone in a few weeks, currently using raspberry keto, apple cider vinegar and tumeric pills.
I am not doing exercise so it is probably 99% due to cutting back on junk food and pop, down to 1 meal and 2 packs of crisps a day max and 15 bottles of cider (was 20 - 30) a week. Not the right way but it's working so I will take the pills even if just as a placebo. I usually yo yo just doing this but its a head start imo.

Finally got my garage clear so will hit the weights and start doing it properly (though that usually makes me hungry). I am sure there will be lots of good advice off people here.

My brother was a similar size to you and he got down to around 14 stone with diet and weights for a year or so, he really worked at it, he was after a bird... I am sure people will have some real advice on how to do it a healthy way.

I get it man. 21st century life in a Western country (especially the US and UK) is basically designed to make us overweight. Sugar is EVERYWHERE and insanely addictive.

Food has become literally engineered to be as delicious and addictive as possible while being as cheap as possible.

Eating properly takes significantly more effort than eating junk.

I'm currently overweight but just starting to get back into the swing. I've reversed all this before very successfully and I'm about to do it again. PM me if you wanna talk about it.

Hey brother. I few years ago I was on heavy antidepressants and opioids and was about 70lbs overweight. I started lifting a 12lh dumbbell because that’s about all I could manage at the time. You have to start somewhere, and even though it may seem insurmountable you can reach your goal if you just don’t quit on yourself. Another thing that was immensely healthful for me was/is intermittent fasting. One last thing, have your testosterone levels checked, and if low don’t be afraid of TRT, it’s been a lifesaver for me. Good luck on your journey OP you can fucking do this!

I get what you mean. I hate photos of me because I always look a fucking mess and makes me hate myself. I could start eating healthy or just not look in the mirror or let people take pictures of me.

i know how hard it is to lose weight but you can do it. i lost about 5 stone (70lbs). it was hard as fuck not gonna lie to you. i was doing like 10,000+ steps a day, cycling, and swimming. that was with me tracking every single thing i ate or drank. it was so draining i couldn't keep it up and ending up putting the weight back on. i know that's not want you want to hear but if you want to lose weight it requires a complete life style change. i probably lost my weight too quickly because i was literally obsessed with what i was eating and thought i had developed an eating disorder. once you start losing weight you want to keep going and going but it was getting to the point where i was simply not eating enough. i was trying to cut my diet down to 1000 calories a day which was not healthy at all and at one point i even tried doing 500.

losing weight is not something that happens quickly. don't make the same mistake i made by pushing yourself too hard. start off trying to excercise a little bit more. it can be as simple as doing basic stretches or walking an extra 10 minutes a day then gradually build it up. look at what you're eating and drinking and see if you can swap it out for something else. i used to drink full sugar drinks but moved to diet and then diluting juice. remember, even though you're trying to lose weight don't give up on the shitty food. trying to cut out junk food straight away isn't going to work. treat yourself everyone so often. not only is it good to reward yourself but trying to go cold turkey is just not easy.

if all you lose is 1lb then it's 1lb less so try see the positive in it. what i was doing was losing like say 2lbs and the next week i HAD to lose at least 2lbs again. if i lost 3lbs then it had to be at least 3lbs again. you can see how that spirals out of control. that's not good! if you're going to be weighing yourself then do it only once a week. your body weight will go up and down throughout the week. some weeks you might not lose anything or even put weight on but don't let it get you down. keep going and eventually it will come off.

Lost my best friend because of issues stemming from his weight problem. Blood clot at 28. Lots of people call me an asshole for being so hard about it, but really, obesity doesn’t only affect your life, it also affects those you leave behind.

Start slow, but get to it. I recommend swimming as it will be easier on your body until you can do more vigorous exercises

I'm gonna do this surgery and diet:

my doctor is helping with details.

M9jTdPD.jpg

I don't find myself ugly. Just so fat that I'm ashamed.
duuuude.

you might be packing some weight but you don't need a gastric band/balloon.

if you are seeing a doctor that's great but i think you're being a bit extreme here. If your doctor is telling you that you need a gastric balloon then I would maybe think about changing doctor.

With a positive mindset, simple exercises, and diet changes you could get rid of the weight without the need of surgery.

Oh! Oh...The dude...

Congrats on recognizing it as something to solve instead of going down the I'm perfect without trying route. Seems like a bunch of people are having success on Semaglutide.

My family has an ongoing problem with obesity and I had it too. I know you didn't ask for tips but I'm gonna post this anyway in case somebody else is reading.

This is what worked for me. Start by cutting the bread off. Reduce it, and then remove it from your diet. After that, find the carbos you have been eating and reduce them as much as possible. And then go from there. If you crave carbos too much, I found that hot tea, or coffee helps.

Other than that, get busy. If you can't work out do anything else. Get your mind going, learn a language, paint. You don't really to burn a lot of calories as you need to make sure you're doing something most of the time. Good luck

I have a friend that, while not a nutritionist, loves nutrition ever since she found out she has celiac disease.

I am a bit overweight, so she basically tells me if I want a successful diet, I've got to focus on foods that target my satiety. In other words, foods that are high on protein.

There is a lot of common sense when on a diet(If you put a LOT of food on a lunch, even if its healthy and low on carbs, you are going to get fat or at least not lose fat), and that since everyone strugles in its own way(Some crave more the ammount of food, others crave more sweet, others a specific kind of food), you need to be mindful of your own limits and adapt your diet to it. But there are a few guidelines that according to her anyone can follow:

Cut out industrilized food as much as you can. Most of those food not only are rich in carbs, but a lot of even the ones that market themselves as "healthy" has sugar on them, or some kind of sweetener. So cook your own food with fresh ingredients as often as possible.

When making up your plate, half of it needs to be a protein. They are usually low on calories, and they better sate you, give you a better feeling of satiety. The biggest challenge a fat person faces is to resist the urge to eat between meals, and protein helps on that front.

And finally: Understand yourself. If you like sweets, don't drop it 100%. You will likely fail. Instead, create rules and conditions that makes it okay to eat them, in ammounts that that still keeps you beneath the amount of calories needed to lose weight. Same thing for eating out, eating junk food, etc. You are fat for a reason, and its not likely because you have a strong will to withstand urges. So start small, and focus on understanding your weaknesses and thinking of solutions to circunvent them. As the diet goes on, and you gain confidence, so does your willpower growns, and then you can readapt your strategy.

I wish you good luck on your endevour.

Yeah I agree with this. Getting an operation like this seems wildly excessive, and you've been ill-advised. If you want to shrink your stomach organically, try fasting a few hours a day. So instead of having breakfast, just have a coffee if you drink that, then eat a small meal around 2-3pm. Eventually, you wont be able to handle large meals without feeling it, supplement that with a simple workout, you will shed weight.

1 Hour of Running everyday and cutting soda, sugar from your diet is all you need to lose weight efficiently. Unless you eat 6 pounds of food everyday, you dont even need to cut that many calories of your diet.

I've lost 33 pounds since i've started exercising, but i'm having a hard time winning muscles. Probably because i dont take protein but whatever.

Honestly I don't think surgery is the answer here you're not in that bad of shape. What I started doing is working out (mostly lifting). I did it slowly and progressively over time like working out 3 days a week (Monday Back Chest, Wednesday biceps triceps shoulders, Friday cardio). Then when it became a routine I would add a day like Saturday.

It's hard when you first start because your body is so sore but if you can get past the soreness it does eventually get better. What I did to help me keep going is I took before working out pictures and after 2 weeks I would take pictures again to see the Improvement.

I would recomend for you to start taking propecia as well, as you have a receding hairline

Agreed cutting soda out of your diet alone can lose you between 10 to 15 pounds in a year.

My only tip for you buddy is to go out and find clothes that fit you. Those shirts your wearing actually make you look worse. I see this a lot with bigger people. I understand it's mostly a comfort thing, but you'll look and feel better with shirts and pants that are the right size.

I never bought into obesity as being a "disease".
I've known 3 fat/obese people who were quick to blame their state on that disease while chugging down buckets of Ben & Jerry's sitting in front of the TV for 8 hours.

Closer to home I feel the same way about alcoholism. It's not a disease it's a choice. Yes during those 20 years I was a slave to the booze but I always had a choice.

Blaming a disease is easier than looking yourself in the mirror.

OP cut down on sodas, sugar and walk 30 minutes a day for a start.
You don't have to pump Iron like a madman on steroïds and break your back to feel better 😄

The best strategy ever is cardio + weights. Cardio since it burns fat, weights since the loss of muscle mass fucks you up as you age.

Imo, you're either focused on losing weight, or gaining muscle, if you do both at the same time you'll have muted results of either.

Losing fat = a small caloric deficit you can maintain, you'll lose mostly fat and some muscle. Gaining muscle = a small caloric surplus while lifting heavy, you'll gain muscle and a small amount of fat.

Do them in series until you're at your goal, i.e 3 months of cutting, 1 month at neutral, 3 months of bulking, etc.

I've been lifting for almost 10 years on and off and been in various shapes since, but what really took things off was accounting for macros and net calories in the last 3 years and sticking to this, either bulk or cut and not focus on both at the same time. Your testosterone also goes down on a cut.

Try intermittent fasting. It's very effective. Also start with light weights in the gym. A little goes a long way.

While I'm not overweight, I used intermittent fasting to go from 76kg to 67kg in 2 months.

Some years ago I dropped 12 kilograms in five weeks by reducing my calories to 1600-1800 per day, plus the below:

Lower your carb intake - any cravings go away in 3-7 days. This doesn't mean go full retard and avoid carbs, it means check your ingredients and try to stay below 50 grams per day, or less, which is easily doable when you drop bread and sugary food or drinks. Pale green bell peppers are a great bread substitute btw. Count your calories and remember you need protein sources. You can eat a ridiculous amount of good food as long as you pay attention to what you're doing.
Avoid cheat meals for a couple of weeks.
Do the 8 minute abs routine. The guy also has videos for 8 minute legs, arms, buns and stretching. My physiotherapist friend says the stretching routine is good to regain joint mobility and ease the initial muscle pain, but I didn't do that one. Alternate top and bottom exercises (my routine was buns-abs-legs-arms).

If you have lower back problems or just want some extra on top look into the Williams back exercises.
Also remember that your weight fluctuates, sometimes wildly, and that's normal. I recommend you take mirror selfies every day, front and profile. The progress is amusing to watch and will motivate you.

I had quite some success by going very Low carb (Keto / Carnivore). It forces you to avoid any kind of fattening carbs and switches your body to fat burning for energy... One large advantage is that you do NOT need to care too much calories and you are not hungry like with many other diets.

Currently I make the following diet: just meat, eggs and butter, nothing made from plants and nothing with major amount of carbs (like milk). Please note that if you use diabetes medicine you need to reduce it, which of course is a good thing.
I also combine it with "Intermittent Fasting" which for me means nothing but avoiding breakfast to reach about 16h of not eating and 8 hours of eating. Without the carbs you have no major insulin spikes and you do not get hungry the usual way, making this time restricted eating quite easy.
Watch the following video and follow it for lets say 90 days. And yes, the diet is healthy, even if it is pretty much the opposite of what we are teached about healthy food. But that is too long of a story for here.

Your health is far more important than your shame dude.

First of all, I would recommend a mental health professional to help you discover the true source of your eating habbits / addictions / comfort eating. Starting on the path to healing those is also key because it will help you understand why you turn to food and ultimately, cut the head off the snake. It can be painful and take time.

Secondly, and this for me personally, I would avoid the surgery. I would start with the free options that are a lot easier to get the ball rolling than crazy crash diets and operations.

1. Intermittent fasting. I would try this for 2-3 months eating whatever you want, but keeping your eating entirely within an 8 hour window during the day. The results on the body and metabolism are paramount. The best part of this diet is you can continue to enjoy whatever the fuck you like in slightly lesser amounts and still burn fat, simply by lengthening the duration of your fasting window. It doesn't matter when the 8 hours in the day is, but I found eating all my food for the day within the hours of 12pm lunch time nd 7L30 ish pm at night dinner with my wife and kid was quite managable. Skipping breakfast and drinking only water until 12, meant I was hungry as fuck at first, but after a week or so, I got into it like it was nothing. I was able to drop 60 pounds in 3 months with no changes to diet other than my fucking eating times. UNREAL as it sounds, it does work. It's the reason IF is like a cult. When you then supercharge the results by switching to healthier food choices in your window, the daily calories drop and the results get even better. Then add in exercise... you get the picture.

2. See number 1.

Dieting now too and it's actually super easy. You just don't overeat.
I also put away sugar drinks. Replaced it with dr pepper zero

Please don't do surgery. I know how it feels when you know you could be a great looking guy, but then you see yourself in the mirror or in photos. You brought that on by yourself but guess what, you can remove it yourself too. Take the long road.

Most people will recommend exercise. Exercise is great and all, and it may work for you or it may not, you need to find that out for yourself. I say this because I tried going to gym for weight loss, over the years I made memberships at multiple different gyms, and after around 2 months or something I just couldn't do it anymore. It was the same story each time. And that's okay. You want to lose weight, right? Losing weight has to do with your diet primarily. So don't beat yourself up if the gym solution doesn't work. Still, try it out. Because you might not be like me.

However, like I mentioned, diet is the number one thing you need to focus on. You already know the answer to this. Cut out junk food, cut out soda and any other sugary drinks, the whole 9 yards. Once you've done that, you need to find out a diet method that works for you. You need to experiment. Some will swear that keto is the solution, others will recommend something completely different.

I can only tell you what has worked for me: OMAD. One meal a day. It's a type of fasting. I started doing this this February when I was around 98 kgs at 178 cm height. When I saw my face from the side, like in a photo for example, I wanted to crawl in a hole. I don't know what it exactly was, but I guess I reached a limit one day (same like you I guess, because today is when you decided to make a thread about it) and I wanted to take this battle seriously and head-on. With this type of diet, I eat only once a day, which is dinner. The rest of the day literally nothing gets inside of my stomach except water. When I do eat, I make sure to count calories as well. Calculate your daily calorie intake that you need in order to maintain it, and try to go between 500 to 1000 calories below that. You'll be surprised how easy it is when you say no to a Fanta. You'll have a 500 calorie deficit right there. Another plus side to this diet is that you can eat whatever the fuck you want. I ate fries with small meatballs today and I'm still losing weight.

With this you can quite literally lose weight while sitting on your ass. I'm almost 4 months in and I'm 85kg now. People have noticed and told me that I lost weight. I sleep better, feel better, feel more confident. I can more easily say no to foods now than before.

Another important aspect is to keep yourself busy. For example, when you are in university, work or wherever, you are busy enough to do *something*. This is especially important at the beginning because this will form into a habit. I fully know that boredom is a big contributor to weight gain. You need this habit.

Keeping yourself busy, only eating once per day and counting your calories are the weapons you need and already technically have. Please give yourself time and take inspiration from your successes once they roll around because they will come.

I can really relate to your pain so please, don't give up.

Surgery seems excessive.
When you are that big (no offence) just dropping the junk food will lose like half the weight, if not more.
Try only drinking water for example instead of pops or juices. All those calories add up.

It's weird but in a couple years people probably won't even have conversations like this anymore. It seems like big pharma is pretty much going to get their way and Wegovy™ and Ozempic™ will pretty much lead to people just having no agency at all.

ANDS

DDP Yoga and walk a mile three days a week. Start small. If you try to change your ingrained habits overnight, you won't and then you'll get discouraged and decide "all this. . ." isn't worth the effort.

. . .also reduce your beer intake if you're a beer drinker. Nothing but carbs.

Happosai

Hold onto your panties
Gastric sleeves, bi-pass, tucks and even lap band surgery can go wrong. I'm talking post-op particularly. I was over 300 and after extreme discipline, motivation and a life-style change diet -- I've at at 148 lbs - 150 as my weight since 2017. Was it easy? No. Fast? No. I was nearly dying from a blood disorder and had to make that decision.

A few years prior I went in to look into lap band surgery and regardless of which way you do it...the doctor will tell you to:

- Start setting your lifetime diet of eating & drinking better now
- You'll need to discharge X-amount of weight before they'll even consider the surgery
- The surgery will only work as well as your own eating habits and control goes. If you stretch the now egg-sized stomach...this can lead to additional surgery or worse.
- Are you sure you really want to go through with this. It's permanent. Diet, exercise and lifestyle changes will accomplish the same for a fraction of the price

I took that last bullet point but nearly too late. Encouragement too OP. It does time, you must exercise while losing weight or there will be excess skin (fortunately this did not happen in my case and my exact weight in 2015 was 318 lbs more or less). Portion size, brand (natural if possible), cut out caffiene, cut out unnatural sugars and replace with portioned fruits (for your natural sugar intake), start small exercises before going into any major fitness plan (jogging, walking, sit ups, etc), if you smoke...stop, if you drink alcohol...quit and never make 'that one exception.' Dieting is no different than someone who's quitting cigs. If a smoker is quitting as a lifetime commitment, just one cigarette will bring back full scale and throw all effort down the drain. Same deal with a diet. If someone invites you to a birthday party, wedding or whatever and there's pizza, soda and snack foods; opt on bringing your own alternative. That one exception can easily destroy the diet.

One word which I believe someone already stated too: confidence.

If you lack self-esteem...that can be fixed. Trust the process with confidence. It will work if you do. The goal of a diet isn't to lose weight alone. It's to set how you plan to eat for the remainder of your life and it's worth it.
