It's still there actually"Journalist" lol; isn't he the same idiot who posted on twitter something about series S hardware to be better compared the ps5 and when was caught in the fault made disappear such post?

Can't even criticize Tom over the Sarah Bond hitpiece article. And I thought the purple place was supposed to be progressive? Oh and look who else showed up early in their thread:

The GM who sold the forum to corporate interests and didn't even bother telling their mods or admin. Or pay them, for that matter.
What great people![]()
At least she has direction. The best decision she can do is bring back exclusive which made OG xbox and Xbox 360 competitive especially with MS has allot of great IP. Its not about brute force of power of hardware anymore, but more on games and optimization and technic.
It's still there actually
Oh, so that's how they operate over there? They kill open discussion when one of their "verified" members of the media feels uncomfortable? WOW!!!!
He never said the Series S was as powerful as the PS5.
He said it was MORE powerful.
From what I can recall:I never understood why people have such a problem with that tweet. He's saying it about the CPU.
Not sure how that tweet has since been twisted into implying that he said the Series S will outperform PS5 in general.
![]()
To be fair, he said the CPU was more powerful, not the overall machine. I'm not a tech guy, but my understanding is that he was technically correct about that.
I'm not defending Tom Warren, just trying to point out what he actually said.
edit: I see Adam made the same point just before me.
It's the narrative behind it. That tweet was followed by articles explaining how PS5 would actually compete with the Series S.I never understood why people have such a problem with that tweet. He's saying it about the CPU.

The collective outrage over false recollections is such a fascinating thing.

Except he's wrong about that too. He simply didn't and probably still doesn't understand how the CPU in the PS5 works.
Her expression is one of the scary things that aren't supposed to be scary.
I think the reach and engagement of those Microsoft PR articles back in Phil's time, and the way they seemed to have an impact on the internet, were due to the "Xbox ambassadors" echoing the article.Nothing new, just shilling as expected.
The good news is, due to these outlets consistent lack of truthfulness, they're trending towards extinction. So puff pieces around Xbox leadership are going to become rare.
Ok sure, but that's not different than articles out right now about how Switch 2 compares with PS5/Series X either, lol.
It's a fascination with seeing how a weaker console compares to a stronger one. I don't recall any specific Verge articles saying that the Series S is outperforming PS5, over things other then the value prospect etc for the launch prices.
That Tom Warren tweet has become the The Berenstain Bears mandela effect of gaming.
No, you simply aren't understanding. And you are purposefully not paying attention. You were here on GAF back then. You know the context!!! But since you don't want to be honest now, lets remind you. The context is people didn't understand Mark Cerny's approach to the PS5's Power Profile, because it was so different. Tom Warren took advantage of that.
- Most consoles use a fixed-frequency, and variable power. CPU runs at a fixed clock, GPU runs at a fixed clock
- PS5 changed that and uses Fixed Power, but variable frequency. The total SoC's power budget is fixed, but the frequency of the chip is allowed to vary\change.
Tom Warren is smart enough to understand that Sony were going in a different direction, but didn't want to understand "HOW" it works. Hence that stupid tweet of his. Because he's foundation is to always favor Xbox for "X" reasons.

IIRC it wasn't even technically correct because the higher speed was without simultaneous multi threading, with SMT enabled it's 0.1 GHz below the PS5 CPU frequency (the only spec they've given is with SMT enabled) but that difference is probably negligble anyway due to the whole variable clock+power shift thing. To be fair, he said the CPU was more powerful, not the overall machine. I'm not a tech guy, but my understanding is that he was technically correct about that.
Being specific is misdirection? It's misdirection, but you probably already know that.
Just like he probably knows that most people would not have a clue as to what it means besides the word 'faster'.
"Tom Warren took advantage of that"
I swear some of you guys are still arguing over this like it's the battle of iwojima
He's simply stating the factual max theoretical caps for the respective CPU's. The PS5 CPU is capped at 3.5ghz, the Series S and X are a little bit higher than that, disabling SMT makes the gap a bit more higher than that.
We've all seen the output over the last 6~ years, the Series S did not outperform the PS5, that's not what Tom even said in the first place.
Yes, because he is trying to imply that the S is faster, even though it's only related to the CPU. It's clever messaging.Being specific is misdirection?
Oh like the max output of the ps5 is 10.3tf/3.6gz "Most of the time" isnt?Yes, because he is trying to imply that the S is faster, even though it's only related to the CPU. It's clever messaging.
Yep. It the same thing.Oh like the max output of the ps5 is 10.3tf/3.6gz "Most of the time" isnt?
So less specifics and more generalization is better and less misleading?Yep.
Edited my post at the same time you posted. You will see I meant it is the same misdirection. So less specifics and more generalization is better and less misleading?

I think the confusion is that yes the X and S have both 3.6gz, but 3.6 is X smt but 3.8 single and 3.4 is S smt but 3.6 single. There isnt a direct 1:1 comparison between the PS5 and the series S due to workload and power delivery fluxuations for the CPU.NO......HE'S WRONG!!! The fact that you want to kwebble with what is technically wrong or not is the issue that Tom Warren puts you in. Just having a higher frequency doesn't directly mean it's "better" or "faster". I'm 1,000% sure you know this though.
So it's odd that you are pretending at this moment. For what? For who? Are you related to Tom or something? Do you two know each other?
I honestly think he saw 3.6 on both spec sheets and ran with it. I cant do anymore than speculate with that. What reason do YOU personally believe Tom said that about the CPUs? What do you think he was trying to accomplish? What do knowledge\thought do YOU believe he wanted the reader of that tweet to walk away with?

Yes, of course no one said that.Warren posted a fact sheet point about CPU. As
Topher pointed out, it's just one small thing out of the many. Tom fished for engagement and he got it in spades.
But the wording of that tweet has since been twisted so wildly over the years its kinda ridiculously funny.

And that's my point thatadamsapple is avoiding here and why people still to this day call him out.
Your initial reply was perfect. No need to change it lol. And I'm good, no need for me to take it down a notch. I personally have trigger against people that try to purposely misinform people. It's a pet peeve of mine, honestly. And it's not fair when people take advantage of others, because they know how to manipulate and BS.
Thank you.

My second response was to you. I was typing that before I saw you even address me if you look at the quoted item. The edit was changing to to do
But ok I guess if you all want to get mad about it that's fine to. I do t see how this changes really anything now. That was ~ 6 years ago
There was lot of speculation back then, that lower cpu load on Series S could be beneficial.Because it is a useless flex to isolate the CPU like that. It's just engagement farming either way. He got the attention that he wanted.
Bullshit. So far, she has the "send bread crumbs to the shills and have them tell people what they want to hear" Microsoft PR code.At least she has direction. The best decision she can do is bring back exclusive which made OG xbox and Xbox 360 competitive especially with MS has allot of great IP. None of the games push any of the systems these days so turned out meaningless. Just like a lot of customisation in the systems.
