It recycles money!
That chart makes me wonder about that forecast in the first place. How many was it 16m the expected? Am I reading this wrong, or have they never had a console come anywhere NEAR that in its first year, but somehow they expected the 3DS to do it?
True. Makes sense, I guess they're trying to expand their North American audience, considering PSP and all.
I just wish I cared about any of those franchises :lol
GBA did it. It had over 17 million in its first full fiscal year and over 15 million in its second.

Hard to say. III and IV DS are the only portable versions of home FF games to hit such numbers yet, and they were both massively remade versions on the hottest hardware ever. On the other hand, most that weren't III and IV DS came out either on really unsuccessful hardware (WonderSwan) or were really late to the party (GBA post-DS).Opiate said:

But they were also much older by the time they were remade. I personally believe that's an important aspect. I definitely assume the majority of people who bought the remakes never played the originals, whereas a much larger part of the audience FFX tries to target probably already played it. With the way the genre changed in recent years, I'm also not quite sure how many people are still willing to deal with pretty much outdated concepts like random encounters these days.

3DS had many of those as well. Games got canned quietly, and not even because the 3DS didn't sell well out of the gate. Assassin's Creed, Saint's Row and Bloodrayne were canned before the system even launched. With what little we have, I wouldn't hold my breath for Bioshock Vita or whatever ever surfacing.
I think it'll sell more to the larger install base personally. Plus when most people buy HD remakes, it's to experience them on their huge TVs to get something they couldn't have had in the past, so for these reasons I believe you to be correct.
Also, I come home and find Pacman eating AGAIN?!? He doesn't nearly exercise enough to be devouring things this much.

yup - moaned about it elsewhere - came out last week and the game seems to be pretty much a dirty little secret.
3rd parties seem to be getting shat on if they aren't Monster Hunter. Trying to find the games in stores behind all the Nintendo stuff or - like in sofmap - on a shelf of their own tucked away.
I've not had chance to play it yet as i'm tied up with other handheld games, but will give it a whirl this morning

They can only blame themselves. Nintendo gave them a huge window of opportunity to capitalize on the launch and soon after launch buyers, with literally no competition outside of Nintendogs and Pilotwings. It resulted in months of moaning of no software worth owning, and weird, that doesn't change until Nintendo drops with Zelda, Star Fox, Super Mario, and Mario Kart. I seriously have no sympathy for third parties on Nintendo hardware, they really just don't get it for the most part.
Yeah when I see some of the predictions for FFX HD I wonder if people missed the part where it isn't a full blown remake, but a HD-ified PS2 game.

Interesting - I'd imagine it's purely a case of retailers pushing the "big" games that are guaranteed to sell, rather than "wasting" shelf space on the smaller titles?
Doesnt help that is the worst game in the series, such a pos :/
I went with the assumption that it wasn't merely a port but had remade aspects (like full 3D backgrounds and not pre rendered stuff). Unless that changed it's a little bit more than just porting it.
Still between regular and "the best' versions, I don't think FFX will do less than 500k. I could be wrong though (wouldn't be the first time).

If you take any stock in Comgnet's ability to show a general trend on games like this, then it looks ugly.
I think being the second most popular and having the most popular character outside of VII overwrites that little issue.

X? Very easily. X even beat out VII a few years back on the best games poll to take number 1.
Also if you aren't named Cloud or Sephiroth then Yuna is more popular then you.
Deservingly so IMO. It was one of the best games I have ever played.

And even i am moderately surprised
i've started surviving on around 4 hours sleep a day, mainly because i had a project at work for the last 6 months that needed me to hammer it.
It wound up last week, you'll notice i suddenly started posting more. But i can't get out of the sleep pattern (or lack of sleep pattern) :/
that's not the point i was making - the point is that for whatever reason stores are chosing to push Nintendo's titles in the main whilst the other games are , in some cases, literally not in plain view - whilst the 3DS displays are just a wall of nintendo games - maybe Layton slides in, Monster Hunter does to as a huge hitter. Whilst i had noticed this with Sonic and a few other 3rd party games, it was only when i couldn't find Winning Eleven that i though "wtf?!"
Winning Eleven isn't exactly a small game - but it too seems to be getting the cold shoulder from retailers. Perhaps they're not helping the self perpetuating myth by simply assuming that it's the Nintendo stuff that's going to sell to customers and devoting the space to them?

If the games "ostracized", including WE, are things like Sonic, NFS, Cooking Mama and other titles of this range... well, they would have NEVER sold a lot, neither on other platforms.
I mean, Sonic Generations charted 36th with the PS3 version and 48th with the 3DS one last week.
We've already had many examples of third party games doing well...and Senran Kagura has also demonstrated that new IPs done with all the right charachteristics for appealing to a certain audience of the market can sell well. Kagura has even outdone all the Marvelous efforts on Wii :lol
Now, talking about FFXIII-2, and what was saying schuelma. Since we've got final preorders pt from Comgnet...

Line was nowhere near as busy as I would have expected for a FF launch event, but by no means did I stick around long enough to see if the lines would build up. It's still early, so we'll have to wait for the line reports (if any).

We will all look back on the Mario 3D Land --> Mario Kart 3DS --> Monster Hunter 3G onslaught the way we do that first Nintendogs --> Brain Training --> Animal Crossing Wild World sequence of unstoppable DS sales juggernauts.
Cause the PSP is affordable and has a million games and can use UMD (a bigger issue in Japan than people realize, considering the used games market).

PSP is pretty cheap, has a strong library and it's successor is being overshadowed by a certain big game on a rival console...
Adding on to what you said: Would you have a new system with no UMD support and no ability to buy a ton of super cheap games likely on very large sales, or would you rather buy a new system and pay full-price for all those games, which you will likely need to spend another $20-120 on top of the system to contain all those games you want?

Noice! It's definitely performing better than any previous 3D Mario. Those kind of legs are more similar to NSMB than Galaxy...
That's a large drop, but a smaller one than Mario Kart Wii's 2nd week (-66%). For comparison's sake, Mario Kart DS had a 29% drop in its 2nd week but it started off much lower than MKWii or MK7 (at 224,411 for week 1)

MH3G will have no effect on the Vita launch though. The reason people still buy psp is because it's cheap, has a huge library and there's still a few high profile games coming.
And because Vita doesn't have "full" backwards compatibility...
There are more... interesting Vita is doomed stories than that picture. We just had one about a boat...
Vita would be an interesting test case in how much backwards compatibility affects the sales of a handheld, if there weren't a number of mitigating factors that could affect the sales much more.

Globally it'll still be a solid seller if nothing spectacular like the first, with a bit of luck the decline of the Olympic games could mean they think about a real Mario and sonic platformer, it could be a real killer app for WiiU
