Metal Gear Rising's lead platform is PS3

Which means the PS3 version won't upscale to 1080, even forced. Which sucks for people like me who own 1080p TVs with lousy built-in upscaling. i.e. Bravia. I bought Vanquish for PS3 and ended up exchanging it for the 360 version. I didn't notice much of a difference aside from the 360 version looking better on my TV... which is the case across the board for any and all cross-platform games that won't upscale on the PS3 for whatever reason. e.g. Portal 2, LA Noire...

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a Wii U version at 1080p & 60 fps. I'm in the same boat as you though, my TV is 1080p and games like Vanquish look blurry on PS3. I've been on the fence about buying a 360 but I might just try to find a smaller 720p TV instead. I'd rather just buy the game for Wii U and stick with my main TV though. It is kind of disheartening to think that Konami and Platinum doesn't have a dev kit though - or do they? It's odd that Kojima supported 3DS early on but we haven't heard a peep about Wii U from him. It just seems like a game like this would do well on a new system.

What the FUCK am I reading. Why is there WiiU garbage randomly coming out in a thread like this. You should bow your head in shame and get the fuck out of here.

huh, I didn't even notice.

To tell you the truth, when playing Vanquish my mind was busy with other things that I didn't think for a second to notice the IQ.

It ll give me an excuse to get some more game time :)

Fox Engine is X360 compatible too. I believe everything from KojiPro from now on will be PS360 and Vita.

Believe based on what?...

Rising would've been his first Xbox game, yet he wanted nothing to do with it

Wii is a lost cause, it makes more sense for people to start defending the WiiU...

MGS HD Collection is multiplatform, Peace Walker HD is multiplatform (developed by Kojima Productions too), ZoE HD Collection will be multiplatform, and Kojima has already said that the objective of the Fox Engine is so that they can develop multiplatform games instead of exclusives because of the changing market conditions.

I should've mentioned original releases :C (multiplatform rereleases are their thing)

But yeah, has there been any confirmation of KojiPro actually working on a multiplatform (inc. 360) game?

Great to hear. It's absolutely ridiculous that 5 years in, the PS3 is still getting shoddy port-jobs like Skyrim and Red Dead Redemption.

read: 360 version will be gimped because of PS3.

Well system wars BS aside is that a crazy thing to say? I don't think so.

The Bayonetta engine was created on the 360 hardware and made great use of the edram and 360's unified memory structure so PG most likely cut corners for Vanquish's version of the engine (which they will probably use also for MGR) since it lead on the PS3 which may be the reason for the sub-HD res and the 30fps when compared to 360's Bayonetta 720p/60fps.

It's like for example having FFXIII-2 leading to the 360 just because FFXIII on 360 was the weakest version - I don't want that, making compromises on both consoles for parity's sake alone sucks especially when the engine is clearly optimized and taking advantage of the PS3's hardware.

I guess I'm in the minority but I personally don't care for parity as I have both systems...I want the best possible version for each game I'm interested in, simple as that.

fixed hardware... to expect no differences between platforms is just idiotic either entitlement, ignorance or stupidity.

That ignores all the improvements that were made to the engine in Vanquish. Considering that the 360 regularly drops and tears from 30fps, it's not like it was simply gimped with a 30fps cap or dropped the resolution just to match the PS3.

IIRC besides the triple buffering on the PS3 (which AFAIK is not present in any game on 360) the game is identical on both systems graphics and frame-rate wise with a slight advantage for 360 when a lot of particles are on screen.

About the improvements besides the higher poly count and the inclusion of object motion blur I don't see anything better than Bayonetta which has better texture quality, higher res particles, a full 720p framebuffer when compared to the 1024*720p res of Vanquish (almost 200.000 reduction in pixel fidelity) and of course half the frame-rate.

Anyway all this talk is based on theory alone as we have no proof of any of this... I guess we'll have to say more when we'll see how Bayo 2 will turn out now that Platinum is leading on the PS3 - for now let's wish that MGR will turn out an awesome game and that Bayo 2 is already in the making. :p

Well I don't know about Red Dead, but the leading for Skyrim is definitely not PS3 version. Hell most of Bethesda's game run like shit on the PS3.

Hmm, for me it's one of those "once you've seen it, you cannot unsee it" things.

I bought my PS3 in Jan. 2007... then I got my HDTV in Feb. 2008. And it wasn't until Oct. 2008 that I found out about the whole "some PS3 games will only go to 720p" issue. It was when Dead Space came out. The first thing I noticed when I started playing was that it looked a lot worse than it had in the official videos I'd been watching on PSN.

I mentioned this in a post (at this very forum, in fact) and that was when I learned that some PS3 games default to 720p and that you can go into the PS3 XMB display settings and force them to 1080p by disabling 720p. I did that, and suddenly Dead Space looked noticeably better, as good as the trailers. It smoothed out the jaggies, textures were improved, and it got rid of some peculiar artifacting that I've never been able describe very well, but I always see it whenever my PS3 is displaying 720p. A sort of grittiness that appears mostly around the edges of 3D objects.

I went back and tried out some previous games, Resistance, Assassins Creed 1, etc. They all looked better now that I had forced them to 1080p. And for a long time it seemed like most PS3 games could do it. Then after a while it became more and more common for that to not be the case, PS3 games only going as high as 720p. It wouldn't be an issue if I had a 720p TV, or a 1080p TV with better built-in upscaling. If this stuff isn't an issue for you, I consider you to be more fortunate than me.

Anyway, it's definitely become a pet peeve. I'm still trying to find out what is the issue that prevents so many developers from releasing PS3 games that can at least be forced to upscale to 1080p, when there are graphic intensive games like MGS4, FFXIII, Dead Space 2, that don't even have to be forced and simply default to 1080p out of the gate.

Why is it that some people still think the PS3 is more powerful than the 360.
I still don't believe that it's because the 360 has better dev tools, the bottom line is that the 360 is the more powerful console and the PS3 just happens to be a bluray Trojan horse.
Why can't people understand this?

I am talking about the fact that people are discussing why the 360 version will suffer because the game will lead on PS3.
People need to understand that the PS3 has nothing over the 360, they are simply leading on the lowest common denominator.

How about they're extremely similar in power, but the Xbox is easier to develop for?

There's nothing similar in the power of both consoles. Maybe you are thinking about performance of the final product?

If developers work really really hard on the PS3 they can get about the same or a little better performance than on the 360, that's what we've seen all through this generation.

Still it's amazing how shitty the Sony hardware design team is, it managed to get out of the gate a similar performing console 50% more expensive than their competitor a year later, and still loose a lot of money. Blu Ray was expensive, but not THAT expensive.

IIRC the real price of the PS3 at launch was something like 900 US$, so are you telling me that Blue Ray's price (and all that implied putting it there) was US$500?? There was absolutely no better and much less expensive solution that couldn't be made because of pure incompetence?

I think not..

Both systems excel in different areas. To lump the systems capabilities all together and say either is more powerful would be highly inaccurate. It all comes down to way too many variables to make such claims, so the topic should always be dropped ASAP since it never goes anywhere.

Read: Lead platform is ps3. 360 version will still be superior.

I'm okay with this. I totally expect the PS3 version to be worse, I just take issue with stuff like Bayonetta and Skyrim, where the companies don't even try to hide that the PS3 audience is subsidizing 360 development.

Vanquish supposedly ran better on PS3. Bayonetta was a shoddy port
