Say what you want about his playlist decisions, but I've always found the guy to be pretty friendly. Maybe I just wasn't provoking his rage.

I read your review of Smashed.

You've convinced me that you're exactly the last kind of person I'd ever want to put on a pedestal. You're so busy making sure you meet ForgeHub's checklist of exploits that you can't even take the time to make sure your own spawns overlap. Then, when someone makes a map that doesn't correspond with what ForgeHub tells themselves is the "correct" way to do things, you write a petty missive about how your own map is so much more deserving of spotlight because of a combination of your own personal stereotypes about gameplay and Forge techniques.

You're no longer welcome here. You're no longer welcome to submit map variants, and in the future I'll be very careful to make sure any ForgeHub submissions are closely looked at to make sure we don't accidentally give someone as full of themselves as you are vindication for their ego.

FORGEHUB MEMBERS, LISTEN UP:

Atlas was born specifically because groups like yours cannot be trusted to provide Matchmaking-worthy maps. This group is clique-agnostic to avoid scenarios where one group and its personal expectations of its members does not poison the possibilities.

It is great to have your own standard. Acting like your standard is more important than other people's, however, will cause drama, and I will not put up with drama. If you cannot be constructive to anyone that doesn't follow your clique's ideals, you don't belong here. If you're more invested in making sure boxes are lined up than you are in making sure your spawns are placed correctly, you don't belong here. If you're going to cry like a child if/when your map isn't accepted, you don't belong here. If you think you or your group is more deserving than other people because of how "hardcore" you imagine yourselves to be, you definitely don't belong here.

tl;dr Shishka got mad cause a map maker critiqued Smashed. You know, one of the worst maps ever created in the history of video games (I guess Shishka was very proud of it). Proceeded to complain about ForgeHub - the largest Halo forge community - having high standards.

I'm amazed he even had time to address the map making community considering all the scary good maps constantly being pumped out of the legendary ATLAS program. I'm sure he was busy as hell working over those submissions. Must've squeezed that response in between removing fusion coils once a month.

There's a "how-to" speed run on halo waypoint if your looking for tips and stuff.
I ended up just running it solo without a guide and managed.. knocked out the next one after with the "Leave it where it lay" achievement. The grunts one is going to be a bit... harder.

2 more missions and my legendary run of CEA will finally be complete. Never beat CE on Legendary before.

Fair enough. Judge him on that if you will. I just use a different metric.

Times Shishka has been mean to me: 0
Times Shishka has been nice to me: 1

And that is the only scorecard that matters (to me).

Besides, I think he was somewhat justified in that post. Complaining because your map didn't get the spotlight when it had broken spawns is just childish. Sometimes even Mr. Playlist Manager has to lay down the law to keep the various communities from throwing rocks at each other.

Mixed feelings on shishka, Im sure he is a nice guy and pretty talented but outburst like that towards a community that support his work are really uncalled.

I understand it must be tough when people attack your work frequently cause haters gunna hate but i think some ability to shrug stuff like that off is needed or you just end up making your self a laughing stock.

ForgeHub was/is the MLGforum/bungie.net forum of the Forge community. It was completely called for. In fact, he beat me to making a post just like that :p They were constantly tearing apart selected maps for aesthetic reasons, citing that their maps were 'perfect' with one of the submitted map authors personally attacking one of the community map authors.

In response, Shishka called out Mr Perfect by showing him that his map had fucked spawns and then proceeded to ban his maps from being considered and warned them that Forge Hub maps would receive extra scrutiny if they came through. I know if someone was an asshole to other map authors without actually providing help or constructive criticism, I'd probably put less weight into considering the maps they put out.

And honestly, their community has gotten (slightly) better after that happened. They thought they were the shit and they should be the only way you get maps into matchmaking. When the whole point of ATLAS and the CC was to be community-neutral. But then we're also talking about a community that had a thread lamenting that Reach Forge was easier to use and therefore 'unskilled' Forgers would be able to make maps. Back in the Halo 3 era they were waaaay to enamored on maps using the most Forge glitches possible than the actual playability of maps.

I think I am the only HaloGAF member who actually doesn't mind prisoner at all.
Nope. There are at least two of us. I loved it in the original game, I still love it.

I love all the absolute "this is a bad map" posts here - folks seem to forget that those are opinions. :)

(Because it's a GOOD map.)

Tunavi's point about spawns isn't even fully accurate; I've spawned many times on the second level, below OS, and on the third level, diagonally opposite from OS. There are plenty of spawn points.

Speaking of maps, found this on HBO's front page.

We were curious as to whether the experts in multiplayer FPS map design held any “rules” in common for how to design the best maps, so we spoke with a group of experts in the field: Jim Brown, Lead Level Designer at Epic Games (whose work includes the Unreal series); Phillip Tasker, Lead Level Designer at Treyarch (the studio responsible for Call of Duty: World at War and Call of Duty: Black Ops); Adam Crist, Design Lead at Certain Affinity (World at War, Black Ops, Halo Reach and Halo: Anniversary); and level designers Inge Jøran Holberg and Niklas Åstrand from DICE (Battlefield series).

"The Halo 4 multiplayer team just exploded into uproarious celebration after a face-shooting match concluded. Wonder what they're playing..." -343i

I doubt its Halo 3 , frames are still being rendered on Xbox's from games that took place in 2009. Results from a game played today might not ever come in before these wretched 360's are unhooked and our true successor reigns.

At a point I believe they outsourced the rendering of frames to children in India Halo 3 officially ran at 1 frame per time it took to crush up flowers and rocks and herbs to get the right colors and draw a scene of Halo then send it by carrier pigeon to the US.

Yeah, but you also take being a 'Community Cartographer' waaaay too seriously.

I'd rather have glitch-heavy maps that look pretty and play well from ForgeHub than the ugly turds that Shishka & Co were dripping out twice a year from ~*Atlas*~.

Pretty rich of Shishka to complain about spawn problems in other people's Forge maps though. I lol'd. Randomized Narrows spawns was the GOAT decision.

If 343 is enjoying it...I'd guess Rocket Hog Race Multi-Team on a BTB map.

The low framerate helps me aim better!

It did
That's because drupal or joomla or whateverthefuck I installed there is shitty poop from pooptown. I need a better CMS. I remember I was trying to archive the ODST q&a from dmiller onto there and it wouldn't let me bold an entire paragraph, it'd autokill the bold after one line and other formatting weirdness/fighting. I ended up putting it on FTZ because the CMS I duct taped together in 30 seconds for that site didn't do that.

Wordpress? joomla is a decent CMS IIRC, so I'm surprised you had a lot of issues with it.

I hope we get new MP maps from 343i when it comes to H4, but I would like Midship to be in H4.

The map didn't get the love it deserved in H3.

While we are speculating: How much of the Halo sandbox from the original trilogy do y'all think we will be seeing now that Chief is stuck on an alien world?

Bit of a misnomer there.

As in built with Forge glitches like unlimited money or object melding.

TIL completing assigned tasks equals taking things too seriously

Assigned tasks? So far the Bungie nerds who cultivate maps have produced bomb after bomb. Create a website for maps that has an open voting system that is sorted into different categories ie Competitive, Fun, etc, etc. Hell, make it a Reddit ripoff and have people upvote interesting maps. When a decent chunk have been picked by the community, have one person who knows what the hell he's doing (LilBlain) playtest the ones that rise to the top.

I have never understood why there is secrecy involved in any part of matchmaking. How do we still not know what the fuck goes into a playlist update? Months would go by without a peep from Shishka during Halo 3.

The nerds who care enough to cultivate maps in some quasi-private section of Bnet are all bad at Halo. Open that bitch up and improve the experience for everybody.

High five! Midship is perfection. I got a lot of Midship in when it hit MLG but yea, I would have loved it to come a year earlier. Instead MLG got a bunch of maps Midship heavily influenced. Good maps but not better than the real thing.
