Graces can be finished between 30 and 40 hours - took me about 35 IIRC. The F chapter adds about 10 hours, supposedly, but I haven't played it yet.
That 10 hours is an exaggeration sadly. It takes less than 5 hours to beat it.

I don't think Graces story is boring. Duckroll just hates Tales games and finds excuses to stop playing them even when he's having fun!
Graces story is good because it doesn't try to be anything beyond generic and simple. It doesn't think it's smart and doesn't shove it in your face. It's not like most Tales games where you groan and smack your forehead.

I'll take generic over painfully awful, just keep it straight and to the point. Or execute it well, but that's obvious. That sounds terrible to me. Anything is better than generic

Lol, that's exactly what's wrong with the narrative of the game.
Honestly everything that Graces f does is very simple and very underdeveloped, except its battle system and the mechanics revolving around it. It's a great game to play but presentation-wise and narrative-wise it fails.
True, most of the time "bad" is just boring with a few exasperating moments, but that was special. Still, there's a lot of other areas a game can compensate in for a boring story beyond gameplay itself, such as art direction, music, or just creating a certain feel. I do agree that I'd rather have a more out there story, though I stopped depending on that too much about when I played Xenosaga 2. And I have to admit boring with loads of drawn out cutscenes and piles of dialogue is one of the worst things that can happen without being outright awful, at least have the self awareness that you're not telling us a good story, let alone a special one, and let us get back to the game.I guess I WOULD take generic over something like Star Ocean 4, but getting down to that level is impressive in its own right.
The ending is actually very good, if only because it does something that you normally wouldn't expect. Still, the story is more boring than say Abyss but a lot less stupid because at least the characters aren't written like assholes.
It's going to be hard to go back to Graces whenever I get the US release. I much prefer Xillia's combat now and the story in that is actually good for the most part.
Story is fine IMO, the big thing with this game is gameplay. The battle system is amazing, and the title system is just really, really addictive. Does a really good job of giving that constant drip-feed of progress and making you want to continue playing/growing your charas throughout the 40 or 50 hours it takes to finish.

Otoh, there simply isn't much to it. The world is tiny (3 cities), and the plot is one note (go do ___ from city to city). There's a little more to it, but there are hardly any twists in the game and it's not particular long or epic in scope. It's a simple rpg about a bunch of characters going around the world saving it, the end. But it's accompanied by the most fun and best battle system in the series, good dungeons, and fun gameplay sub-systems. The game is fun to play and the story is enough to simply give you a reason to keep moving forward in your world travel until the ending.
The story isn't memorable, but it's not obnoxious. It's fine. The cast is entertaining enough to make it a pleasant journey.
What about exploration and dungeons?
It IS a HD port of a Wii game, you know.
And don't expect us to get Vesperia PS3. And you'd better let it go.
As long as it's not like Legendia. I actually liked what I played more than I expected, but the long boring dungeons made me quit while I was ahead.I would say that it feels more like Symphonia or Abyss dungeon-wise, rather than Vesperia. I don't know if that makes sense to you or not.
Bah, boring is the worst thing a story can be for me. Hopefully I won't feel the same way.
Why can't they release thee Wii version as well? They have the translation and everything done, it cant be that hard.
I'm sad I'll never get to play this game.
Because it was a disaster! (sry about the source, but it was the fastest I could google)

Okay, that is a reason. Weird I never heard of that before.
Well then, enjoy this game everyone

..... That's it?
Not even little Villages here and there!!!!

3 cities? i'm pretty sure there was hometown, city1, city2, ancient city, ancient city2, tropical city, icy town, tropical port, tropical town.
i completed every inn request for the title, and if there were only 3 towns it would have been much easier to get.
I think at one point Namco made the excuse that Graces f couldn't fit on a DVD since it was on a Blu-Ray. When fans pointed out the data partition of f would fit a DVD-9 (IIRC it was like 6GB and considering that includes HD FMV?...) Namco went silent. The cynic in me says the PS3 version brings higher revenue and givenWhy can't they release thee Wii version as well? They have the translation and everything done, it cant be that hard.

You offering to buy CoolS a PS3?If only the Playstation 3 existed...
god I play the Tales games but it's increasingly hard not to slit my writs with their pathetically one dimensional themes of friendship, HOPE, spirit of freedom and whatever.
LET'S PLEDGE TO BE FRIENDS! IF WE WORK TOGETHER, WE CAN ACCOMPLISH ANYTHING!
This is seriously worst thematic direction than a fucking episode of Sid the Science Kid.
The writing in the trailer alone was so awful that it set the written word back to pre-Sumarian times.
As for the whole Japanese Wii release was more like Tales of DisGraces. I thought even in Japan the initial buggy release was fixed.
I can't explain why, but even tough the writing is the same in the JP version it somehow is a lot more bearable.
Tiger Festival!
Yes, it's entirely possible to do this in one playthrough (though you'd have an easier time with two since you have access to the grade shop). It's gonna take you a while though. Remember how I said getting through Graces took me a while, more than a standard playthrough? It's because I was trophy-hunting in one playthrough... and the battle system and ability system are highly, highly addictive.Hmmm... So I can get all the trophies in one gamerun right? I heard you have to play it in easy mode to get the "hardest" trophies (1 min to kill a boss).
As I said before, boring is the worst thing something can be for me. I want something that's REALLY out there. I mean Chrono Cross has my favorite story in gaming and that's far from generic. Dragon Quest stories on the other hand are painfully boring to me despite some people showering them with praise precisely for being generic.
I guess I WOULD take generic over something like Star Ocean 4, but getting down to that level is impressive in its own right.
Still have this preordered from Amazon when they had it listed at 39.99!
Yeah. There were three major countries but there were definitely more than 3 towns to visit. More like 10 or something.3 cities? i'm pretty sure there was hometown, city1, city2, ancient city, ancient city2, tropical city, icy town, tropical port, tropical town.
i completed every inn request for the title, and if there were only 3 towns it would have been much easier to get.
It did according to the wikis. Not half as many, but they still left bugs in the fixed version. They did fix it. Took 'em a few months, but they ended up re-releasing the game with some major bug fixes, and offered to replace the originals.
Don't know if it still had bugs or not though. I never got around to playing it.
I really liked Vesperia, but playing Abyss a few weeks ago for the first time really turned down my hype for this game. Its pacing was so terribly off (run to City A for two lines of useless dialogue -> run to City B for more useless dialogue -> revisit Dungeon X for no reason at all, not even a boss fight -> rinse and repeat, arrrrrgh). I hope Graces isn't as bad about this, as I really -want- to like those Tales games.
Graces isn't really like that.
I also think it's important for people to realize that it is a game by a Tales team that they most likely haven't been exposed to. Don't go into this expecting Vesperia or Abyss or Symphonia because it's different.
Now that the date is out of the way, how about a demo!
Do we really want them to go down that route though? I mean Vesperia's demo was horrible yet that game was awesome.
Also, there's technically already one up on the Japanese PSN Store.
Graces has more towns than Xillia, that's for sure.
