looks like a nice improvement. any frame rate issues while sniping? got killzones on top of the bases and other structures (aside from the central ring)?
I've playtested it once yesterday and nobody mentioned framerate issues yet. It will definitely be more stable than Asylum - which has a pretty awful framerate at times - as my map uses less objects and less budget.

And yes, I've put killzones where appropriate.

I think its good but I would think the average joe wouldn't like the loss of the snipe to snipe LOS. I'm all for the change for good though :)

Nice work.
Well, it's not only a matter of gameplay but that line of sight also causes framedrops on Asylum so I steered clear of it.

So like I mentioned earlier I decided to create a better version of Asylum. I came to the conclusion that Asylum was beyond saving so I decided to completely rebuild it from the ground up. The version I have right now is a bit of a hybrid between Sanctuary and Asylum. For example; the ramp from courtyard up to sniper hut was a nice idea but the execution was pretty terrible on Asylum. I made it a bit more use-friendly. I did add stuff from Sanctuary like breaking the snipe-to-snipe line of sight and the jump up to ring 3.

Pictures:

Currently it uses 4500$ budget. If I were to remove the light it would be around 4000$. The Asylum in matchmaking right now uses 5500$ budget.

I'll raise carbine eventually.

That's because you played it by yourself! Just kidding, might try it tonight, but first I'm gonna do another playthrough of Minerva's den.

Maybe it's because I only played a few games of 3 yesterday and I've been playing Reach (somewhat) regularly since launch (getting close to 7000 games!) and not H3.

I know this isn't directed at me, but I'm pretty sure I'd prefer H4 not to have AA's in Matchmaking.

Let us have the option in Custom games and maybe in an action sack playlist.

Oh it was directed at you :p I assumed you liked the new mechanics in Reach (based on the Evade thing) and that's why you preferred Reach to H3.

I've promised my girlfriend that I won't get as hyped for Halo 4 as I was for Halo: Reach. (My hype for Reach was astronomical. :lol) I can't wait to finally see the game, though. Hopefully it's worth the wait. :^)

I've yet to play a single game of Arena.

Edit: That seemed really random. Who else hasn't?

i gave it a go when the game first launched - but havent since. the post game scoring seemed quite a bit off IMO, which turned me off.

my wife is already making plans to visit friends out of town for a few days - taking our daughter too. oh how i love her!

Nah, thanks for making me smile.

I suspect we'll get leaks before the embargo is up. We always seem to.

It's usually a smaller site looking to jump the gun, and earn the clicks, before the bigger sites do. Pretty sure if the smaller sites, particularly places like Halo Destiny (j'adore!), get wind of anything it will be up like a shot.

On the bright side, as usual, if it leaks anywhere on net, it will end up on GAF within a minute.

March 5 trailer! There'll be Chief, there'll be Cortana, there'll be BR and there'll be dubstep.

You butchered both names in the same post. No early Halo 4 beta for you.

LOL at thinking they'll be a beta!

I guarantee you will fall into the hype trap again.

Well that's the thing. Yeah you're armored, but the armor is suppose to augment movement, not hinder it.

In the books spartans are portrayed as absurdly fast, mobile, and quick.

In the games they behave very tame.

I thought this would make it so they seem more like actual spartans.

I still don't think Spartans would do anything like wall-jumping with their half a ton of armor on. If anything, I'd expect the following to happen, a wall-jumping Ryu Hayabusa versus a wall-jumping Hayabusa Spartan.

The reality would be somewhere in between. The Chief weighs 450kg in his armor, but he's also super-strong and in the game's fiction, incredibly fast--in part because they have dramatically reduced response times. So the Chief could do some pretty impressive leaps, but he's not going to be doing acrobatics based on the nature of his suit--and wherever he lands he's gonna' leave a mark.

That's what pissed me about Reach--it made us too vulnerable. We should have been Spartan-IIs anyhow, able to beat the daylights out of any unshielded enemy. Instead we're hunted down and killed with homing FRGs, and the Elites curb-stomp us as soon as we move in close. While Reach nailed the more tactical DMR use, it severely curtailed other combat options to the game's detriment (talking single player, multiplayer is of course another arena.)

I stopped playing after they made it win/loss. On the upside, I permanently have Season 1 and 2 on my service record in-game. (If you've been playing all seasons, I believe it pushes the older ones off). Also, personally, if they're going to base 4's movement off any game, it should be somewhere between 2 and Reach. Halo 1's movement was blegh.

I think it would be so cool if you could disarm an enemy at close range.
Maybe use martial arts to finish them off?

My Halo 4 wish list:
1) the maps need to scale better. the BTB maps feel just like the slayer maps in Reach.
2) the melee system needs to be changed. nobody likes double beat downs.
3) the movement needs some refinement. tired of having to jump and crouch.
4) the aiming needs to feel tighter. it always feels floaty in Halo.
5) ranked matchmaking please! it isn't fun when you demolish a team, or get demolished!

The movement of Halo has yet to change in 10 years.
I'm really hoping for some changes.
I'd love it to be more fluid, maybe pull yourself up onto a ledge instead of having to jump and crouch?

Also the melee really pisses me off.

Of course the victim should be able to counter the aggressor.
There isn't much skilled involved in beat downs anyways, so I think there is a lot of room to diversify in melee range combat.

The maps should be able to scale much better than they do right now.
Take a look at Battlefield 3.
There is a huge war raging in Conquest mode version of the maps.
There are medium tactical battles in Rush mode version of the maps.
There are smaller tactical battles in Squad Deathmatch/TDM version of the maps.

When you're limited on disk space, don't try to make the campaign map design work with multiplayer map design.
Make the multiplayer maps scale for different multiplayer game modes.

Or give us 2 disks and epic maps.

....and you were trying to make melee less annoying?

Make melee weak again so it's a situational ability instead of an unstoppable force of nature. Done. Ship it. Anniversary Classic's melee did it. It works.

New Far Cry 3 trailer, Assassin Creed 3 release day, finish the hat trick Frankie with a new H4 pic<3

Black Ops 2, Assassins Creed 3, Halo 4, GTA 5, Bioshock Infinite.

Woah gonna be a pretty good year for gaming.

Ok there are more games, and Black Ops 2 is unlikely, but I just wanted to make the numbers run in order.

I'll probably end up removing mine too. They're so expensive and don't really add a lot.
Keep in mind that there's already framerate issues with the blank canvas in that area. No way of getting around it, but I like what you've got so far (I'd ditch the lights).

Please 343, give us some frakking options so we don't just have shade variations of one color for the next Forge. I'm begging you.

I think we can all agree that if Halo 4 can replicate the risk/reward skill-balance of QUAKE LIVE, then it'll be a success no matter what else.

It isn't annoying, it is just a stupid mechanic.
I beat someone down and they lose their shields.
My punches do more damage than my bullets do.

The close counter fights end up people just jumping around beating each other down.
It could be much more tactical.

You make some good points but then wtf?! Movement changed drastically with Reach. They added fucking Sprint! And evade! Also jump arch is lower. You want things to be more fluid and suggest pulling yourself up from ledges rather than crouch jumping. What? It sounds like you wanna slow it down and make it traversing a map more janky. Also martial arts attacks? I'll pass. I mean if you wanna keep the assassination mechanic and just add different animations that's cool but CQC as Halo has always been is what I love. It is a shooter after all. I can't imagine getting into a CQC battle and countering attacks back and forth in my Halo.

People have been shouting down powerful melee attacks in Halo since 2007, not many are going to disagree that it's out of hand. The logical step is to make it less powerful (like it used to be), not to layer additional systems on top of it that would likely be just as janky as the assassination system.

If you want to introduce more complexity into melee, that's fine, but complicated animation in gameplay isn't the answer there either. A return to the Halo 2 inertia based variable melee damage would be nice. It has the positive side effect of not letting objective items be a OHKO unless the carrier works for it.

You guys remember when we were this || close to losing the automatic beatdown from behind kill?

Nope. When was this?

If you're going to make melee just some weak lovetap so that shooting is always the superior option, take it out the game completely and quit wasting everyone's time. The correct thing would be to make melee more than just a lump sum of damage. Also, remove its lunge, by god.

^ Perfect.

Also I would love to see Halo 2's weapon accuracy stats on the end game stats screen, miss that thing.

I love any end of game stats. Fill the post game report with all kinds of stats. I don't even care if one is "distance travelled" - actually that would be awesome to see who the campers are. Add Shots fired/shots hit, give me a list of weapons of what everyone used - give us all bnet stats in-game.

Get on it Frankie.

Ah, that does sound familiar actually.

Sage was trying to kill everything good about Halo :/ He almost succeeded.

Sage only wanted assassinations, I think Luke was the one who led the charge on not letting that pass. It was in one of the podcasts...

Ahh yes. Fuckin insane. My favorite is the begging and pleading of having the DMR be 15 shots per clip rather than 10 or something. It's like really? That should be fuckin automatic.

Damn, that would have been scary. I like the role the dramatic assassinations play. They're like a dedicated teabag. But in no way should the one-hit quitter have been removed.

I wish there was a option to turn assassinations off, it seems like Sage got his way considering how many accidental assassinations I do. Not going to lie though, with how little I take Reach seriously going for assassinations is something I purposely do most of the time anyway.

With Halo 4 though I dont want to waste my time staring at the same animation when I could have just given him a backsmack, please give me the option to disable animations.

He got his hands on a lot of things that didn't even need touching. He was pretty thorough lol.

Ditched. Also raised car.
I'm experimenting with dynamic spawns for Slayer games right now. Spawn-camping is way too easy with static spawns. Hopefully that will no longer be as easy when people can spawn all over the map.

They experimented by taking normal assassinations out for a little bit, and then put it back. You know, normal development experimentation. They also played with more weapons having custom assassinations like the sword has, and were cut.

I have a friend who accidentally assassinates people all the time but thankfully it rarely happens to me. I'm talkin like, it's happened to me less than 10 times in my total playing of Reach. And you guys know I play a lot.

For me, the assassination animation actually holds weight. I don't do it often so when I do, it means something. It still looks bad ass to me.
