PAL Charts - Week 48, 2011

So, Rayman then... that's gonna be £5 after Xmas.

Shouldnt have put it up against 4 other amazing games that release on the same day or a few days apart. I fucking loved the Rayman demo and I've been looking forward to playing the full game but 60 euro's around this time? My money is tight and I would have bought it if they launched it in say february or something like that.

Why on earth are the original Dance Central and Kinect Sports in the chart when the sequels are out? Anyone know? It is just down to big price cuts on the originals? (I'd have thought they'd have cost very little for ages now).

Bundle with hardware maybe?

It was £34.99 in Gamestation yesterday but I'm not sure about elsewhere. It will fall victim to knee-jerk price cuts within a week or two though.

Mario 3D Land, on the other hand, will hold its price for a long time.

mario land 3d down to £29.89
rayman origins down to (3ds) £29.85

Zelda being outsold by SR3, Forza, and Uncharted legacy sales has to really hurt. I think WM+ adoption has to have something to do with it, there's no way the franchise dipped that much in one generation is there?
Dipped compared to what? Zelda's never been particularly big in the UK, and certainly wasn't last gen.

A customer os all it takes? Quick, lets bring Amazon to its knees by finding poorly described products.
Hehe. Yeah, i was wondering about that too, if it is just one complain or several. It does say "a customer", so they talk about one person here, but it would be kinda crazy if they halt the sales of a product because of one complain because that could be an isolated case (i guess it depends a bit on exactly what the complain is about though).

EDIT: I noticed that it is just the Xbox 360 version that is halted. The PS3 version is still up for sale:

Mario Kart 7 doing good.
UC3 rising in lot of places... Interesting..

I have to admit, as much as I want to play Skyward Sword, the price of the game + Wiimote bundles has put me off so far. I'll need to check around and see if anywhere is slashing yet, or ever with it being a Nintendo game.

Nintendo 3DS became last week’s biggest selling games device – and it might even sell out before Christmas.

The portable appears to have overcome is stuttering launch in recent weeks, with hardware sales growing exponentially. MCV can reveal that the Metallic Red 3DS - released in September - is sold out at retail. While the Aqua Blue edition is now only available on an allocation basis.

According to retailers, the device was comfortably the biggest selling games machine last week, shifting just shy of 70,000 copies

It follows the console's price cut in August, and two big name releases - Super Mario 3D Land on November 18th and Mario Kart 7 last week (December 2nd). Both of which have been backed by a mainstream TV ad blitz.

"It's great to see Nintendo's peak marketing campaign in full swing, this combined with the launches of Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 have taken 3DS to a whole new level, making it this Christmas' "must have" present," GAME Group's category manager for Nintendo Iain Johnson told MCV.

"We have seen strong sales so far and have high expectations for the final few weeks before Christmas. Well done Nintendo, Mario strikes again."

Some retailers have been aggressive with price on 3DS in recent weeks, with Sainsbury's dropping the machine to just £119.99.

“Deals like this are also great news for customers and we are delighted that our latest 3DS offer has been so popular," said head of games Gurdeep Hunjan.

"We know that Christmas can be an expensive time of year so a promotion like this can really help customers keep within their budgets.

“We have ambitious plans for entertainment and selling more consoles is a big part of this. We are thrilled to have such a successful end to the year and it sets us up well to really hit the ground running in 2012.”

UK Top 40: Skyrim dethrones Modern Warfare 3
Bethesda behemoth The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim has knocked Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 off of the UK all-format chart top spot.

Skyrim sales rose 145 per cent, levelling the RPG up the chart from fifth last week to first.

The price of Skyrim dropped by an average of £13 compared to last week.

The games launched head-to-head, five weeks ago. Modern Warfare 3 has held first place in the chart ever since.

Ubisoft song-fest Just Dance 3 rose for the fourth week running into third place, no doubt helped by the launch of the game's PlayStation 3 version.

FIFA 12 and Assassin's Creed: Revelations made up the rest of the top five.

Battlefield 3 was sixth, ahead of the new Professor Layton game Spectre's Call, which held seventh for the third week running.

Saint's Row: The Third, Uncharted 3 and Mario Kart 7 also managed top ten finishes.
