Regulus Tera
Romanes Eunt Domus
Ikuhara is not GAINAX. Even so I'm sure I will shed tears.
You need to lurk the animu thread more:There's like zero chance of a CD of all the ending songs beyond the one for the first half, is there?
Did I miss something between episode 22 and 23?
Also, as usual, beautiful music.
Utena's ending was a lot more straightforward than this. lol
I have no idea what happened... it doesn't make sense... but the damn music got me! I couldn't believe it. THE FREAKING MUSIC MADE MY EYES TEARY! What Himari was saying in the last few minutes... then the message on the teddy bear... the little brothers... AND THE FREAKING MUSIC! :_(
I really love the Children of Fate theme, I can't say that enough.
Now... someone explain me what happened? D:
INow... someone explain me what happened? D:
You see there was this thing, and then these people they were there, and did this... and that... and erm.... penguins.
As much as I like the show, the more I look back at it the more I think it's less than the sum of its parts. For one, there are major problems with pacing. Why did we have eight consecutive episodes of Ringo development, only for her to end up disappearing into the background and doing a lot of nothing for the second half of the show? How come the major theme that the ending is based around wasn't explored until the last 10 or so episodes? Couldn't there have been more than a few hints here and there that Himari is more than a Mary Sue, perhaps exploring her cheeky and dominant side that was touched upon? Why did they bother with the Masako backstory episode, which was hilarious but completely unnecessary and irrelevant to the main thrust of the series? Why was it placed towards the end, at a point when the show really needed more development of Ringo, Himari, or perhaps Tabuki and Yuri? Their secret motivations were teased at a lot, but ended up being pretty unsatisfying in the scheme of things. There were also a bunch of surreal, intense scenes teasing at a mystery involving Masako and the League of Kanba's Disgruntled Ex-Girlfriends, but that turned out to be a huge red herring that lead nowhere. What about the Antarctic research expedition? And what about Mario and the split soul in hats? Totally irrelevant. Also, the show is way too reliant on false cliffhangers. There's a real 'shit just got real' feeling when Shoma is hit by a car, or the audience is lead to believe that Ringo will be raped, but these scenarios resolve themselves instantly, and totally unsatisfyingly, when we return to them. It turned out to be the plot just spinning its wheels, afraid to change up the status quo. The repetitive deaths and revivals of Himari exemplify this writing tendency best.Utena's ending was a lot more straightforward than this. lol
Not that I am hating on Penguindrum. I think the show ended up being greater than the sum of all its parts. I am gonna miss the Takakuras.

There's A LOT of padding and excess plot threads in this show. Part of me wishes that Ikuhara had made two 12 episode series instead: one being a straight comedy about a crazy girl and a weak willed boy going on surreal adventures, and the other a magical realist piece about the ties of family. The series is almost neatly split that way anyway, and at least each series would have more cohesion.
But despite all my griping, the show remains brilliant on an episode by episode basis.

Tell you one thing I was expecting...
The terrorists to be the children from the Child Broiler.

Good answer. She was the first one saved.
Oh my god this is the most adorable attempt to explain the plot that I've seen.
Spoilers for the whole series, naturally: http://imgur.com/owd19
Previously I thought on it more as an ill-fated fruit of life, than a fruit of fate 'per se';the idea of a diminishing fruit of fate makes no sense thus making the whole thing nonsensical
making friends/family should be a growing apple not a dividing one

We should be the ones grateful for this... I love it, thank you Defuser! After 6 months, I've finally finish Mawaru GaijinDrum. It's a fun ride watching this show and thinking what to make for this but nonetheless I've finish it. Thank you GAF for inspiring me to do this. Mawaru GaijinDrum Final.

does anyone know the name of the song used during thein ep 24? or has it not been released yet?fate transfer
Screw Children of Fate, THAT's the best song in the show
It's basically a vocal/remixed Children of Fate version. Loved it.
Sorry for the bump, but I figured some people would be interested. The song finally has a name: The children of fruit and destiny

Another vocal version got released as well (exactly what it plays in the last scene, if I remember correctly).
