Why does Sony make female characters uglier in their games?

Yup, just like I said with the rumor. Faye has existed in the universe, but now that she's the main protagonist in a new game you see girl boss and woke. It won't be admitted, but that's true too. I feel like the only times it hasn't been criticized is because it's some unrealistic looking waifu with double d's in a skimpy outfit.

Her 10 minutes in Ragnarok were already "oh Kratos you dumbo, this is how you should feel" preaching. It will only get worse.

I am not offended by different opinions, I get offended when people call you dumb, retard and all sorts of names for having an opinion. There is a big difference
This you?

I think we got a long way to go. The females are made to be strong , to be equivalent to their male counterpart. They don't know or won't make a strong female that is pretty. I think the studios really believe strengh is this ugly thing.

You mean that almost all western devs AT THE SAME TIME decided that their "vision" will be: ugly woman as main character?

Black rock money and LGBT/feminist mafia have nothing to do with it?

Still looks far better than in the game.

She wasn't preset in 2018 game (only as body).

Freya has makeup in this world, it's not a foreign concept.
Excuse me, Ragnarok.

Yes.... all those historical epic movies where the cast had makeup... what where those movie studios thinking.
It's clearly a choice being made by the team. Nothing I can add there otherwise. Sometimes it's present, sometimes it isn't. Sometimes it's light, sometimes it's heavy. 🤷‍♂️

There is a natural eroticism in a woman's face that some developers refuse to translate into videogames. The male gaze. The porno look. Women who have it are sexy. Note the pale and extremely clear skin with elements with a sheen. This is the same reason you think all AI images of females look like porno. Because that element is built into us humans, we are a sexual animal and videogames do not like to show that part of us on screen. They feel it is violating. Look at this image. Does it look sexual to you? Why?

Because AI will try to replicate real humans and video game human slop tries to replicate women asexually. Notably, Capcom and many foreign developers do NOT do this censorship of the female face.

Makeup vs No Makeup, or lets just say less makeup.

Taking some low res random screenshot of her pulling some face then comparing it a professional camera shot of her dolled up at some event is disingenuous agenda driven bullshit and you know it.

Exactly. For people that have actually watched her act in TV shows........Fey looks exactly like her. She isn't uglier or prettier. That's just her.

I would suggest this is because Japanese developers are not infected by the woke mind virus.

Of all the issues to have with this game (the writing, R2, constant autonarration, Frank), this one seems the least legitimate.

Some of the shots are unflattering, but I wouldn't attribute to agenda what is better explained by game lighting. There's no strong jaw, no squared build. She looks aged, not uglified, like they're going for 40+ mother of a teen/Norse warrior-goddess rather than modern woman in makeup.

The situation is not even comparable to what was done to the Mary Jane or Star Wars Outlaws models, IMO. With that said, let's see if Kratos and Loki's faces have the same warts-and-all approach to realism in upcoming games.

You actually think Fey looks ugly in this trailer?

The SmashJT and his cronies praise I've seen on here for months is extremely telling. I mean, Christ, we can barely have constructive talks about actual video games before someone finds a way to take it into that drivel every single time.

How so? On that same note you could very well say they likely chose not to. I mean, she wasn't all dolled up in 2018, why would she be now?

It's a general statement, not just godess of kitchen and I know they chose not to, they always chose not to, with every female videogame character since 2014/Gamergate/Anita Sarkeesian or so

And Idk, the 2 minutes of Faye in Ragnarok didn't look bad, it probably was the lack of details on her character model as she was such a minor part of the game that made her look good, this over the top muh realism for the sake of it instead of going for more stylized characters makes everything worse, not every game needs to do R* realistic characters

Man I hate this place more and more... I really dont understand why the mods don´t close such threads and act on this bullshit. Don´t you get tired of this outrage bullshit?
Why hate and advocate for shutting down discussion? Ride the wave. Enjoy the chaos.

It's not that serious. It's just games, and this is just one small forum of enthusiasts. Hot takes are part of the fun, and people have ALWAYS talked an exceptional amount of trash around E3/summer reveal season anyway.

Share your own opinions, get in a little word skirmish with an internet stranger (or don't), and move on. Unless people are going overboard, trolling, or violating ToS, it's all fun and games. Where is the harm?

I think her model looks fine. Ofc she can look different in a carefully staged photo, with full makeup and perfect lighting than in a cherry-picked frame taken mid animation...

The quirky talking cube seems like a bigger problem to me.

They have the power to remove her moles for the game. Instead, they made them bigger. There is something wrong with them.
That's something I was thinking about too.
I don't like that more and more, they use actors' faces in games instead of making original fictional designs, but on top of that, why would you keep visual flaws like this instead of removing them to make the character look better? Here they actually made it even worse.

Ingame lighting oddities are normal. You wont see that during cutscenes and important gameplay situations. This is more a technical problem than something made on purpose because you need some sort of raytraced illumination to make your character look right all the time. Bojji Bojji knows better how to explain this in a more technical way

On the other hand, the GOW laundry game is showing you a direct cutscene in which the lighting should look good because its being hand placed by the developers and on top of that during the presentation of the game

There's a huge difference in context when comparing both screenshots

She could be a good character. But she might not end up being a popular character.

The cosplayer test will speak on the popularity. The players will speak whether she is a good character.

Prediction: She will work her way back to life and will be a character in the next God of War game with Kratos.

Have you seen her moles without concealer?

These are also much more recent clips of her. Not images from 15-20 years ago, lmao.

That's something I was thinking about too.

This is something I've liked less and less the more it's gone on. We have the ability to make characters from top to bottom, inside and out. But we'd rather just slap on the face of actors and actresses. To me, it'd make sense if the game was related to an IP or a spin off that was a film or show. But if it's an original IP.... why not just create it all?

I think the thing that annoys me the most about this debacle, is the fact that SMS didn't design an original character and had to hinge on a real life person's characteristics to do the job. That really signals some degree of laziness to me. Creating an original character design from scratch requires way more imaginative effort than this.

They aren't making her uglier, it's this modern trend in writing/directing (in the west) about making everything "grounded" and "realistic".
It's just a 3D model of her without makeup that they intentionally haven't retouched or enhanced in any way to make it look more "raw" and realistic. It's basically the exact opposite of the classic TV/Movie trope where a character just woke up but already has perfect hair and makeup.

Both styles can work. The Raw look can be effective if you are making a grounded drama, or you are making a game where realism is part of the sales pitch (like a Kingdom Come for example). But for a fantasy action adventure game about mythical greater than life characters I don't like it, I want the idealized version that used to be more common in older media (and still is common in Eastern media)

To me the cube comes off as "we want diversity but we don't want a sidekick mansplaining to our girl boss protag so let's just make it a cube."

She doesn't look anything like my Tru Blood queen. 😁
Just making sure she looks like the woman that inspired the model would be a great.

Edit: I posted this in another thread. Someway somehow all these studios manage to stay faithful to this actress likeness. I know it can be done.

GOW Laufey looks fine. I liked the actress in True Blood and I didn't have any issues with her looks in the game. Even thought the short dress had some nice moments in combat. There are a bunch of examples of what the OP is talking about, I just don't like Laufey is one of the better ones.

I think that in this case it wasn't necessarily a matter of making the character ugly.

This seems to me to be another case of exposing the limitations of the Santa Monica engine, it's starting to get outdated.

A large part of the problem stems from the lighting, there's a lack of shadows in many places, the hair looks disjointed, and it has that floating effect due to the lack of shadows.

Ray tracing would help. To me, it shows that all the good artists at Sony are no longer with the company. They used to work harder (probably with a lot of crunch).

1. She has makeup on in this picture
2. She is much younger in this picture
3. In the game she's a Norse Giant who just died around 1000 AD. People weren't hot back then, especially not when they just died. Look at the Senua games. No one complained that she wasn't hot.

Again, making me explain this to you like you're retarded is being completely disingenuous and wasting your time and mine.

Is ugly because she has no makeup, And that's because Santa Monica is taking the realistic path with characters in this game… Give me a fucking break 🤣🤣🤣. In a game fighting with giant monsters, magic cube and a talking sword…
