when next zelda releases, skyward sword will be considered the best zelda ever by fans, and the new one will be the worst. Zelda cycle yo.

Nah.

Didn't happen with TP.

It still has too much bullshit at the beginning. Oddly enough, though, SS's bullshit is spread out over the entire game. Right when you're getting into it, BAM, cock punched.

lol @ zelda

Maybe Nintendo will actually listen to fans next time.
I hope they will never do this.

Except if you want an epic realistic yet also cartoony Zelda with Skyrim overworld which is also as condensed as possible and there's steampunk everywhere and an Oscar-worthy story but any cutscene can't last over 30 seconds and the structure is like in Zelda 1 but at the same time nothing like it.

Day one.

But seriously.

What fan is asking for "ADD SOME BULLSHIT STUPID FETCH QUESTS THROUGHOUT THE MAIN GAME"?

Give it time, we *just* got the next game to get the cycle going. Over the next year I expect a lot of retroactive TP loving (vast overworld to explore! SS sucks!).

Over 83%, to be specific, and I do believe it's the highest ever. (It was released ten weeks after Gamecube launch.)

Gamecube LTD the week before: 299,412

Smash Bros launch sales: 357,101
Gamecube LTD with Smash launch: 428,789

Fuck yeah. Wouldn't expect any less from the best game ever.

What the hell happened to Zelda? Shortages?

Mind you though, Zelda TP on Wii pulled off almost exactly the same sales in its 2nd week (sub 37,000 VS 32.191)

Motion killed the Zelda series. Now we can only hope for ports and hd remakes for wii-u.

I think the biggest problem relies on the platform itself. Have look on Kirby or Itadaki Street: it seems they're underperforming as well (even if they surely have huge legs during December) and they're pretty much the most important releases of 2011. I do think the active userbase on Wii has been decreasing since last year, and that's why we're seeing these bad performances.

With disappointing sales for SS, Itadaki Street, and Kirby, I can only assume Wii is suffering from large levels of late-generation fatigue and/or piracy.

Zeldas performance reminds me of Tales of Graces that was surrounded by NSMBWii and FF13 two years ago. I think this time there were too many more popular options especially for multiplatform gamers. Mario3Dland, Mario Kart among some other popular PSP and PS3 games. This week Monster Hunter on a Nintendo system soon after FF13-2 and the release of a new system with Vita. A further problem is that Wii obviously hasn´t a big active userbase anymore, after two years of disastrous 3rd party support and only a few Nintendo games, it isn´t actually a surprise. All combined makes it really difficult to have good numbers in the next weeks.

I wouldn't say that this is that disappointing. It's still tracking ahead of Epic Yarn no?

Yes, it is, but it is a mainline game and it is selling way below Kirby games (even the remake). I expected a bit more, probably something around 250k for the launch week and 700k in total, also looking at how Donkey Kong Country performed well last year (and Kirby is more popular than him in Japan).

Kirby Squeak Squad and Kirby Superstar Ultra's sales were abnormal for the series though. It usually sells well, but not THAT well!

It should do 500-600k after all is said and done.

The DKC series was more popular than the kirby series though.

The Wii is suffering from post-abandonment stress.

Hmm ... I think the 3DS will get a nice boost in weeks 49 and 50 thanks to MH3G, but I don't think it'll reach the mark set at week 51.

just like with Other M, trying to cater to the japanese market did jack shit to help Skyward Sword's sales. it actually dropped from the predecessor just like Other M vs MP3. it also damaged the perception a bit outside japan (a lot of people that i know say that SS looks kiddie and worse than TP. i wouldn't be surprised if this was pretty common)

next gen, nintendo should just do whatever they want to do with the series and don't force it to cater a certain region. prepare for a HD TP-look-a-like next gen on Wii U because the cartoony style will probably become handheld-only after this. at least the 3DS can produce a good looking game this time, unlike the old DS's bad 3D.

I don't want to live in a world where SS is kiddie and tossed away for dark & gritty LOTR style. I actually would have a hard time thinking of something worse, and that's in the same week as Ueda leaving Sony.

I know, but Epic Yarn got a nice bump during the holidays and then almost nothing; if Kirby's Adventure follows the same path, I'm doubtful it will reach 600k, probably more in the 450-500k range, anyway still low in my opinion.

In my opinon Zelda Skyward Sword is quite good in art design and graphics, it suffers camera problems indeed!
I feel bad for Wii since Rhythm Paradise Wii, Pokemon Park 2 and Kyrby Wii like this Zelda don't go anywhere sales-wise.
Dragon Quest X is a big question mark, being multiplatform is not enough, it shall to go portable on 3DS.

nobody mentioning king of fighters? they're all busy playing.

It was noted earlier in the thread.
First week sales were better than KOFXII, but not as high as KOFXI.

I think KOF is another fighting game that has a much stronger international following.
Getting a lot of good press and hype around the community, hopefully will have a strong showing worldwide.

Zelda's performance has to be judged by WW sales. Western sales have eclipsed the Japanese ones for a long time.

Zelda fans are Nintendo's answer to Final Fantasy fans.

They're the worst people to listen to when it comes to the future direction of the series. Thankfully, Skyward Sword flies in the face of their complaints/desires.

I'm predicting 2 million worldwide, max. :(

Lol you've got no clue. It's already coming close to that. 2 million WW would almost certainly make it the worst selling game in the series.

What are Majora's Mask's Japanese and WW numbers anyway? That game needed an add-on to be played and was released at the end of its console cycle too.

Dragon X will be fine right. I mean its Dragon Quest so high sales are guaranteed or not?

Is the poor Zelda sales down to people abandoning the Wii over the last few years. Has motion+ played a part?

I thought the expansion pak was only ever bundled with DK64. I remember I didn't buy MM precisely because I didn't have money for the pak.

Please don't tell me I'm wrong. If I am, then that means that the drop is a result of franchise decline that'll only get worse next-gen.
