Why does Sony make female characters uglier in their games?

Whats dumb as hell is thinking that ^ looks anything like this

HusUqaso1tMdqlLs.jpg

Not only are you a dum dum you also blind as hell lmao

She looks just like the actress. My complaint is that they made her wear pants one minute in the trailer instead of showing her sexy legs throughout the entire game :messenger_unamused:

Some people trying to justify the DEI "uglyfication" with a "she is not wearing make up" is something else… Sony Is obviously following an agenda, even the sword have a fucking purple ribbon 🤣🤣🤣.

No clue man, and I can't take anyone serious that can say that bottom character looks anything like the actual model.. It's not even close.
You're unironically better off having this conversation with a tadpole dude. The tadpole would actually engage in better faith than the progressive male feminists lurking here. Literal photo evidence in front of their fucking faces, and dipshits will act stupid till the end of time and keep giving the same tired, cliched, and retarded excuses:

No makeup
Poor technology
Bad lighting

Meanwhile this is what Asian developed female characters look like with access to the same tech:

I'm sure the usual suspects aka lurking male allies will stumble over themselves like clowns with some stupid fucking excuses as to why Japanese, Chinese, and South Korean devs just magically make the women look like women and not men unlike Western devs.

Bonus points if they regurgitate these stupid Reddit catchphrases:
Gooner
Incel
Never been with a woman
Touch grass

I find the people screaming 'there's an agenda' just as obnoxious as the agenda driven people. Both sides are too extreme and too dumb nowadays.

Why do they make women look uglier? Is this on purpose?
They aren't making her uglier, it's just the way the detail and the animation come across digitally. The quality is really good she just doesn't look airbrushed and edited like crazy the way she would in a professional photo. It doesn't help that whenever these kinds of threads come up people take shots from a video where the face in the middle transitioning from one animation to the other while using real life shots where the person is smiling and looking at the camera and had some touching up done after.

First of all, you're way too heated about this topic lmao

Second of all, these characters are wearing full face makeup, or are highly stylized to resemble full face makeup. Which is fine. Ada in particular is an amazingly designed character. But also not every game needs to look like that. It's not feminist propaganda to say that a woman without makeup still looks like a woman lol

And yes some games just have ugly/bad looking characters. Star Wars Outlaws for example. But I chalk that up to Ubisoft incompetence more than anything.

Oh please man anything but pulling out the dum dum
Dude I like you and your posts on GAF generally. You're usually pretty reasonable and on point with stuff. Do you legitimately think the character model is the problem here?

I feel like there are a dozen of reasons to not like this game. The drawn out boring cutscenes, the insufferable dialog, the nonsensical side characters that take you out of the immersion, the bland combat, the fact that it's a God of War game without Kratos, the fucking colorful Disney animals wandering around…

But like… the character model? That's the tipping point? Frankly I think the character model looks pretty realistic.

Meanwhile, the OP posted

Like, he's clearly just looking for a reason to make the game into a controversy. It's either satirical bait (which I am DEFINITELY falling for), or he's got a few screws loose.

Its funny how if you complain about characters being uglified in a videogame you get called

Gooner,
Pathetic Incel
Dumb
Etc

Zero arguments, just insults. Pathetic

No one called you a gooner, incel, dumb, etc so stop the victim complex plz. And this thread is as low quality as low quality gets, and dosen't deserve a big explanation/argument because it won't change your mind anyway. You made this thread with an agenda in mind and you want people to back your own agenda. I refuse to engage in a back and forth when it's utterly pointless.

They did a 1:1 modeling. Some details are bound to be lost when converted into a video game, as graphics are still not literally 100% photorealistic.

I just tend to agree with sentiment here, they get these pretty models and then just don't even resemble them, not all the time but in some cases.

But the bottom line is I'll be playing it, It doesn't make me steer clear it's just tho I do enjoy busting some game characters balls really, 99% of the time when I'm posting I'm not tryin instigate or anything just having some fun agreeing or disagreeing with topics.

Yeah I have been called that. Dont try to twist it now

I made a thread to talk about a topic. We all here should be able debate without calling names or insult anyone. But the problem is you people can't talk like normal grown adults if someone doesn't allign with your views.

It's always the same crap with you guys

It's on purpose but I don't believe it's for uglification; my guess is it's because of the overall story and or immersion-retention reasons.

For example, it would be kinda weird for a reincarnated woman in an evil realm to be all dolled-up and ready for a night out on the town. That would stick out pretty quickly. On top of that, if the story is about a perilous journey, you kinda want everything — and not just the people — to have a lot of years/wear and tear on them. It would be odd, for example, if Faye's weapons or clothes were in mint condition or the walls and floors had zero chipping/loss of polish. That would betray 'the dangerous journey' story that the devs are trying to tell.

It's like when a character in a game is clearly out of shape but he/she is pulling off acrobatics that are physically impossible due to their bodysize. You notice it immediately, e.g., Donut Drake unlock or the impossibly agile woman in the upcoming Horizon GaaS. Now, we care more about faces and tits than backflips and splits, so naturally we'd sooner notice and comment on the former stuff than the latter. And naturally, developers will try to make us not notice this stuff because it could be distracting if you just can't stop thinking about it during gameplay.

But I think that's what it boils down to: they don't want to break immersion so they make the characters and world feel like one big 'real' place with real wear and tear, real noses that aren't perfectly straight, real women that aren't all busty, real skin discoloration etc. SSM has more than enough (incredibly) skilled lighting artists, animators, 3D modelers etc. that could easily make Faye look like a Paris Fashion Week model. But her being a supermodel in a world where she's fighting demons and literally getting punched in the face by God's, well, that's probably going to betray the beautification framework of that universe.

Yeah, fair enough. I don't agree, but I can get behind a small bit of inflammatory shitposting. I'm doing the same thing lol.

I do hope for you that there's a nice, glamoured up sex scene in there, though lol. I'm just saying, I'd let those thighs crush my skull.

Its not just Sony... and its a holdover of weirdos in the game industry that keeping holding on to power.

Just gotta simply let this stuff bomb. Which most of them are anyway.

Theres 0 reason for brand loyalty and those who have are just silly.

We cant even argue if the game is good considering all they showed was an extended walking cutscene and a "cinematic" boss fight with little going on gameplay wise.

Leaving aside the angry Gonzito Gonzito noises I think it is a limitation of the engine. They reused a tech used to picture hard factions of an action hero, but that's not how most people look. You can clearly see the character model is on point but the lack of shadow below her hair, the absence of sub-surface scattering and hard shadows in the normal maps is what gives the protagonist her "hard plastic" look. It's something like the girl in RE:Requiem: the more you striped lightning techniques the worse she looks. But the character is the same.

I just cant believe that some people are defending this when we have amazing looking characters in Resident Evil games where the character model looks exactly as their counterpart in real life

First of all, sony nowadays is bunch of woke cuckholds, so ofc they will pander to politically correct clownword zealots, 2nd of all, the actress currently is 41yo and looks nothing alike like she did in her prime, now she looks like a mid, and on top a granny:

Her durning true blood s1 back in 2008 was pure fire:

I think here's the thing and that is for entertainment, grounded isn't always the most visually pleasing. Now I totally get the no makeup stuff believe me, been down that road lol but the model here her real self I find super attractive, she's stunning. Her game model why am I not finding that same attraction? It's not that the character is hideous but to me, in fantasy entertainment it's nice to have your not so every day ordinary looking people, thats what makes it fun and awesome.

Like we don't just walk down the street and see a Kratos walking around, he was a good lookin dude, masculine and looks like he gonna wreck shit. I feel the same for female chars, I want to see women that aren't exactly just average everyday women... Not saying every female needs to be a bombshell but I don't think they did the model justice. Gonna ask my wife tomorrow and get her opinion

I guess we'll have the ugly blurry screenshots that are supposed to prove a point until the game releases.

Yes, the lady in Outlaws looked weird. No, Faye doesn't

Not to make excuses for Sony, but I think Faye is just supposed to be older than the actress.

Faye does look like Deborah Ann Woll, just older.
There was 0 reasons for faye to not look like the actress did in her prime in late 2000s (s1 of trueblood for comparision), they could plaster her young face and touch up the body(more titties&ass) to look more youthfull/sexy no probs, there is a reazon kratos doesnt look like this in the games:
kratos_cosplay_w_i_p__by_woad_warrior_dcqmnfp-fullview.jpg

Primarily because 99.9% of their studios/developers are far left ultra wokes who read and post in REEEEtardera (and similar) threads about "Why Women Criticize Sexualized Character Design", and watch Feminist Frequency.

Secondarily because they take ultra realistic photogrametry scans and dump them into their PS Portable and PS4 tuned engines with terrible lighting that makes their uglified models look even worse.
Of course this is the main reason, but some just choose to ignore it and make up silly excuses.

I'm with you that there's a difference between fantastical and realistic. But that's a stylistic choice, ya know? Like, a game like The Last of Us tries to portray the character models as realistic, and it fits that narrative and overall theme. It would be weird to see a character who is dressed to the nines in that game.

And there is a juxtaposition between Kratos, a character ultimately designed for the PS2 with a distinct iconographic artistic style, and this new character that's clearly a 1:1 mocapped version of her actress. And that might be offputting, especially since she just looks like a normal person, instead of an emblematic and stylistic character like Kratos, with his white skin and cartoonish red marks.

But that's a stylistic problem with this game. The OP turned this into a topic about the "uglification of women", which is dumb. If he wanted to argue that he didn't like the artistic direction, then that's a fair argument. This new character (I don't remember her name) is not as cartoonish and iconic as Kratos. She just looks like a normal person. She looks like you could have plucked her from a Game of Thrones background scene. In other words, she's not designed like the stereotypical "fantasy hero" that we might associate with a franchise like this.

But that doesn't mean this character model is intentionally ugly or unrealistic. I feel like those arguments (especially on this forum) end up coming from a place of intentional provocation.

There are a lot of visual design aspects of this game that I think are shit. It fucking opens with an oversaturated neon Disney creature stumbling over itself. In a GOD OF WAR game.

And if the OP had focused on the more legitimate complaints, instead of comparing an in-game action shot against a professionally photographed picture of an actress, maybe I'd be more willing to hear their argument. But this comes across as reaching at best, and I find it so embarrassing and disingenuous to any real critical discussion we should be having about the game.
