It's ugly and not travel friendly at all but I bet actually using it will be a fantastic experience for PS5 owners.
It's not for travel and portability.
At least it's a hand held with good controller and big screen for once.
I think it's more like "sick in bed" and "my life sucks and wife won't let me use the tv" device.
I want to get it just for no reason. It's pretty cool. Shame no oled :(

The sticks look smaller but he says "identico", so I guess it's just the perspective

So what's the benefit of this over other devices that you can use to stream PS5 to?
I'd say:
  • Cheaper price
  • DualSense gamepad 1:1 ergonomy, quality and support plugged to the screen
  • Big and 16:9 display
  • PS Link support to, in addition to have the headset/earbuds connected to the console, also have them connected them at the same time than the phone or something else via BT
  • We'll have to see if it features wifi6 (which with a wifi router would offer better streaming) or if it also features a decompression chip like the PS4 & PS5 to improve streaming
  • I never tried to make Remote Play from a PS5 using a DualSense in a PC or phone, but unlike to streaming to a Steamdeck or similar it will feature the Dualsense features
It's ugly and not travel friendly at all but I bet actually using it will be a fantastic experience for PS5 owners.
Yes, like PSVR2 or DualSense Edge it's a PS5 accesory so it isn't designed to use it during travels. It's to use it at home, relatively close to your console.

Any reviews yet? My wallet is ready but I already use the backbone device. If Portal is more responsive and performative then I am all in.

Preparing to be underwhelmed...

Some impressions he mentions in the video:
  • The packaging is very Sony-ish
  • Feels bigger than expected even if being used to Razer stuff in a smartphone and so on
  • Comparable size to Steamdeck but feels less bulky
  • The screen has touchscreen in the left and right side to mimic the DualSense's touchpad feature
  • Sony doesn't allow them to turn the device on for this video
  • The weight suprised him, a bit more than Dual Sense but like half of Rog Ally and similar
  • The weight feels comfortable enough to play a few hours in a row
  • View angles are good
  • Analogs may be a bit softer than the DualSense ones but he says he may be wrong
  • There's a button to sync PS Link devices
  • There's an audio jack for headsets

I hope the packaging and store clerks really makes sure the buyers understand you need a PS5 as well because otherwise there might be a lot of sad kids come christmas eve

It's mentioned in the black panel of the box, which I'd say isn't big and clear enough

Well it has "Remote Player" and "PS5 required" in the front cover. But that won't stop some I guess.
Personally, for that price point, the latency must be noticeably better than the last time I used Remote Play (though that was on PS4) AND the swapping between the Portal and the console to be quite seamless like Switch going from Docked to Undocked.
If not I can wait for Portal 2, since that could have some pretty easy pickings for improvement (OLED, better battery, swappable sticks like the Edge)

So, I saw that you can use it through wifi, let’s say at work and all you have to do is having the PS5 on and I’ll be able to play at work (both devices on wifi) without having the PS5 with me, Yay or Nay?

I don't understand these posts.
You got a real nice screen and real fully functional controller.... and all you say is ewww ?
Like, are you going on a date with this thing? I don't get it. It looks cool as fuck
The major thing is it's literally a DualSense controller, you can wrap your fingers around it, all these other devices like Steam Deck aren't anywhere near as comfortable

I swear to god I want to buy this, I'm not even joking. Have I been Jimboed?
I do too. But only because my 3-year-old and gf hog the damn TV. I got the Sony 65" OLED and can't even use it.

Though the specs on this are terrible for the price. I'm going to wait for V2 with an OLED screen. $200 for a PS5 Controller and a 10" LCD screen is not worth it. All it does is RDP into the PS5 and fuck all else. I imagine the long-term goal and why Sony is investing so much into PS+ and Cloud is that this will eventually be used for Cloud Gaming on the go and not just a PS5 at-home-emulator. I hope...

Probably gonna be the most comfortable "portable" device out there.

Must save them quite a lot in terms of manufacturing to be able to reuse Dualsense parts.

Of course catlady likes this post 😉

Anyway, in case you were legitimately wondering :

- DS controls on Android are completely borked , you have google to thank for that, it's literally unplayable since square is X, O is triangle, Touchpad doesn't work, pressing on the bumpers also activates the camera/right stick for some reason and so on so forth.
Also : good luck even trying it on cheaper devices that have both the wi-fi and BT chip on the same SOC.

- You have to sync the DS each and every time you want to play and then re-sync it to your PS5 which can be done only with the original, PS5 provided USB cable, it's a friggin' ball-ache.

- in the case that you have a premium, 800-900-1000+ Eurodollar Android device that doesn't have the controls all fucked up (Samsung s23, Pixel etc) haptics don't work.
when I say "premium" devices I mean "commercially successful" ones - you can have the latest 1000 Eurodollar OnePlus for example and the button configuration will still be all.kinds.of fucked up/unplayable.

- You can use the Dualshock 4 and Xbox controllers but you can't play PS5 games due to the touchpad not getting recognized.

- Charging your phone 2-3 times a day is fun - not.

- On apple devices Remote play works well (even the haptics) but Apple devices are not cheap.

- Portable PCs/handhelds cost more than the portal, don't have haptics and nice, "proper" analogues and triggers.

- Razer kishi- like phone holders/joypad combo devices feel like shit (mushy buttons, small analogue sticks), cost 100 Eurodollars...100 Eurodollars for 3.pieces of plastic out together.

With 200 Eurodollars that the portal costs you can have the best of both worlds - proper streaming AND proper, PS5-like controls , plus, you can have the usual GAF green zealots getting triggered so that's always a plus 😁

PS : This, with a good connection is gonna surprise many users , Remote play nowadays is light years ahead of what it used to be a couple of years ago - tried it on a 1000 Eurodollar wi-fi compatible device and God damn, the input lag is almost 1:1 compared to native play, I was actually surprised, the 1080p/60fps streaming is also ahead of whatever the fook MS is streaming at.
Let.me.put it this way : if I could take my Sammy tab s9+ back I would and I'd take the PS portal instead (for 200 buckaroos), it's that motherfucking good/smooth.
The macroblocking - using my home network - while there, is minimal and almost non-visible even on a 12.4.inch screen and it's gonna look even better on the portal's smaller, 8-inch one.

The only downside is it's form factor which doesn't make it very portable, then again, there are already carrying cases on Amazon for 20 bucks so that should take care.of that.

It also "plays" physical games, checkmate atheists.
