Whatever happened to Michael Pachter?

West Texas CEO

GAF's Nicest Lunch Thief
One thing that struck me tonight while eating lunch and something I have thought for a while is why did Pachter decline as a gaming analyst so markedly?

If he was 80% the gaming analyst he was in the 2000s and early GAF days he would have been the best analysist on the Earth.

He has been a shadow of his former self for a good few years now.

So what's the reason behind Pachter's decline as an analyst?

What are you basing his decline on? Are you actually reading his reports?

Titanic was called the Ship of Dreams, and it was. It really was.
He was basically a broken clock. He was correct once in a while, but not enough to maintain credibility.

My fantasy is that my girlfriend was actually a young high school girl.
Is it lunch if you eat it at night?

"Michael Pachter is a Managing Director at Wedbush Securities, providing coverage of the Entertainment Software, Entertainment Retail, Social Internet, E-Commerce, and Movies & Entertainment sectors for the last 20 years. He also hosts one of the most significant and highly-regarded industry events during the annual E3 conference."

If that's what decline looks like I'd like to have some.

He used to be way more influential here on the forums.
But now, I never see anyone talking about his predictions anymore....
What gives?
The public stuff he did was just a side gig, it was never his main actual job.

I believe he got attention from having a show on Gametrailers, to talk about the industry for them. He still continues his show for a YouTube channel Shane Satterfield started, but that channel isn't popular

So in short, he gets quoted on forums less because the show he does as a side gig is now on a smaller platform. It has nothing to do with the quality of his actual analyst work.

Didn't he pretty much nail the outcome of the ABK buy out? After being pretty much laughed at, at the time? I know broken clock and all that etc etc

Nah….he didn’t. He was one of those claiming Microsoft would just ignore the UK and sell Activision games everywhere but there. He was right in the outcome but not in how MS would get it done. No one predicted MS would sell off ABK streaming to another company.

He's really old. He was never good at predicting anything to begin with, he just had a really loud mouth and made shock-value comments that got media attention. Not having Geoff Keighley's show to piggyback on with his segment was how he made his name in gaming circles, (and also annoyed the shit out of Reggie and others with his silly comments).

Without that dedicated airtime and making loudmouth comments, he's retreated back into just being a regular old dude. It's really not a super interesting story what happened to him, nor I would argue was he ever actually an interesting figure in gaming to begin with. He was like the Donald Trump of gaming. Extreme loudmouth, nothing actually productive to say, and very often wrong about nearly everything. 🤷‍♂️.

As we've seen for years now, being really loud with shocking statements gets you a lot of attention. But just because you can, doesn't mean you should. And if you haven't figured it out by now, the loudest people usually have the least to say.

One year I remember him saying Nintendo was fine on the console side with the new Wii U and super competitive on console, but completely toast on the handheld side with 3DS because of PS VIta & mobile. Well the Wii U was just about to launch and boy it is like literally the exact opposite thing that happened. 3DS is literally what carried Nintendo financially for four years while they had a state of emergency inside the walls of Nintendo from 2014-2016 to create the Switch and have strong launch year titles in 2017.

If you flipped a coin you'd have better success rate than Pachter. He hasn't declined, he's always been an incompetent abject fraud and always will be.

God-tier troll in a turbulent time where the console wars were at an all-time high. The anti-Nostradamus.

Hope he's doing well.

Probably bankrupted. Who would want advice from someone who is wrong all the times specifically when it involves money?

I dont know if it was Pachter or not. But I remember a tweet where some guy said there's no way MS is buying EA, T2, Activision etc....

And then MS bought Activision a couple months later.
