Maybe not the novel (the novel is.. odd..), but the scenario would be awesome for a game.
Oil production peaked 20 years before the game begins.
The electricity has gone off, save for a few spots on the planet with hydro power and solar panels.
People have been forced to learn "the old ways" of feeding themselves, making their clothes, repairing their homes, practicing medicine, etc.
There have been multiple wars around the globe in the prior two decades, wherein the participants fought over remaining sources.
There have been huge migrations of populations around the globe, depending on climate and resources. Lots of related violence.
I'm imagining an open world game where your character is from a small town and you can pretty much learn survival skills and do quests to outside-of-town destinations for rare materials, scavenging the landscape and the remains of the information and indstrial ages, etc. Your bullets would be limited, especially depending on what caliber weapon you use.
There could be a mainline quest where you're competing with a nearby town for resources, hunting land, farmland, etc, and the conflict has to be resolved.. somehow.
So many possibilities..
