Anyone else having performance/stutter issues on the newest nvidia 610.47 drivers? Rolling back to 596.49 fixed it

JohnnyFootball

GerAlt-Right. Ciriously.
Asus TUF RTX 4090 AMD 9800X3D. Monitor Alienware QD-OLED 240Hz 4K.

I installed the newest nvidia drivers and enabled Gsync, but started my go time game to check smoothness: Doom Eternal. My system should run everything at 240 fps maxced with ray tracing. But I was going between 60-240 and the there was horrible stutter. It was unplayable. All other games had this issue. tried enabling/disabling Vsync/ULLM etc. Only disabling Gsync and locking the frame did the issue go away. There are threads of this being an issue, but it doesn't seem to be so super widespread that the driver had to be pulled or a hotfix put out. Yet. To me this is a fatal issue. I am wondering if anyone else has this issue. Right now I have reverted back to driver 596.49.

When I tried Doom Eternal on my Acer 34" QD-OLED at 240 Hz, it was butter smooth. GSync will work on this monitor, but it is not explicitly listed as compatible. My alienware QD-OLED is listed as compatible and I am wondering if the issue is limited to that.

Just seeing if anyone else has had this issue.

Yeah. I updated to 610.47 and rocket league ran like shit. Stutter fest. So downgraded and all good. Weird. Im on a 39 lg oled 240hz btw. Gsync seemed busted with new driver.

Don't know if it's the drivers or not, but since I updated them I randomly go from 120 fps to 100% CPU utilization and drop to 30 fps. Guess I need to try rolling back.

Only have played Crimson Desert on the latest but no performance issues. One thing I did notice which was odd in CD is when the day/night cycle hit a certain point it didnt naturally fade it just went bright as shit all of a sudden, and it happened three times. Other than that it has been good.

I rolled back to the previous release and all the issues are gone. I am wondering if this is limited to 4000 and below series GPUs. If this was truly as bad as it seems then I am fairly certain it would be talked about far more.

Nvidia having driver issues is no longer a surprise, but this is the first time it has made the gaming unplayable for me. I did try shutting off GSync and locking the framerate to 120 and then everything went to being smooth as butter.

gemini and chatgpt (which i have lost ALL faith in) suggested that this update may have broken DSC causing weird handshake issues. I tried it on my Alienware 32" QD-OLED, which requires DSC to get 4K 240 since it still uses DP 1.4 and my 4090 doesn't include native DP2.1 support, so I have no real way of testing whether that is the issue. I tried using it on the HDMI 2.1 port and I had the same stutter issues. It's DEFINITELY a driver issue.

So far I don't see issues.

I wonder if they fixed GOW Ragnarok, they fucked rendering in this game around RE9 release.

What GPUs are you using? From what I gather 5000 series GPUs are less affected. I could check to see how my 5070 Ti runs, but I have no way of testing a true DP 2.1 implementation.

I've only played Luna Abyss recently. I've run a few benchmarks from CP77 and saw no issues.
BUT
I'm going to stop upgrading drivers for a while till August when the new Ray Reconstruction gets added to DLSS 4.5.
Maybe by then Nvidia will have it's driver issus sorted out.

Which GPU? Is it a 5000 series GPU?

I have been unable to use any newer driver since March, as I have a problem with nv failsafe on my 5k monitor.

It's a known issue ( mainly with the apple 5k display, mine is a Samsung ) and supposedly been mitigated this version but the actual fix is supposed to be next release.

I have been too apprehensive to upgrade since like March. My system is stable, performance is as expected and I haven't updated due to all kinds of issues with seemingly every driver release. 😅

Got a 5080.

Any time people claim to see SIGNIFICANT changes in performances between driver versions (be it improvements or degradations) it almost invariably turns out to be a lot of placebo effect in actionv and something that cannot be replicated reliably at scale.

Same here. If it's not broken, why fix it? I'm a few updates behind.

Yup had to roll back to 596.49 due to big temperature increases on gpu and memory junction temps with my 5090 aio whilst playing Forza( from 66-74 c) and Crimson Desert went to 84 c from 66c for two days while I was using it ,Rolled back and went to 66c again .So wierd and nothing else had been altered either 🤷‍♂️

I am NOT experiencing any issues on my 5070 Ti connected to my LG C4 at 144Hz. Note that 4K 144Hz does not require DSC, so maybe the issue only exists when DSC is required.

Maybe this was an instance of DSC not being used. It ran perfectly fine in that instance.

I cna assure the shitty stutters and horrible frametime issues werent fucking placebo. Anyone one playing the game could have figured out that something was borked.

I've never rolled back a driver. Can I do that within the Nvidia app?
No. There are tons of tutorials on how to do it. It involves using DDU in safe mode, where you do a complete uninstall. Go into windows with internet disabled so windows cant grab a generic driver, install the older drivers and restore your internet connection.

Not a super easy process, but not a super difficult one either.

Oh man, I'll just tolerate the performance and wait for the next update lol

RTX 3060ti 8gb. I also have a laptop with the 5070 laptop gpu and there it has been solid thus far.

You don't need to do that, just select that option in DDU:

You CAN do that and it will probably be just fine. But, if you're having issues doesn't it make more sense to just wipe out any and all traces? Doing it in safe mode completely removes any residuals.

Plus, you have to remember to turn that feature back on after the update is complete.
