Summary of key points from the Special Pre-Release Broadcast today:

  • CBU3 paid close attention to the internet reactions and feedback from the Liquid Flame footage all the way to the Demo.
  • They are taking performance issue feedback seriously and hope to have a patch out to address this. There will be a 300mb Day 1 Patch.
  • They are looking into patching an update that will allow things like Motion Blur toggled off, as well as provide more button layouts or key bindings.
  • NG+ mode that offers new challenge, including new bosses, new enemy placements, and new moves on existing bosses. NG+ and "Final Fantasy Mode" will be far more than just buffing enemy HP and DMG.
  • Prologue is skippable in NG+
  • The controversial Liquid Flame "cinematic dodge" that a lot of people hated, was the result of an equipable accessory the enhances your dodge. Completely optional
  • They feel confident you will enjoy the story if you enjoyed the demo. Demo was not "front loaded" in terms of story and engagement.

Full 4 hour video here if you care:

I personally don't feel the need for anything to be addressed based on my playing of the demo, despite some frame drops in the bigger set piece battles it's not a big deal overall.

But I find it a bit strange that they felt the need to release this and get all this feedback to come to these conclusions. I feel like internal play testing should have caught just about all of them without much trouble.

I want the fourth patch. Outside of any game breaking bugs, I’m more concerned with the stability of the performance mode. Doubt that’s smoothed out in a matter of days with a 300mb patch.

I like that they are listening to fans. that's awesome. not too opposed to day1 patches, games have a final production date and it make sense devs want to dispatch final touches. however, incomplete games delivering games broken or incomplete is inexcusable.

It's nice but how the hell did they think such terrible motion blur wouldn't bother people? Do they know they are shipping an interactive videogame, not a movie?

Great news, love to see that they're listening to their players 🎉
I know it doesn't necessarily mean it but I sure hope some of this goes to fixing the framerate issue

Had little interest in this until I played the demo. Sold me almost immediately. Love the darker, more serious tone and the game looks mint to boot
I was waiting for reviews to decide on buying this but all of this good word of mouth is too good to ignore!

Looks like I'll be picking this up next month. 👍

They just need to let me swap the buttons to put Dodge on Circle and Eikon Skill on R1 and we're good. Also I would like Lock-On on L3 and whatever useless thing they had on L3 launched into space.

And yes letting us remove Motion Blur would be amazing, god the Motion Blur looks horrible with this engine.

Optimizing performance and adding a toggle for motion blur. I was happy before, now I'm thrilled. This Friday can't come soon enough.

I didn't play the demo, I'm saving all of my first impressions on that day 1 gameplay!

I do think it makes sense to release this type of statement though, they want to be transparent

A 300MB day 1 update?!My isp doesn't allow me download that much, time to cancel the preorder I haven't make. But more seriously if most games had such a small day 1 update it would be so much better than what we currently experience.

They are doing everything right with this game, even improving in some areas where I think it was fine. SE and CBU3 are really showing their dedication to their fans - I hope this game does well.

Yep that motion blur is bad, happy to get a toggle for it. Performance mode seemed fine, I mean not sure what part of the demo people are having major issues with but regardless happy for more optimization.

how do people find these early copies? spam every store in their cities?
My local mom and pop is always breaking these street dates. Normally I just call and ask if they did / are, or sometimes if I am shopping they will let me know that "x hot item" is for sale already ahead of date.

Hope the monitor blur off comes within the first day or two. Would help me a lot.

I think the motion blur is more noticeable in the performance mode too but I may be smoking granola bars.

Really excited to dive in. I kept my hopes low, avoided most media, played the demo and was blown away (even though I planned to skip it until they said all save data Carrie’s over), and now my hopes expectations are high lol.

I always cringe at this stupidity. Why the heck you need feedback when you have much more performance telemetry than any player of the game
Because if they can get away with it, then they will; it's only if there's major pushback and the story gains traction that they'll actually put the resources to use, otherwise they might as well just keep it...

You mean a larger sized update would be an indication of wether the frame drops will be fixed or not?

I'd say it's a good sign, if anything. It could be just a few lines of instructions that adjusts the DRS to be a little more agressive in both modes. I can't imagine stuff like that resulting in a lot of data.

Aw shoot, nothing about Control Re mapping ?

The controls are feeling weird still for me.
they acknowledged the complaints. didn't promise anything concrete though.

definitely my biggest complaint though, hopefully they do something about it

There is a difference between soft metrics and hard metrics...
Oh My George Takai GIF

Day 1 patch used the proper way. Not rushing a game out and fixing it after it’s released. These guys are legit using the patch as a “address demo concerns” patch, and not an “oh the execs say get it out now even though it’s not finished” patch. This right here is why Squeenix still stands as one of the top developers in the industry to me. You can argue all you want….but you’re wrong 🤷‍♂️

This overseas shit here (assuming you aren’t in these areas). There was a study done several years ago about breaking street date releases with physical copies and it stated that it was typically in the middle eastern regions/countries that get their copies and break street dates. I’ve been searching for the research but I can’t seem to find it right at this moment,

Because console players used to eat the crap ports and games they did in the past. 3 Years ago this kind of performance mode was common in PS4 Pro/XBX, and people was happy getting a performance mode even if sucked. Now the most games have 60fps stable modes. They simply are reacting to something they though was not a problem.

His same team who made FF XIV, released a terrible port in PS5, where the PS4 Pro version with identical graphics was locked at 1440p/60fps in PS5 backwards, the port to PS4 was dropping at 30-40fps in some areas in 1080p mode with identical graphics. But was not a problem because people continued to playing the PS4 version in PS5 until they fixed 1.5 years after.
