Based on low japanese reception, Sony France is reported to launch Vita with 40K units instead of 80K as previously planned:

I have this strange urge to buy some of these outlying no-way-it-sells-more-than-25k-copies Vita games.
@field in particular.
After looking it up, having asked about it in the Japanese box art thread, it seems to be a mini-golf/pinball game played in that psuedo-Space-Channel-5-minimalist-technicolor-retrofuture-space...and that appeals to my more eccentric side.

Congrats to turning me on to this game :) I'd seen the box art around here, but didn't know what the game was about. Now that I know, I actually want a damn Vita and a copy of this game. Guess I'll wait until the NA Vita hits the bargain bins and then I'll import a copy from Jana (since you KNOW it won't be released in NA).

Anyway, speaking of this game -- Sega's @Field -- does anyone know where I can find a video of it? Also, when will it be released in Japan?

Vita's going to have a hard time in Japan until Sony somehow mans up and shows that it's a reliable product. Sure, the failure rate's probably not nearly as bad as what the internet might make it seem, but there's still an alarming number of people complaining about it on the web, and you also have quite a few notable people -- Mihara from Arika, Takahashi meijin, several authors and voice actors -- mentioning they had or are having problems as well, which adds to the credibility of more anonymous failure reports. Once there's a few games I want for the system I'll have no problems buying it here in the states since Wallyworld/Target would have 0 problems with returns/exchanges within 3 months, over in Japan things don't go nearly as smooth, and it's not surprising that a lot of people are giving it a wait-and-see for the time being.

It wasn't the only thing that killed it but 360 in Japan never really got up from the RRoD fiasco, and if cards are played in all the wrong ways a similar situation could occur here as well.

17./24. [NDS] One Piece: Gigant Battle 2 - New World # <FTG> (Bandai Namco Games) {2011.11.17} (¥5.230) - 18.789 / 290.002

So One Piece will do 300k, anyone got numbers on how this franchise has performed in the past? 300k seems like a good number for them but Im not to sure.

I'm not entirely convinced that vita ever will reach where 3ds is now

Don't be ridiculous.

i wasn't sure about that one, only thing i could remember was Resi 5 doing incredibly well. whats the prediction for RE, 400-500k?

I highly highly highly doubt RE:R for 3DS hits 400k. Most of the titles in the next 3 months for 3DS are 100k - 300k type of games, which are very healthy and normal. Not everything is, or has to be a blockbuster type of title. I think folks are getting a little to excited. RE is not going to put up shocking numbers.

Don't be ridiculous.

why would vita selling only 4.5 million lifetime be ridiculous, i'm not saying that it definately will sell that little just that so far there's nothing to suggest to me so far that a gamecube style disaster isnt a noticable possibility

I dunno, you have to imagine that simple demographics will give the Vita at least enough steam to avoid that type of disaster. Handhelds are hot in Japan.

08./09. [WII] Wii Party <ETC> (Nintendo) {2010.07.08} (¥4.800) - 33.174 / 2.256.803 (+45%)
09./08. [WII] Kirby's Return to Dream Land <ACT> (Nintendo) {2011.10.27} (¥5.800) - 33.040 / 570.168 (+37%)
10./11. [WII] Wii Sports Resort with Remote Plus <SPT> (Nintendo) {2010.11.11} (¥5.800) - 30.783 / 833.757 (+54%)
11./13. [WII] Go Vacation <ETC> (Bandai Namco Games) {2011.10.20} (¥5.800) - 26.852 / 208.017 (+39%)
12./12. [WII] Mario Kart Wii <RCE> (Nintendo) {2008.04.10} (¥5.800) - 26.346 / 3.474.659 (+36%)

Is this normal? Why such huge bumps on the Wii games?

Go Kirby!

Nintendo takes 8/10 of the top 10. Good grief, Nintendo is killing it.

RE is not going to put up shocking numbers.

i thought it could profit from all the new 3DS costumers that played SM3D and Kart over the holidays and are now looking for a new game. RE is the next big title, sort of like Alice in Wonderland did great after Avatar.

RE should do okay but its KH 3D that has a chance of blowing up after the critical and popular success of BBS.

I just have a lot of trouble thinking the Vita will do significantly worse than the already terribly-performing PS3.
How exactly is PS3 perform terrible now?

Also, PS3 is an HD console; making a game for an HD device is practically like making one for all of them. (if you mean Japan only, I believe the gap between PS3 and Wii is much more than PSV and 3DS; hence the wall that separated games on PS3 to be mostly on Wii, doesn't exist)

Well, the memory cards did sell well for the Vita, so it makes sense that the hardcore crowd are playting their PSP games on the Vita and not buying Vita games.

Or downloaded Vita games as well.

re: MH tears - bored of seeing me post this myself : Made prediction at least made on logic albeit faulty, not an unreasonable prediction. Was wrong. Game sells great. What exactly would i be crying about? I'm happy it sold well. I don't think i'm going to be shedding any tears about a wrong prediction.

just kidding man! :D it is just fun to poke

I made an assessment of its entire life cycle, not just now. Not that the PS3 is performing fantastically even now.
sorry, I understood shortly and addressed that in my edit.

it's all good - i expected it but X months of it? I guess that's the internet. I am forever the person who refused to believe that MH would sell more than 800k #sadpredicto

wait until i post my predictions for the Vita version! ;)

More like they got a Monster Hunter game.

more like they have a brilliant price point, two awesome -and cheap- first party games, and Monster Hunter.

Also - for those interested in JGAF, Inubomba (both versions) is 3680 yen in Chameleon Club in their new years sale. Seems to be discounted at quite a few places. I have no idea if the 300k figure is inline with expectations or not.

Not ONE Vita game in the top 20 :lol What are they playing on it? psp games I guess but don't you have to download them

You do know there hasn't been a single Vita game release since launch, right? Did you expect Uncharted, and Hot Shots - two games below the top 20 last week to suddenly rise into it this week?

Maybe when you're selling 45k+ in hardware? But considering #20 is at 15,000 units, that's probably a pretty tall order.

I don't think Vita will see as big of a drop as other hardware next week (especially not the Wii anyway). I'm thinking 26-28k. Not great, but I just don't see it tumbling to <20k yet.

It's really boring. The logic was sound and the argument was made in good faith and for a series of reasons, I agreed with your thoughts and backed them up thinking they made sense. We were wrong, big deal.

Like Dcharlie, I'm a big fan of Monster Hunter (and a sad one given I don't speak Japanese and 3rd doesn't get released out of Japan) and I'm happy it does well. One of the main reasons I bought a Wii was to play Tri, and one of the main reasons I will buy a 3DS is for Monster Hunter 4.

And yes, the 3DS sales are really impressive, can't be said enough.

I never had a problem with the logic. The logic was sound, it made sense. The ultimate conclusion you drew from that logic was the problem people had!

Really though, I think people are just poking fun. You had to expect that would happen making a wildly dissenting exact prediction that turned out to be completely wrong. It happens. Hell, I thought the 3DS would have no problem selling boatloads at $250.

yup - i expect it ultimately. I just hope everyone whooping it up will be there -day and date- when MH gets released in the West. :D

I just want to give a shout out to Sho_Nuff82 who made this claim:

Can 13-2's legs explain this PS3 hardware surge?

Vita will finally sell out its launch shipment (in February).

I tried to tell him how it was basically impossible for Vita to hit February without selling through the initial shipment, but man didn't listen.

I wonder what Capcom's expectation is for TriG LTD. That 1.2m expectation is only for the first fiscal year, no?

Just like the PS3 would end up selling pretty much the same as the Gamecube LTD? ;)

At one point that seemed like a very distinct possibility obviously not now, however at least ps3 had definate system selling games announced for it, does vita? Yes there is always the possibility of another come out of nowhere hit like MH happening again though its probably more likely to happen on 3ds anyway

No one know 100% for sure, but i just dont think there is much use to predict ~5 million LTD at this point due to so many unknown factors that we havnt seen yet. That is why i mentioned the PS3, since it was done with that console and we know that prediction was wrong. I think that a 7-8 million LTD for PSP was also predicted back in the days. And not to mention the more recent 3DS predictions some months ago.

IMHO it will be interesting to see how the Wii U will affect Vita. As many players use their portable mainly at home a Wii U might be the better offer for them (if priced right).

The last factor here is simply too unpredictable to try and predict. I'm not sure why the 3DS would be more likely this time round given the blue print that's pulled them out of their slump was Mario, Mario Kart and Monster Hunter.

We just don't know what is coming - this year will be fairly telling and the idea that we had to have every single Vita game announced within a month of launch isn't particularly realistic. Case in point : no one knew jack shit about MH 3DS until way after the 3DS launch.

People need to relax and enjoy the ride. Vita is a great machine with a great line up so far - at least to me, but hey, right now Japan doesn't agree too much. Oh and parts of GAF. No biggie.
