Whatcha Been Playin': Backlog Burner Edition

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers

I moved my Wii back down stairs. It was part of a plan get Majora's mask over my Ethernet cord, but I ended up finding my wireless key and getting it that way. Seeing as I had it hooked up, I took some time to play FF. The combat is hard to control in this game, and something I didn't know was that there was a time limit on clearing out enemies. Seeing as I have yet to level up, I'm not to concerned with killing them all. This game is a slow burn for me.

Modern Warfare 3

I still haven't used up all my double XP time and I'm close to my first prestige. I switched things up and grabbed a level one weapon and had a really fun time running around with it. It helped keep things fresh, and I was unlocking things again. The grind for a gold gun is almost too hard to push though. It reminds me of hell levels in EQ.

For this pic, I had killed another guy, switched to a machine pistol, totally missed, and turned a corner to knife him before I could reload. I don't know if both guns have to be empty to get this, but it was a bad ass get.

Dragon Ball Z Ultimate Tenkaichi

I redid the Super Attack training and found out it only took pressing down on the right stick. Now I am grinding out some training with Yamcha. At early levels it just consists of beating the crap out of his face and getting a stat bonus at the end. I might try out the regular story mode next week so I can get a taste of some of the super powers.

Super Mario 3D Land
When I reached the 8th world I decided to go back and get more coins. So far I have fully completed 3 worlds. My biggest highlight of this week is when my 1 year old son grabbed the game and was jumping Mario off the ledge because all he could do was push down on the circle pad and press buttons. I was so proud of him (I switched it off 3D as soon as he had it).

There’s nothing new out this week. No big releases. No incredible sales. For many of us, our backlogs have been keeping us warm. My gaming has reached a very relaxed state, but I still want to know, “Whatcha Been Playin’?”

Got a PS2 recentlyy so I've been playing a lot of older games.

Onimusha 2
GTA Vice City
Dragon Quest 8

Also,
Resistance 3
Castevania Dawn of Sorrow

I bought this game in '99 and after numerous starts, restarts, stops, and long breaks of either not having my N64 or just not feeling like playing it, I finally finished this game for the first time.

GG! When I beat that game for the first time, the connection on my N64's cable loosened so the entire final battle was played on the flickering screen. I just thought that the ending was so epic that it was messing with my TV on purpose.

I'm finally working my way through the Layton series. The Curious Village had a clever ending although the puzzles were a bit wonky IMO.

Saints Row The Third.

Never played a Saints Row game before this one, grabbed it on a whim during a Best Buy sale a couple weeks ago and just threw it onto the backlog that seems to be growing exponentially.

This game is amazing, really just the best kind of pure unfiltered fun. Reminds me of everything I loved about the old GTA games with basically none of the crap from 4. Might also have the best usage of licensed music in any video game I've ever played.

Just got the game, 3 hours in, loving it.

Football Manager 2012

The only game which is always in my ''whatcha been playing'' posts, accepted a job offer from Newcastle United, hoping to get them to the top of the Premier League.

Battlefield 3

Enjoying MP with friends.

Rage (PS3) - Been too busy during the week, so I'm going to try to get back into this now that I have some free time.

Been playing alot of Katawa Shoujo on my laptop. Early contender for (free) Game of the Year.

Hardly played anything on my Wii since New Year, just a few games of Table Tennis in Wii Sports Resort.

Star Wars: The Old Republic - I'm not a hardcore MMO guy at all, but I do love this game. Feels like the perfect blend of the original KOTOR and WOW. Having a fully voiced story makes all the difference in the world.

Assassin's Creed Revelations (PC) - Seems to run much better for me than Brotherhood and ACII. I've been giving the mouse and keyboard controls a shot instead of hooking up a 360 controller. The m/k work surprisingly well. The changes to the notoriety system and the addition of bombs made a bigger difference to the way I play than I had anticipated. Although I'm not a fan of the Tower Defense addition at all… I hope I'm not forced to do these too much.

With FFXIII-2 coming soon, I've been considering on continuing with my FFXIII playthrough. However, it's been so long since I've played it (1 year +) that I'll have to relearn everything about the battle system. Fortunately I stopped at chapter 11, so I think I'll have the time to wander around gran pulse to reacquaint myself with the core mechanics.

Wanna hear a good joke? Waste your time helping me! LOL!
Going through the MGS series for the first time, Currently playing:

It's pretty bad as far as stealth goes, and the story is about as dumb as it gets from my experience so far (MGS2 only. MGS1 wasn't that bad). Got more interesting once I got to the Fatman fight.

Just finished it last night. The backlog burner topic title is fitting as I just tore through this game. Finished it on Hard at a completion percentage of 28%, the lowest I've ever done in a Yakuza game (I've 100%ed parts 1 & 2). I'm probably going to try to at least complete all the substories in Premium Adventure Mode before moving on.

That picture reminds me that I still have a playthrough of yakuza 3 I haven't quite finished (I think I'm at chapter 9) and a copy of Yakuza 4 that I haven't even started. woops :p

For my first MGS game, this is incredibly good. I love how it's broken up into small missions that's perfect for quick sessions. The mechanics are great as well. I know a little bit about the overall MGS story, so I'm not completely lost on the story.

Uncharted 3: Really enjoying this game so far. Very refreshing after having come off Skyrim. I'm playing 3 or 4 chapters in a sitting and it's been really great so far and that seems like the perfect amount for me. I'm on chapter 14. I hope to get close to the end this weekend but I have a Christening to go to on Sunday and then the Giants game is gonna take up the rest of that day so we'll see.

Somewhere around 30% done.

street-fighter.jpg

Bought this on Steam during the holiday sale. I could be completely satisfied with this game even if I never ventured outside of Challenge mode.

Resistance-3.png

The one non-PC game I've been playing a significant amount of. Unfortunately I may have to go back to console gaming for a bit until I fix a major problem with my desktop at home.

I've been playing Deus Ex HR and NBA 2K12. I've absolved myself from Deus Ex though, it is just a boring game and I can't push myself to play it anymore. So I will pull another game from my backlog pile to play over the weekend.

Trying to do some serious damage to my backlog. So after last week where I platinum'd Ico HD (Amazing) I started Uncharted 3 which I finished my first Playthrough of today on normal. The game is awesome and after a rather slow start it picks up and there are so many great moments. Is it better than Uncharted 2? No, but it's still amazing.

In between that I've been playing some more Mario Kart 7 and I started Forza 4, which is absolutely stunning.

Chapter 9-12 are basically a roller coaster you can barrel through if you really want. Use the reminisce option at a hideout to recap old cutscenes if you forgot the plot.

I've had all the U.S.-released Yakuza games since their respective release days. I only just got to Yakuza 2 a few months ago, and just got through 3 this week. I've still got Yakuza 4 on tap, and I have a copy of Kenzan coming eventually.

Great series!

Right, backlog burning:
- Xenoblade Chronicles: 13 hours in. Damn it, not even played 1/4 of the game lol (and I mostly did only the main quests). So far, the story is starting to get interesting, but I don't like the characters so much (outside of Fiora and Dunban), I don't know why.
- Tales of the Abyss (3DS): Just at the beginning, only a few hours in. Pretty good game so far.
- Tactics Ogre: Let us cling together (PSP): Very good game, but isn't it hard ! Will surely have to grind a little to get further in the story.

After about three weeks of playing nothing but Skyrim, I've finally put it down. Going to be working my way through Saints Row 3 and Rayman this weekend.

Playing:

Trinity: Souls of Zill O'll
Nothing really amazing about the game, but I can't stop playing it.

Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift
I'm addicted. I've completed 117 missions and I'm still not bored. I'm really enjoying developing my characters.

King's Bounty: Legend
I find this game to be relaxing, so this is what I play when I want to just take it easy.

SuperMeatBoy_cover.png

Just unlocked the kid. It took me a long time and was very hard... and now I have carpal tunnel syndrome from it.... but I did it!

Now that I finally beat Saint's Row: The Third I have time to tackle some games I've been meaning to get around to. I finally started Batman Arkham City and Dead Island. I continued playing Modern Warfare 3 online and my FIFA 12 career. I really need to jump back into Skyrim too.

I started with Skyward but then I hopped to Twilight Princess which I still had not finished. Story is I almost finished it but then my Wii memory broke and had to buy new one. All saves were gone of course but yesterday I finally finished it. 110h+ hrs and 1 broken wii later it feels pretty accomplishment. Next Skyward and then finish extras on Batman AC...

Still have SOTC, Folklore, Darksiders, Killzone3.

I don't even want to start looking my list on Steam.

I downloaded the game last night off of the Wii's virtual console. It will be my first time playing Majora's Mask and I'm excited to see what makes it so special.

Well my backlog is down to just Resonance of Fate. My friend is borrowing it so I'll need to wait before I can work on it. I'm free to play whatever I want until he gives it back.
