• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

If you're Sony boss what would you do with Fairgame$?

WoW had 12m active subs at its peak, im pretty sure only fortnite can compete with its success currently, and thankfully its starting to slow down/bring less profits :messenger_smiling_hearts:
The Model T sold 15 million. It's still a piece if **** car by todays standards.

The forum is moving at a rate of three threads about Sony per day.

Someone should really look into this and reflect on it.

Especially these crappy threads.

What's wrong with this thread? it's a genuine question and concern, We've heard pretty much nothing during the whole development cycle so far other than the famed exiteer Jade Raymond exits another project.

Personally I'd have shut the studio down when Raymond left (shock) and cancelled any other gaas bullshit, Fired Hulst who is complete clown shoes and is taking PlayStation in a really shitty direction that gamers do not want especially PlayStation gamers.

I would bring Sony HQ back to Japan where it belongs as these bozos who are in charge this gen are simply crazy they've been very lucky Xbox division has been in cuckoo land.

Sony have had ample opportunity to develop and release many more really good single player games that they're great at this past 5 years but instead they've chased the gaas market which they have failed miserably and shut down studios left and right.

Cancel. It has no chance.
DEI grifters stole another 300m from Sony and that's all there is to it.

To a child, all wine taste like vinegar. Develop your pallet and learm to embrace all of gamings beauty.
Oh I love this. <3

I always eat ketchup and order my steak well done.

I'm old my bro. Real old.

I just don't think it's safe eating all that raw blood. I'm like Peter Pan a boy forever, never grow up! My pallet is just the way it is. That's why I can't love GAAS, because I'm a kid at heart and I like to win.

Bring things back full circle to the PS360 times. Insert a story/campaign for all of their multiplayer titles, like they used to insert multiplayer modes for all of their narrative titles.

Marathon is incredibly good and Fairgame$ looks promising.

Neither game is stopping you from playing some actual Sony garbage like The Last of Us for the 15th time.

If they can't turn this into a fully reworked single-player experience, basically ditching the design and even the name, then I'd change the aesthetic to something more grounded and turn it into a SOCOM-style game. Or make it a DLC for Helldivers 2. But if there's a risk of it dragging everything down, I'd spin it off as a standalone free multiplayer tied to The Last of Us.

But honestly, we all know the best option, cancel it. The problem is, that should've happened a long time ago. If it's already too far along, it's just gonna be another huge loss.

I would cancel it, shut down Haven, and take the tax write-off.

It's cleaner than killing the game post-launch and you would have a single bad news cycle instead of months of embarrassment like with Concord.

For the record, I think Sony made the right call by sticking with Marathon, even if the game ultimately gets shut down after a few months, because it was worth gambling on Bungie's pedigree, but sticking with Fairgames would just be pure sunk costs at this point.

It's also a bit silly to want to cancel it after NOT SEEING AN OUNCE OF GAMEPLAY.
I've been gaming for more than 30 years, when I see this kind of reveal

I know EVERYTHING I need to know about this game.

Maybe casual people, less familiar with video games (like you) need 50 minutes of gameplay and 6 beta tests to know if they like a game, but here in a gaming enthusiast forum I'm sure a lot of players can look at the trailer and decide if it's for them or not.

Then those convinced by that trailer needs to be convinced by the gameplay, that is another talk. But you do realize Sony published this trailer to hype the community right? And the response has been... well I'll let you judge:

Turns out that Fairgames is following the same path as Marathon: a game designed for an audience that doesn't exist or at least not large enough to be viable.
This also reminds me of Hyenas, the cancelled game by Sega/Creative Assembly. What a total shitshow.

No joke, no sass, nothing.

Who is legitmately and sincerely excited for this game and more importantly...

I really want to know.

Your PvP pallet is underdeveloped.
How do you know? Stop making flimsy assumptions.

Unless you can prove me wrong, I don't think your level of analysis differs much from "It's PvP so it's bad".
Again I've been gaming for a while now. But more importantly why would I need to prove anything to you lmao. I love a good PvP game, I've been playing Tarkov for YEARS for this exact reason :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I knew extraction shooters before you even got a PS5, give me a break.

PvP has historically been based around quick reflexes and superior aim skill. From Counter Strike to Halo to Apex Legends. Outcome has mostly been dependent on the mouse / right thumb stick.

We're starting to crest into a new era where quick twitch reflexes are subdued in favor of more interesting tools. We saw it in ARC Raiders where you can save yourself by telling your opponent a joke. You can progress by stealthing past opponents or manipulating ARC to do your bidding.

Fairgames has a good chance (not guaranteed) to explore the play space outside of thumbskill and quick reflexes. If this is the case, it'll be relatively fresh / unexplored territory.

Feels like a game made for a generation that doesn't give a 💩about it. It doesn't appeal to the hardcore because it's another micro-dose of GaaS these execs keep getting high on. I'd honestly scrap it. Good idea to make it Dick Tracy-style, but I don't think it's going to have a high player count.

IMHO it was stupid. It'll bankrupt Sony. It makes Sony look like watchers and followers rather than industry leaders. As a gamer, it looks boring and it isn't a reason to own a PlayStation console.

  • Go the Borderlands route and redesign it. Start over with a new style and cast!
Hints for the redesing:

  • Don't start with an angry black woman and emogy helmets being the first thing we see on the trailer. MY GOD everything was pretentious on that Trailer!
  • Drop the fake hackery shit. Real hackers are socially awkward out of shape dudes. Emphasis on dudes. Show an athletic action chick as a hacker and you've lost the audience.
  • Make a faction of thieves looking like cartoonishly mad, hevylly implying that they take the "eat the rich" slogan to heart.
  • Don't treat the thieves like the good guys. Embrace the cringe reception and have many sound like stupid rebellious teenagers who are in only "to save the pandas" or something.
  • Think of a stupid meme lines to have the community talking fun about it while playing. Like: While using the "Eat the Ritch" slogan, but then have droped lines "I'm still digesting the preveus Ritch I ate" or "We are running our of Ritch. We better go get some" or "That Rich I ate didn't agree with my stomach"...
  • Don't copy designes done in the genre! Don't use the Overwatch design if you go cartoony.

  • Make a good single player story! Advertised 80% that single player story. If it doesn't have a single player, given the recent tendencies, people will fear buying it as the plug will be pulled in weeks!
Hints for Single player:
  • Perhaps go with the asynchronous multiplater route, with the big heists being multyplayer.
  • Go the hitman route and play with scouting and hiding in plain sight.
  • Make good a good randomizer. A must for all PVEs.

Release it in early access and see if people like it. Then refund if it bombs and shut it down.

I dont like cancelling things devs have poured in years of their lives into. They cant put it on their resume. Cant show it off due to NDA. It's shitty. Just release a beta or something and gauge the reception.
Do you think devs put "Concord" on their resumes? Honest question, maybe they do.

While I don't want to agree with the dude who hails every single GAAS title as the next coming of god ultimately this.

We haven't seen fucking shit so people are making assumptions based off of a short CGI trailer.

5 years ago, the prevailing wisdom was that CGI trailers were useless because they didn't show gameplay.

Now CGI trailers are enough to judge games on because of "the punchers chance".

Release it.
Make a "Fairgame$ shuts down in X days" bet on Polymarket.
Put all my money on the option that will give the biggest payout, then shut it down on that day.
Lmfao, wouldn't that count as insider betting? Now I really wonder if there will be actual betting on outcome of Live Service games.

Seems like a Fair Game though to make some $$$$.

Yep. When it's something everybody wants to hate like you know a Sony GAAS title a short CGI trailer is enough for people.

People love to pick and choose when rules apply.

Cancel it, get the team to join the former Factions 2 Team, + mod team and work on that.

If the game is ready to launch in 3 months sure, let them release Fairgames and then move to Factions 2 lol. Might aswell use that team to make Factions 2 happen with people who have/are working on it

Before Marathon shit the bed? I would say cancel it.

Now…..idk….Sony is just living up to the stereotype from the past of them being horrible at multiplayer games.

They need to stick to single player.

At this point just let fairgames launch for free on ps+.

Needs a budget of 750 million dollars to guarantee that it will be a failure. For this advice I demand a CEO salary of 1 million dollars which can be added to the budget of fairgame dollar sign the game.

Jade Raymond leaving Haven Studios is a sign this shit should be cancelled. She has the uncanny ability to bail before shit hits the fan with her reputation mostly untarnished.

Release it on PS5 only, f2p, forcefully install it on everybody's PS5, no ccu charts, claim its a success being played by millions, flip off the people hating on it for extra measure.

Make sure the game has plenty of single player and pve co op content or else it's fucked.

Nah I don't think her rep can shake this.

It was her studio and she left (which is the executive form of she was fired w/ the veneer of resignation).

She originated this and fucked it all up.

I think other publishers will think long and hard before giving her another studio again.

The feedback on it has been dismal. It was similar with Concord. In order to save money and prevent yet another failed game launch, Sony should just cancel it.

Just release it and see what happens.

A lot of time and money has been used, it should at least get to see the light of day, even if only a few buy it.
