OMG, the Circle Pad Pro feels GROSS!

Just got mine in the mail
Slapped it on and booted up the RE demo (Yet again)

...holy shit

This thing is nasty! =(

I was pretty excited about it, especially after that Eurogamer review (which i'm responsible for posting none the less).

In reality, it's an ergonomic nightmare. It feels like a bulbous tumor and to top it off, it REALLY makes me skeptical of the WiiU if the final is indeed going with slidepads.
They feel like total poopoo. Huge deadzone, overshooting constantly. No real sense of footing at all.

I mean, i'm a bit amused as I now I have this completely useless piece of plastic and it's sort of a novelty at this point, but man, what happend Nintendo =(

That's bad news. I was considering getting both a revised 3DS and a WiiU. Controlling the games with poopoo doesn't sound very nice.

At first it feels bulky and cumbersome. However, after a few hours of using it, it feels fine. It greatly improves the experience, especially with Resident Evil: Revelations.

As a person who has large hands, it is actually is more comfortable than playing the normal 3DS.

I find aiming with it in RE really hard. Use gyro controls instead, they work amazingly well.

I don't have any issue with the way the thing actually feels to hold though.

I could not agree with the op any less. I love the CPP. I wish the triggers worked in every game then I'd never take it off.

I've been curious to try one myself. Everytime I read something somewhat positive I turn around and find someone else giving it a negative review. I've pretty much accepted that it is simply going to be a necessary evil for us 1st gen 3DS owners, at least for a while. If you plan on playing Kingdom Hearts at least. You can totally skip out if you play Kid Icarus (unless you're a lefty... i guess?) or RE.

Your ability to express your opinion articulately astounds me. Perhaps you should consider a writing career?
Or do books feel like poopoo too?

For it to be as ass-ugly as it is, you'd think it'd be perfectly ergonomic. Sad to hear that's not the case for all.

I've been really on the fence now about this item, $20 for it....hmm.

What's making me hold out is not just a handful of negative impressions, but the thought that I should just save that $20 and put it towards the 3DSLite when it comes out.

I love using it. As the Eurogamer reviewer said, I wish it didn't exist, but it works very well in RE: Revelations and it's comfortable past the first session. It's only when I realize that one of my fingers is in a weird position while holding it when it feels unconfortable :lol

I have played Revelaitons for over thirty hours with the CPP and cannot agree with anything you say.

It felt odd at first but it wasn't long before I adjusted. Now I wouldn't want to have to play it sans CPP.

You want a thorough critique, hit up that review I posted from Eurogamer, okay?

I wanted to throw a gut-reaction out there. That's it.

Why have you just now discovered your problem with Slidepads? I mean the 3DS has one as well, it should come as no surprise how that part feels of the CPP.

I don't get why when one person dislikes something that most seem to like, their opinion is a decider or holds a lot of weight.

Not saying this thread swayed you but of course SOMEONE is going to be negative about it.

I'd go with the majority or moreso try to try one out myself.

With that all said though, I have no interest in the add-on.

I'll never understand why no one copied the NGPC's stick for their portable system. That thing is heaven sent for analogue controls.

I've only had a brief play of RE with the circle pad pro but yeh, it's pretty bad. Its centre of gravity feels totally off, and your middle fingers should rest 'below' and back from the top shoulder buttons, but instead they sit forward, further away from you. Very odd.

I imagine the OP has become very accustomed to the feel of the 3DS on its own, and this enormous attachment is a shock to the system. Of course it's going to feel weird.

Here's the thing, I think the slidepad is pretty damn functional ...in regards to movement. Hadn't really used one before when it came to directly aiming. At least not with my right thumb.

Nintendo's slide pads feel awful. Main reason why I don't want to buy a 3DS.

Is the pad on the CP Pro any worse than the one on the unit?

I see, so it's alright for movement but it sucks for aiming. I can see that. I didn't even like it all that much for movement which is why I can follow your concerns for the WiiU.

It's the exact same pad, sans the weardown that the console's main slidepad might have had already.

But I agree with what you said about the general functionality of the slidepad. I'd rather use PSP's face buttons for aiming rather than that craptacular gizmo.

Gee, and it seemed like such a good idea on paper...

oh, wait...

People hated on the PSPgo layout but I swear by that thing. Most comfortable handheld I've ever used thus far (still waiting on my Vitamin)
Love my PSPgo(s), even with only one analog nubbly... It's a GBMicro for the NextGen™...

I'll never understand why no one copied the NGPC's stick for their portable system. That thing is heaven sent for analogue controls.
Well, it could have something to do with the fact that the NGPC stick is digital... It's brilliant for pocket fighters, but it's not an analog stick by any stretch...

The 'slidepad' is horrible on the 3DS, and I'm sure it will be on the uPad, but hopefully given the traditional buttons on there, the Classic Controller Pro will work on most WiiU games, then we're golden.

Hyperbole? Would you honestly rather use face buttons than the slide pad?

Dual analog controls are a joke and have been holding back gaming for years. Play with the gyro controls, you'll have a much better experience with them.

Sorry, your name is just too perfect for this thread.

The thing about it is there's no recourse in taking it back. I want to be sure that I like it before I buy it, and if I hate it (like the OP or others have stated) then I'm out money on it.

I would. I've played a lot of PSP shooters to feel the difference with the groinshot slidepad.

In all honesty, even the PSP first series' trackpad was built better than the 3DS's original pad.

Not sure why in 2012 you would buy a handheld with a single analog stick. That is unacceptable to me.
The 3DS had one analog stick when it was released in 2011 and when it was announced on 2010, noone was deceived into buying one; so the people buying it..I guess they do so for the games, more than anything (or "OMG glassless 3D"-hype.

But let's not go over that route already; even more when the handheld device that many like to use as example of "the future" has no buttons at all.

Ergonomically it's a matter of taste I guess. Feels fine but not great to me. But the bolded part: Maybe it's just that RE:R wasn't designed with this in mind. I played the game for over 30 hours with Type A controls and tried the CPP several times. Just isn't as tight as the traditional control scheme. But I don't think that's a hardware problem of the CPP.

People hated on the PSPgo layout but I swear by that thing. Most comfortable handheld I've ever used thus far (still waiting on my Vitamin)
That thing felt like touching barbwire. You should put that in the OP so people can take your personal preference into account.

The only redeeming quality I've found is that for someone like myself who has larger hands and arthritis it actually makes the 3DS much more comfortable to hold.

My complaints are:

- It's Ugly
- The L button is now "buried" a bit, making it a pain to use, luckily RE doesn't use it.
- Blocks stylus, cart and wi-fi switch access
- With all that space in the unit, they could have added rumble or something.
- Only 3 games have been announced to use it here.

They basically put this thing out to solve a problem that didn't exist, developers have (and will continue to) designed games around the base hardware setup.

Doesn't matter if the game doesn't need a second analog. It was only a problem on the PSP because of how often games were designed in ways that would benefit greatly from it.
