Media Create Sales: Week 52, 2011 {2011.12.26 - 2012.01.01}

Of course Monhun will come out for the vita. I hardly doubt that just because the game will be available on the 3DS means that it will stick to one portable system only. Capcom knows that once the system reaches a couple million units there is a market for it long term :p

so if there is a smoke, there is a fire...?

Meh that pamphlet posted in the other thread is clearly a quick job done by some clueless PR person. There's still that Nikkei trendy rumour, but I doubt we'll see if it's true or not soon.

But we would do it. So please, as a long time sales-age lover, and a GAF friend, I ask you to reconsider.

I do understand but maybe this is just a one-time occasion. Overall, I do much look forward to his comments in these threads. His comments are much different from the rest of the blurb we got lately, which fills with joy a large crowd of aficionados, inculding me. If he really disproves the vontent of such comments, which again were numerous those past five weeks, then I'd reconsider replying to them, and thus, feeding them.

In addition, he is immortal thanks to his cvx-girl. And I like him.
Much.

There's been a lot of smoke in both Japan and the US regarding an MH on Vita, but we still haven't seen if there's a fire, or just a smoke machine.

Define "a lot of smoke". The only "smoke" I've seen so far is:

-- The "unnamed dev" in Nikkei Trendy who said they believed MH Vita would happen in late 2012, and;
-- The "Monster Hunter Portable 3" listing in the US pamphlet.

Is that it?

Nah, he's done this before. :p

I like him, but the OMG I WAS OFFENDED/PEOPLE DON'T LIKE WHAT I'M SAYING SO I'M GOING TO THREATEN TO LEAVE UNTIL EVERYONE BEGS ME TO STAY type of posts are offensive universally. I don't care whether it's a new dude, or a long time gaffer, or a friend of mine, don't do shit like this because it's annoying and attention whoring.

So, this is out of the blue, but I've decided to stop posting in sales threads from now on. There are reasons for this decision; I've decided that it's better to stay quiet about these things from now on. I honestly had no idea certain opinions, whether mine or not, actually bothered certain people, so I'd rather not contribute to such animosity in the future.

It's been fun, but it's time to move on.
What? Isn't Schadenfreude the only reason to post and read Sales-Age?

For thos of you that use Garaph fairly often, how do you use the keyword "NOT LIKE" in your searches ?
I wanted to see how many third-party games sold above 200k on Wii :

Code:
SELECT * FROM (SELECT SoftwareInfo.GameID as GameID, SoftwareInfo.Platform as Platform,
SoftwareInfo.Publisher as Publisher, SoftwareInfo.TitleEnglish as TitleEnglish,
SoftwareInfo.TitleJapanese as TitleJapanese, SoftwareInfo.ReleaseDate as ReleaseDate,
SoftwareInfo.LaunchPrice as LaunchPrice, MAX(SoftwareWeekly.SalesLTD) as SalesLTD,
 MAX(SoftwareWeekly.Week) as AsOf

FROM SoftwareInfo, SoftwareWeekly

WHERE SoftwareInfo.GameID = SoftwareWeekly.GameID
 AND SoftwareInfo.Publisher [B]NOT LIKE[/B] 'nintendo'
 AND SoftwareInfo.Platform LIKE 'Wii'

GROUP BY SoftwareInfo.GameID

ORDER BY SalesLTD DESC) FirstTable

WHERE SalesLTD > 200000

I eventually got the results by highlighting all occurrences of Nintendo in the result table with a Ctrl+F to filter by sight all thirs-parties but there must be a proper way to do it with SQL (there are 16 3rd party games that have sold more than 200k on Wii so far).

the 3DS turn around has to be one of the most impressive in history. from nintendo is doomed to the biggest sales month in history in such a short time. wow.

I am not actually sure if it’s been mentioned, so I am not going to, but there will be a launch title for the platform. And then we will do Street Fighter vs Tekken, and at least two others. I am sure you can guess what one of them has to be, considering the success in Japan."

-- Capcom listing PlayStation Buttons on their online manual for Tri G, which could be an honest mistake, terrible trolling, or maybe a hint (I'm likely to say honest mistake/trolling).

-- Pre-TGS rumors pointing towards MHP3rd HD being announced but wasn't. It was one of the few Pre-TGS rumors that hasn't happened.

-- "Monster Hunter on Vita" appearing on web store listings, to even an event SCE Hong Kong was going to be at. SCE HK did say that was a mistake, and webstores have put up products that don't exist in the past.

Tri G was in development for 3DS in December 2010. No point in releasing Tri G if you aren't going to get another one as well. Everything I mentioned took place in 2011.

A 6-month-old interview with Reeves hinting at Monster Hunter - pre-TriG/MH4 announcements - is interesting, but not something I'd put too much trust in now.

I wouldn't be surprised if something MH-related ended up on Vita, but there really is very little "smoke" so far.

And most likely so was a Vita version - until Nintendo probably came along and secured an exclusive, timed or otherwise.

It's a masterstroke really, as it pretty much kills the Vita in two fell swoops - the 3Ds price cut and securing Monster Hunter as exclusive. If 10-15 years from now we do find out it was all Nintendo's doings, then I have to hand it to the house of Mario - they really were wickedly smart.

This particular rumor is really interesting because it's a very specific set of rumors ranging across several publishers and franchises. They also contain pretty specific details which indicates that someone definitely knew what was going on in those announcements.

Out of the entire set of rumors (all from the same source) the only one which definitely did not happen is an announcement for MHP3HD on Vita. The only other rumor in the set which is not confirmed is Bayonetta 2 and the Bayonetta CG film. While they have not been announced, it does not mean they do not exist.

The conclusion we can draw from this is that Capcom was at some point planning on announcing MHP3HD on Vita at TGS, but decided against it.

Doesn't this happen a lot with these kinds of rumors?
Developers pull or cancel stuff last minute?

I do wonder why they decided against it, barring this was true.
Was it because of Nintendo or simply not wanting to steal thunder from Tri G?

MHP3HD was surely in development for Vita because Reeves hinted at it and there was also that pre-TGS leaked list.

When Capcom woke up one day and received the big truck full of money/decided that MH4 was going to the 3DS, they most likely canceled the game. Maybe because there's a contract in place and there cannot be another non-3DS portable MH until a certain date or because it didn't make sense to release the game one week after MH3G.

Yes: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=442135

It is also the first rumor which indicated that there would be a MH3G on the 3DS. The rumor set itself is older than the thread, originating some time in June or July I believe. Ignore the Persona stuff at the bottom, since it comes from another source.

Tri being Wii-exclusive didn't stop Portable 3rd from being released on both PSP, and PS3. I have a feeling Nintendo may have bought the "main" Monster Hunter line, where as Sony might just be getting the Portable series. As the Portable series is based on the main games Nintendo would have the benefit of having first crack at new content.

I don't think splitting the franchise like that on 2 handhelds is a good idea, nor do I think an MH on Vita post 3DS games will do anything, but I believe it's possible.

Hmmm... but releasin MHP 3rd HD for Vita and Tri G on 3DS in the same time frame doesn't sound that smart...did Capcom really planned it that way ? I think with every month they wait now it makes less sense to announce a Vita MH at all - i know its pretty early, but the damage is already done. A Launch MH game or even an announcements would have made big difference.. but now, when Tri G will likely to sell +2 Million and 4 bein announced on 3DS, i don`t know if a Vita MH is necessary to reach their goals with the franchise.

Yes, this sound like Capcom indeed. But MHP 4th when the main series is already on a handheld sounds kinda stupid. I could see them putting MH Frontier on Vita though, supporting online Play via 3G. Or at least an MMO-like experience/spin-off type of title.

Also seeing how high Dragon Dogma is on the Famitsu Most Wanted charts, i wouldnt be surprised if a Vita version of the title would perform well in Japan.

Can't people transfer the PSP version onto the Vita already though? One of the developments near the Vita launch was the reveal of the UMD transfer feature, so maybe that's why Capcom never followed through with MHP3G Vita.

I think that Capcom realized that making MHP3rd for Vita wouldnt bring huge sales if the graphics were just improved. Unless they sold it for a give-away price, but there isnt much profit in that. It would also be the 3rd release of the same game.

I'm wondering what this year's MH game will be. If MH3 is anything to go by, then MH4 wont be out this year.

I have no idea. I was just looking at the pre-TGS rumor and combining it with this Nikkei Trendy rumor. If it isn't an HD version of 3rd then I don't know what else it would be. I don't know enough about MH to guess future installments.

It seems they've started doing this sales updates much more frequently with 3DS gearing up. In fact, in a row, we had:

MK7: best debut, and hardware result
MH3G: NEW best debut and hardware result
A 390.000 figure which came out not from Famitsu directly, IIRC, but the number is Enterbrain
The 4 million mark, with hardware figures and the 2 million sellers

IE Go probably picked up this week due to the New Year's Money, as well as lots of games, especially on Wii and 3DS.

Hehe true. 3rdG wouldnt surprise me much actually to be honest. Unless MH4 have been in development for a really long time, then i dont think that it will be released this year. And i dont think that Capcom will rely on TriG and MHP3rd for yet another year.

Tri being Wii-exclusive didn't stop Portable 3rd from being released on both PSP, and PS3. I have a feeling Nintendo may have bought the "main" Monster Hunter line, where as Sony might just be getting the Portable series.

It's not like there's a "Portable" series that's a distinct, separate thing from just being remixed series entries on a portable system. If they were going to do a Vita game, it wouldn't have Portable in the title (since, y'know, the system doesn't either) and it wouldn't have the same relationship to the 3DS titles that the PS2 and PSP titles had to one another.

It's certainly not plausible at all that Nintendo paid for the series but got a meaningless deal where just sticking the word "Portable" behind the title would let Capcom release it on their competitor system. If Nintendo arranged an exclusivity deal here, it's not going to have that kind of loophole.

I've spoken to cvxfreak about it. Its a decision that he has made this time for personal reasons. He's not leaving NeoGAF, he's just not going to post (much?) on Media Create threads anymore. I respect his reasons, and it's probably for the best.

Thanks Vinnk for the Village Report come back !!!

Please reconsider...

Maybe cvxfreak won't see or respond to this but what is this post referencing? I post in most sales threads and didn't realize there were any grudges, or arguments or conflicts outside of the normal stuff. Has there been some kind of underlying conflict in sales threads that I've been unaware of?

A lot of Sony fans, Nintendo haters and ultimately Biohazard haters !!!

As long as I remember, at least one time in the Media Create thread. And effectively it is annoying but impartial reports and impressions from Japan are not so numerous in these threads.

We thought the same about Segata Sanshiro.
Then a Sony terrorist nuked him out from the face of the planet ;_;

I miss him a lot...

Let's go back to sales. Concerning Vita, are we seeing a new variation of an old bullshit (PS3 times)?

"Wait until the rumored Monster Hunter game..."
