Phil Spencer: announcement this week

If the insider reports are anything to go by, Bethesda as a company are doing everything they can to convince Microsoft to let them release on other platforms, the exclusivity is seriously damaging their brand from a financial point of view. We've already had a number of podcasts with insider knowledge mention this in the past week
Sounds like quite a lot is still undecided about exactly which games will be ported then.

No you don't. The community does that.

It's like saying " I love waffles"
Someone might spin it as "So you hate pancakes?" <- Community

That's a different subject. Telling what IS to come isn't the same as generating speculation. You just took some doubt away and gave clarity.
It's the tinfoil hat audience that creates speculation.
That's what I'm saying! That MS should just talk about what IS coming.

If they specifically say "Starfield and Perfect Dark are not coming" then the community will speculate why they didnt say that about Hellblade 2, Indiana Jones etc.

Honestly, I think it's no exaggeration that the entire video game industry is holding their breath right now, in respect to what is going to come out of this podcast.

Myself, it's happening at 8pm UK time, so I'll be checking out the fallout around 10pm, since I'll be busy doing other stuff during the broadcast :)

This on YouTube yeah? So the more I think about this the more I think it's going to focus more on the back catalogue than on newer titles. Obviously they'll do that as well but for the bigger Xbox titles Halo, Gears, Forza etc I think they'll bring the MCC but not Infinite (although they may) but not a future Halo game. Gears we've been hearing about remakes of the first 3 games and I think that would be good for other platforms but I think a new Gears would remain exclusive. Similar scenario with Forza but this is more me theorising than anything else.

Lastly a change in how they handle day 1 first party on Gamepass, with certain bigger AAA titles releasing within a 3 month window rather than being day 1 would certainly increase sales while not pissing off the subscribers too much.

I can hear the music in this picture!!!

All sorts of memories coming back. This came out around the same time of Medal of Honor Allied Assault. Played that and watched this.
Man that was 1 hell of a time!!!

Yeah, I really loved everything WW2 at the time.

Band of Brothers is one of the greatest series ever created.

This is gonna be a total nothing burger.
COD and minecraft, 2 of the biggest games in the world are already multi platform. Everything else is small fry in comparison 🤷‍♂️
For player base?, correct, for games that are iconic to Xbox?, nope, Halo, Forza, Gears, even Flight Sim are bigger. Also, those two you mentioned were never exclusive anyway so never thought of in that way.

My predictions for today

Hi-Fi Rush and Pentiment drop onto PS store and Nintendo store today.

Suprise drops of Halo MCC, Halo Infinite and Forza on Playstation store also tonight.

Confirms more titles will be coming to PS5 and "Nintendo Systems" this year.

Microsoft also announce their Xbox handheld. 15 inch OLED screen, has the power of a Series S and with a 8 hour battery life. Called the Xbox Mini.

Releases end of 2025 for £200.

3 month would be pointless. 6 month would make more sense financially.

15 inch? You'll need industrial lifting equipment to hold that.

Its a podcast, so the most youll get is non descriptive waffling about strategies and market share.

I doubt there will be any actual announcements.

They will waffle on for 2 hours about utter nonsense, then the next day well get a post by Bethesda that hifi rush is coming to PS5.

Anyone expecting anything major or revolutionary is going to be disappointed, I honestly wouldn't even listen to it.

They havent decided on an overall strategy to pin themselves on, they just have a philosophy and thats what they will waffle on about with a bunch of on the fence statements.

"We are interested in an ecosystem so are seeing xbox as a multi-platform brand, we already do that with game pass on PC and handhelds and well continue to do that. Weve also made a commitment to releasing big games like COD on multiple platforms and nothing will change there, anything else will be a case by case basis"

So youll get just more of the same but maybe reaffirmed and it will serve to be the soft launch of multiplatform releases but not really a sea shift like others have said.

Today's podcast is basically a massive PR exercise to assure and console the rabid Xbox fanboys, that all the leaks they have been hearing and reading about in the past fortnight aren't exactly true, and things aren't as bad as they have been made to believe. It is a carefully crafted piece for that particular audience, not so much to agnostic multi-platform folks. So temper your expectations. There won't be Starfield, Indiana Jones, or Blade announcements for PS5. The narrative will be centered around on some specific titles curated for other platforms as an attempt to reach a wider audience, while faffing about how critical exclusives are to Xbox ecosystem. And, this will all be packed to sell on the "look, how awesome things are happening at Xbox" with announcement of ABK games dropping on GamePass in near future.

Oh, and they are also announcing they are working on next-gen Xbox. Have fun.

Doubt anything shadow drops. We'd probably have metadata on those games by how sloppy Microsoft is. They didn't originally plan to speak on this today. So Hi-Fi Rush and Sea of Thieves will probably drop in March or April and get some room from Persona 3 and FF7.

They won't discuss Halo or Gears either because they want to calm people down. They want the Xbox community to say, it's only HiFi Rush and Sea of Thieves. Microsoft will boil the pot when it comes to Halo Infinite and maybe Starfield by Christmas.

Master Chief Collection might be a summer drop. I think you release that before Infinite or combo them together for like 100.

50/50 on if they make any positive hardware announcements to assuage fears of Xbox getting out of hardware.

Yeah that or 'you've all let us down not buying any games or consoles so this is what we've been forced to do. If you don't like it take a look in the mirror'

Nobody on that podcast is going to be using the word PlayStation. It's going to be some when-we-play-together-we-all-win kumbaya guff to sugar-coat and downplay the appearance of 1st party titles in places we're not used to seeing them without actually stating specifics, and there won't be any big game titles mentioned just the few smaller ones we know that are close. If you're looking for vapid reassurances as a few sad-eyed realities of business flutter into the ether, then bring on the shoulder-shrugs as this will be a treat, but with enough sprinkles of open-ended, Phil's-shelf-tier, side-of-the-mouth nods and winks to see out a year of fanciful hopes and dreams the more excitable super-fans indulge in.

There's no tangible long-term future of xbox hardware bombshells dropping... announcing an early leap to an new generation, nah... a fanciful handheld series s within 2 years that's as impractical as it is unnecessary, lol no... none of this stuff is happening today or any time soon. The best we'll get is a reassuring "we're working on the next generation of hardware" as they spin to to downplay the demise of their dedicated console hardware division and hint at what series of Surface-created xboxen might offer. The future of xbox hardware is no doubt going to be more in the minimal/portable/immediate vein and every chance future "xbox" hardware ends up technically less powerful than what we have today with the series x, but bolstered by tech that extracts more bang for buck in a cheaper form factor - just a different paradigm than the kinds of consoles we're used to given the realities of the kinds of games people actually play, how they consume and the increasingly lacking justification for a never-ending quest for MOAR POWA that never seems to pay off and offers diminishing returns every gen that passes.

I'd love to see Sarah justify every screen as an xbox to the faithful in a way that isn't either laugh- or gag-inducing, do that and you've earned Phil's job, he can do one.

I suspect the usual crowd already have their posts on social media saved in drafts, ready to go once the podcast airs

“Plastic box warriors “
“Console war”
“They need to let go”
“This was always the plan”
“Sony too”

The levels of gaslighting is going to be disgusting. I hope some Xbox fans see through it all.
