OC that thing!

(currently my i5 2500k at 4.2Ghz)

I talked to him about this last night as well, Dell doesn't put a very big PSU in these things, so how would I know how high I can take it without damaging the system?

Waiting on TOR to d/l these 14 or so gigs of updates is pretty lame. Wish I had a physical copy now. :|

Well I took my i5 to 4.2GHz without changing any voltage or anything. I would look up what you can set yours to without changing voltage (though I think all i5/i7's can go to 4.2 with ease)

I went with the XPS in the end.

-i7 3.4 GHZ 2600K processor
-Radeon 6770 card
-16 GB RAM

Eazy seemed to think it would do me good for a while, so I'm happy. The thing makes no noise, crazy coming from my old Alienware that sounded like a jet engine no matter what I was doing.

As for the MM experience being great with Halo 2, the MM in it was just as bad if not worse for a good portion of its life. SMG starts on BTB? OK!

Yeah that thing will last you for a while.

Halo 2's MM was no where near perfect, but I feel it was much better than 3 and Reach as it actually had gametypes and map combos that made sense and gametype settings per map.

I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to this stuff, will OCing just make everything run even faster, any other benefits or cons?

Yea, I mean I probably enjoyed Halo 2's the best as well, but I think a lot of that was just because the core game was better, and the maps were just extraordinarily good. I could count the bad maps on one hand, while I find it hard to need more than one hand for the good maps in 3/Reach.

Ya man OC that bitch. I took my 2500k to 4.3Ghz. However, I don't know what type of cooler that thing has on it and if it's a good idea to be overclocking with it. You'd probably have to test it out. For gaming though, he should be fine.

What PC games you gonna hop on first?

I also look forward to you shitting on console games when you're a complete PC snob like Eazy. :p

edit: LOL Halo 2 best MM experience to date? Probably the worst for me. RAMPANT CHEATING. I don't know how I put up with that shit back then

Well due to no extra voltage or really heat intake there are no cons besides MAYBE decresing the life of it to 7 years and not 10.

Other than that you will get better performance in games (things like AA will be less taxing on yours system)

It had it follies, notably early on (and one later being them not removing the Banshee in Ascension with rifles only on the map).

But it's gametypes, maps, and playlists are miles ahead of 3/Reach. I don't know how the popular gametype of 3 Plots and Assault got so shafted in in Halo 3, and how they constantly screwed up flag games. Granted part of the success of these modes are maps themselves, and when you have garbage like Construct, Foundry, Snowbound, Isolation, and Sandtrap, it's bound to get real ugly.

Frankie, can you clear this up from the MLG Halo community? yea I know you work for 343 but it's pretty close to MS.

Sundance tweeted:

If you wanna talk multiplayer that's fine but matchmaking? That's different.

What people are basing it on though (at least I am), is the playlists, gametypes, maps gametype-map combos that where for the most part, far superior in Halo 2 than in 3 or Reach.

Obviously cheating did happen (I feel like it didn't really happen to me that much).

Not sure how relevant this is to Sundance's tweet as I'm now sure who he's actually waiting to hear from, but 343 is not 'pretty close to MS', they are a part of Microsoft. 343 employees are MS employees.

Ok but it's hard for me to separate the experience and look at it alone. It's true though, back then, I played a bunch of playlists and customs. It was a good mix. I used to play MLG in customs, and in matchmaking I played Snipers, BTB, Team Hardcore, Team Slayer, Actionsack. Most of them. In Halo 3 I played Snipers, Slayer and eventually MLG exclusively. Now in Reach, it's been MLG 95% of them time. I do think there's great Halo out there to be found other than what MLG offers but I'm just not seeing it.

The cheating is such a large part of my Halo 2 experience though.

Anyone catch this short called Archetype? Several parts gives me Halo vibes. It looks bad ass either way. Hopefully it gets noticed and funded.
The beginning gave me big Halo vibes. Damn. It looks great.

Yeah, it's pretty sweet but a bit cheesy. Was meaning to post about this here and/or make a thread a couple of days back.

Combat part in the beginning, especially the FX, felt a lot like District 9.

Curse you Blomkamp! I will take joy in watching whatever else you release, but mark my words, I will remember.
I think it looks amazing. You have to consider that it didn't have a big budget behind it.

343i needs to go Dark Souls with credits, if you go negative in one game, you lose all of your credits, the only way to get them back is to go positive in the next game, if you go even or negative, they are gone forever.

Halo is made for casuals now. Not gonna happen.

Halo 5 to come with Fleshlight™ attachment that strokes your dilznick every time you pull the trigger.

I did not know this. Edited my post. Thanks!

The beginning gave me big Halo vibes. Damn. It looks great.

Just noticed that this thing is very District 9-y and Halo-y not just in appearance, but even in sound design. The music sounds like it was made partially with Pro Scores; that recurring percussive "chling" in the credits is one of several percussion hits that comes with it, and can also be heard as a recurring beat used in Reach's From The Vault track. Marty uses his fair share of public domain effects, orchestral and synthesized, in several of ODST and Reach's tracks. One of the more recurring sound effects of the RL7's HUD is a beeping sound that used to be very frequent in the Halo menu UIs, most notably Combat Evolved. So yeah, I could definitely see where people are getting the Halo vibes from

not to mention the instagib weapons the mechs seem to have. District 9's finale anyone?
