Pokémon Community Thread: Gotta Catch 'Em All!

You don't. The only way to make new friends is to send invites to the random people that appear on your dream pal map. Good luck running into anyone who actually uses Dream World...

This. I think I have ten dream pals and still I find it impossible to find berries to water. Even their friends' friends always have a fully watered garden ._.

By the way, any tips to get lots of dream points quickly?

My work starts at 8:30 and it is a 5 minute commute to work, so I eat breakfast and watch pokemon before I go to work for the last year. (There is nothing else on that I want to watch)
After watching most of DP and all of BW, Rival battles is just Ash getting curb stomped.

Why was I never told if you press start in 3rd gen double battles your health bar turn to numbers if you wanted to ?!?!?!?

Hah, never knew that RSE had that?

I found out when I was doing double battles and was trying to figure out how to get the numbers up.

"Hmm, I know they must've left some way to do it..."
*presses random buttons*
"Oh, that's cool."
*switches back*

I always thought that was weird. One of the more obvious game-y aspects of the series. At least the reason for high level/traded Pokemon not obeying made some kind of sense.

Nice. Right now I'm at a point where I can just sort of mow everything down with my Charizard ("Chizard"). I'm assuming that I'll get my ass kicked if I don't level everything up, but it's fun running around with your main lizard. I played until about midnight last night, woke up and hit FFXII. Between the two, I'm in RPG heaven!

Ah well I think your next gym match may force you to rely on Pokemon other than Charizard, I think.

I should really play FireRed one of these days.

The gym is blocked by some old fart. I'm pretty much just wandering through the weeds ATM. What are the random encounters like? In the areas I'm encountering the bug pokemon, will there ever be more than Wheedle or Caterpie?

It's actually easier if you focus on one Pokémon; the battle system works in such a way that if you have a large level advantage, you can just one-shot everything before it can hit you. The more Pokémon you train, the harder it is (as they'll all be relatively low-level).

Fortunately, they fixed it in Black/White by making it harder to train overleveled Pokémon and easier to train underleveled Pokémon; White was the first game in which I actually used more than three or four Pokémon throughout the game (I actually tried to use as many different Pokémon as possible; there's probably about 50 Pokémon in storage that have been used for 10+ levels each).

Derp. Nevermind. Metapod and Kakuna too.

EDIT: Okay, what the fuck. So, you've got like, 2 HP left, are freaking PARALYZED and you can break out of 2 pokeballs? GO TO HELL KAKUNA.

He who pursues two rabbits gets two rabbits.
I was raising 3-4 Pokemon at the start but quickly trimmed that down to 2 after one or two badges. Still seems to be the way to go, regardless of the modified EXP curve.

FireRed was way too easy, even after running away from random battles.
I dunno. I had a kind of hard time taking down Gary in the rematch if I hadn't focused on the team I wanted to use well ahead of time. Only Red was a harder battle in gen 4.

Playing black currently for the first time and iv self imposed a leveling challenge, basically im catching every wild pokemon in every area and leveling all my party to what i deem an acceptable level based on the area, if the gym leader has a lvl 25 for instance ill try and get my party to a 28-30.

Im frequently rotating my party to try and keep some conformity to my pokemon levels but honestly its gotten to be a pretty big task and iv only got the second badge. My ultimate goal is all 649 at lvl 100, (that means my all version of the evolution tree aswell). Obviously its an insane goal but its going to keep me playing black for a very long time.

As i said previously im using an action replay to catch pokemon that i cant catch naturally but im actually battling them and catching them im not using master balls or anything else and im keeping them at the same level as the wild pokemon in the area. So for example wild pokemon are around lvl 16 and thats how im catching the gen 1 starters.

All this talk about using as few Pokemon as possible has me wanting to restart my FireRed save and just use my starter. I usually use my starter solely until I find other Pokemon I want in my party but I've never played Pokemon with just one.

I need another copy. Platinum so I can do this with Chimchar

So, not to brag or anything guys but you're looking at the newest BOULDERBADGE owner. I know, I know. It's kind of a big deal.

Also, charmander went and evolved on me. Eat that, Westboro Baptist!

I've finished Red with just Charizard. No missingno.

It's been a while, though. I think I'll try it again soon, lol.

Lol, up until Emerald my basic pokemon playing strategy was
1) Use starter for all my battles
2) Get other pokemon for HMs
3) Catch Legendarys
4) Use them as back up in Elite 4 but mostly win/battle with starter
