Media Create Sales: Week 50, 2011 (Dec 12 - Dec 18)

It is still just for saving purposes as far as i know, so a 4GB card would still be enough, yet the higher capacity cards were selling well from what i have read. But regardless of the memorycard sales for Vita, i still think that digital downloads is becoming more popular and accepted in Japan. It is all speculations and anecdotal until we get solid numbers though.

When the digital sales start hitting impressive enough numbers to really make a difference, we wont need to speculate, trust me. Sony and the developer/publishers will make it known.

Are those numbers bad for FF XIII-2 ? I mean they certainly would be for a "true" mainline FF, but how are they when compared e.g. to FF X-2 ?

I would say there is no comparison in my mine. This is absolutely a mainline FF. Huge bomb..but even still, I think X-2 still did like 1.5 million. (this has probably been answered 30 times by now)

Coupling bomba prices and high stock it'll actually probably have less drop than normal.

?
What did they do wrong with this game? Little Battlers did solid numbers and they're promoting this game with a movie. Unless I'm missing something I don't see what they could've done to make this game do better.

quit making a god damned game for every series every year. they put little battlers extra out only 6 months after the first one released. they are becoming the epitome of brand fatigue.

I've been playing FF9 again recently. After FF13 and FF14 (and really ever since FF10), I wonder what ever happened to that talent.

And if they really plan to continue down the MMORPG route, they are going to have to suck it up and either bring in some expertise from the US or South Korea (NCSoft).

Holy fuck at FFXIII-2. Guess Japan wasn't having it after the POS first game.

3DS is dominating now. And to think people actually doubted a Nintendo handheld. XD

DQVIII had a more charming story to be honest. It also was turn based which is quite better than XII battle system.

However, I believe the most similar part is that both are not dependent on story and has lots of side quests (DQ IX had at least)

That did not answer my question at all.

Actually, what are we talking about here?

Is there no pie chart for this week?

No. This is an even dumber theory now than it was before.

Versus has a ton of stuff stacked against it. It is guaranteed to sell less well than what we think of as the "norm" for "mainline FF" for reasons that Nirolak laid out earlier. It is also, at this stage, very unlikely to ship in a polished, well-regarded state.

If they rename Versus to XV (rather than just dropping the XIII, which is a wise move at this stage) they're just admitting complete failure: that, faced with two consecutive disasters (in XIV and XIII-2) the best they can do is take a vaporware title that can't show off game footage five years after its reveal and try to pass it off as a real FF. It's like sending out a press release that just says "guess what, we gave up!"
I just wanna make it clear that I'm talking about rebranding Versus as XV as long as it pass whatever the fuck quality tests are needed. And considering it's basically Kingdom Hearts without the Disney I don't think the actionRPGness of it will be alienating to FF fans.

I miss the the Cheesemeister sales thread that has the game cover icons of the top 5 games of the week. Its very cool to look at. I am wondering what it will look if it has this week sales thread. Consider it my Christmas wish list in GAF, and who could forget the ALL NINTENDO TOP 10 AND TOP 20.

70k was just something I pulled out of my ass. My general statement is that it won't come close to the original Strikers.

Okay. I totally wasn't around for the whole XIII-2 bomb reveal. Holy crap. That's what you get for driving Matsuno crazy. Even hacked to pieces, XII was a great damn game and should have been a template for future titles in the series.

Japan is a pretty fucked up place in general though with their game taste.

That's not really a fair thing to say. When I look at the US charts, I'm not exactly overwhelmed by the game selection either but I don't think it is fucked up. It's just not what appeals to me.

I think that FF132's failure might not so much be a reflection of the death of the Final Fantasy brand, as it is this is the best the PS3 userbase can muster. Final Fantasy thrives from a balance of the dedicated and casual audiences. The PS3 certainly doesn't have the casual base like the PS2. This is made apparent by the lack of any PS3 title with the legs needed to return to the Top 20.

The PS3 has a very dedicated core base that seems to buy in unison. The top 3 PS3 games in 2010 all sold in the same range, with other clusters of PS3 games showing up further down. 132 is now selling nearly identical to Xillia and both are basically inline the every other top-tier PS3 game ever released. I have a hard accepting that the series is doomed, when this game will likely end up being the #2-3 best selling game for the PS3 in Japan.

Except FF13 did fine.

I don't think the FF brand is dying - they just haven't made a good one since XII, and the public is fully aware of this. I'm sure Square Enix too will figure it out someday.
