Videogame facts that blow your mind (SuperMarioBros. SHOCKING SECRET INSIDE p #70)

That's mentioned plenty in the series and is how his hidden blade works. it comes up where his ring finger would be.

In Assasin's Creed 2, there's a full cutscene about the more advanced blade that no longer needs a finger missing to work

Ha, I loved that joke Da Vinci played on Ezio.

I never really thought Tactics's ending was very ambiguous about whether
Ramza and Alma lived or not. As far as I remember, it was never said that his body was recovered. I believe that they did bury Alma at the end, but I always assumed that it was Ajora that they found and everyone thought it was Alma.

Final Fantasy Tactics's ending may have seemed a bit ambiguous concerning
Ramza's fate
, but according to Yasumi Matsuno, he is
fully alive
and he went on to have another adventure in a different land:

I have been waiting 10 goddamn years since I was 12 to hear that. You have no idea how many stupid arguments I've had with the NO EVERYTHING IS DARK AND GRIM crowd that the entire FMV was to SHOW that Ramza lived on.

Can you confirm this 100% that this wasn't a mistranslation? As in "he MAY be alive" or some semantics?

Yeah, I know Matsuno's English is not perfect so when I worded my question I made it very explicit so he could answer easily: is he alive OR is he dead? Matsuno's answer is that "he is not dead, alive properly" so this seems pretty clearcut I think.

Well thanks, DiipuSurotu, you made my Valentine's day. Feel good about that.

So today I started playing the Gamecube CE version of Ocarina of Time again and noticed two (probably well-known) things. The first was that C up also works like A and B in conversations. I don't have an N64 so I don't know if it works on the original as well, although I don't see why it shouldn't. But why map C up to such a function? It's not even close to A or B and none of the other C buttons do anything.

The other was after visiting the great fairy on top of Death Mountain I accidentally talked to the owl, and found out I could ride with him back to Kakariko village! In all my years I have never known this. I guess it's because it requires you to actually go and speak with him, and whenever I saw that owl I just ran the fuck away hoping he didn't see me.

Saw this on Reddit. Been playing the game for almost two years now and never noticed this:

The crafting menu is on top of workbenches in Minecraft!

There are screws in the corners and a grill in the middle. If you've never seen a speaker that looks like that, you've not lived. Especially at most schools where it looks like a lot of their intercom speakers.

I guess I'm dead, then. I'm 39 and I've never seen a speaker that looks like that. Intercom speakers looked like what you get if you google "intercom speaker". Some of them have that basic square with 4 screws design (as if that couldn't be a thousand other things), but certainly none of them are or ever were blue and orange.

...well, that's enough time spent on that!

Technically nothing in this thread "needs" to be pointed out. It's just for fun.

Videogames: serious business.

lol thanks Dad.

Some of the secrets and other discoveries in here are awesome. The Silent Hill/Kindergarten Cop matchups are a prime example of something that's in your face, but not super obvious.

The Minecraft table/crafting grid is not hard to notice. It doesn't really belong in here.

In the latest episode of GT's Pop-fiction, they uncover that Totaka's Song is actually present in Wii Sports.
It's hidden in the changing sound effects of tennis rockets'.

Er... that REALLY sounds like a stretch. All I'm noticing is loud/soft thwacks alternating, but timed to fit the rhythm of Totaka's Song.

1) That rhythm would simply NOT be heard while playing the game, ever.
2) I'm not hearing the notes/pitches -- just the same 2 "thwacks" timed with the rhythm of the song -- and the rhythm doesn't appear in Wii Sports. They applied that rhythm themselves.

Kind of what I think. Anything played with this rhythm would sound like that.

I could have sworn the 16th and 19th 'notes' seemed lower in pitch than the others, but I think that's just a side effect of them having more time before the next hit starts (i.e., the other hits are cut short before the end of the sound effect, making them sound a little higher on average as you don't hear the lower trail-off/echo). Playing the game for myself, I couldn't detect a similar switch in pitch on the shots at all, so yeah, it probably is coincidence.

It's a pity. I thought they would have done some more rigorous testing before releasing the video. Just doing the same audio thing they did there, but starting two hits later in the sequence, or duplicating a pair of notes multiple times would be enough to prove whether it is real or just wishful thinking that is adding pitch to the hits. Or even just let us hear what the rally sounded like without the cuts...

Yeah. By the standards of their testing, omg guys, Gourmet Race was hidden in a series of Smash Bros sound effects! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9obnIOWez38

You have a problem with that, but not the things that are obviously turtle, but have red (or blue, or yellow) shells... and wings?

I thought of the speaker block as a radio made from a coconut, a la Gilligan's Island. Yoshi lives in a grass hut, after all.

It's kind of a miserable design as an intercom, as the reactions in this thread clearly demonstrate.

I'll expect a PM every time.

Stop taking things so seriously, brah. I'm hardly the first person to say a fact in here isn't mindblowing.
