Worlds That Deserve a Video Game

Berserk

This series just hasn't had enough exposure. Such a terrific story and setting. The apostles themselves would make interesting boss fights. I think if the new films take off we could see some games next gen.

Imagine that in 1080p awesomeness with locked 60 fps with a combat system designed by Kamiya.

Not sure if it is the same game, but I remember the Dreamcast Berserk was pretty good.

You guys already beat me to the two I was going to say:

Steelpushing/Ironpulling around the world Spider-Man style with the other Allomatic powers at your disposal would be awesome. I would love to see the visual direction someone talented would create for Luthadel

Yeah. The Mistborn power set might as well be a convenient ability wheel to pull up in game. Use the Assassin's Creed engine, but make the cities taller. For the traversal I'd have a "simple mode" where you just super jump and your character auto-throws coins to land and then an advanced mode where you have to do the aiming and then manually push/pull. It'd be so awesome.

Brandon Sanderson's The Way of Kings. If only fantasy games were even half as creative.

Some really fun stuff could be done with combat in Shardplate and with surge binding (though you'd pretty much have to play as Szeth if you're setting it during the first book). Or they could even do a prequel where you play as Knights Radiant.

OP, you can get your Arrietty on with Minish Cap. :)

Ah I forgot about Minish Cup, I have it waiting on my 3DS (through the Ambassador Program), maybe I should jump into it soon. The only thing though is that I want a game that not only implements being small into the setting, but also into gameplay in such a a way to where it becomes one of the main antagonists. The only game I have played that has even attempted that is Deadly Creatures.

Nah It's a different one. The DC one has its own plot separate from the manga, takes place post eclipse during the black swordsman arc.

The ps2 one picks up post black swordsman arc and goes up to pretty recent, when guts fights grunbeld.

Sadly the ps2 one was only released in japan. It's fun but it doesn't have that much depth and can feel like a dynasty warrior game at times. Made up by awesome cut scenes straight from the manga and cool boss fights.

I've always thought Patrick Tilley's Amtrak Wars series would have made for a great game, particularly multiplayer. Tri-factional asymmetric open-world warfare.

Rifts - The Palladium Books Role-playing Game
For those that don't know of it Here's the link to read up - think futuristic cyberpunk crossed with inter-dimensional travel. A world where technology meets magic.

Converted into a game much like Mass Effect except you can choose your O.C.C. just like in the RPG ala 'Techno Wizard', 'Glitter Boy Pilot', 'Juicer', 'Ley Line Walker' etc.

The world would be much darker than Mass Effect though, think Blade Runner Gritty.

Yes good call.

Or perhaps more specifically

Give me an Assassin's Creed-style game in Ankh-Morpork. Please. Nevermind the adventure games, give me an RPG or something

Aslo great choice, rpg or stealth game here would be great.

I'd really like a new Dark Sun game too.

Well..there was a PS2 game already.

However unfortunately the manga turned into complete and utter shit now, the Ant arc was so freaking bad, and Election Arc is so fucking boring, if there is plans for a new game I hope they stay with the hunter exam ,Shin York and Greed Island arcs.

Don't listen to this man.

HunterXHunter is somewhere between shonen and seinen, and still one of the most awesome mangas out there, imo.

-Shadowrun. By this I mean a bonafide open world Cyberpunk WRPG.

Mod Bloodlines if you have to. Just do it.

(Heck, I just want a cyberpunk WRPG, but Shadowrun's the best bet. Serial Experiments Lain isn't too out there...)

On that note, I'm hoping someone makes a Mage: The Awakening WRPG before I get to it.

That would be amazing, I never actually played the game but I must have at least a dozen of the books. Almost unlimited potential there

I was just about to say Rifts. In terms of the scenario and fiction it's custom built to be the "last game world you'll ever need". LITERALLY.

Screw that, I'd love to see one of the oWoD Mage: The Ascension. While we're at it, I'd also love to see one for Wraith: The Oblivion. A final boss fight with a Neverborn Malfean! Oh, that game would be soooo good.

This times a billion. It's such an insanely rich universe. You could literally make any kind of game you want.

Magic? Check.
Technology? Check
Dragons? Check
Mechs? Check
Space Opera stuff? Check
Vampires and other horror monsters? Check
and on and on.

Oh and this time don't put the game on the fucking nGage.

Deserves a decent game. It was too awesome a book series to have gotten only a crappy low budget children's show and a bunch of garbage games.

I don't know if it'd be a fighting game or adventure...but it needs to be made

Holy crap, I did a double take. For a second I thought I had made this post and forgotten about it.

What I'm trying to say is that you're awesome

EDIT: Oh, and any Matthew Reilly novel, but I believe I've said that before in a similar thread.
This is a good call. I read one novel by him, and it pretty much was a crazy action-adventure video game. I think, at one point, the main character saved himself from an exploding aircraft carrier by slingshotting himself (using the cables that catch landing planes from going overboard) off it in a Jeep. It just seemed like one of the stupid and wonderful kinds of scenes you usually only see in games.

I just saw Arrietty this weekednd (fantastic movie, btw) and I was thinking the same thing. A lot of the scenes in that movie made me think of potential LittleBigPlanet levels actually.

Adventure Time open world action RPG would also be amazing.

As would the world from Avatar: The Last Airbender.

yeah, Adventure Time is like stupid obvious here.

id really like to see more Noir (god i miss Grim Fandango), and neo-Noir settings. its been a minute since someone ripped off Blade Runner.

Any Brandon Sanderson book really. I could see some really cool implementations of the magical systems in Warbreaker.

Yes. Everything by Brandon Sanderson is begging for video games.

I'm thinking open world RPG set in the city. Go shopping and do cool non-combat activities during the day, break out the powers at night and fly around breaking into places and beating up other Allomancers Maybe cast you as a member of one of the Great Houses working to increase their clout.

There's that, and a great co-op heist game could be made, too.

Alloy of Law would make a great third person shooter and regenerating health could actually have an in universe explanation for once!

Maybe not the novel (the novel is.. odd..), but the scenario would be awesome for a game.

Oil production peaked 20 years before the game begins.
The electricity has gone off, save for a few spots on the planet with hydro power and solar panels.
People have been forced to learn "the old ways" of feeding themselves, making their clothes, repairing their homes, practicing medicine, etc.
There have been multiple wars around the globe in the prior two decades, wherein the participants fought over remaining sources.
There have been huge migrations of populations around the globe, depending on climate and resources. Lots of related violence.

I'm imagining an open world game where your character is from a small town and you can pretty much learn survival skills and do quests to outside-of-town destinations for rare materials, scavenging the landscape and the remains of the information and indstrial ages, etc. Your bullets would be limited, especially depending on what caliber weapon you use.

There could be a mainline quest where you're competing with a nearby town for resources, hunting land, farmland, etc, and the conflict has to be resolved.. somehow.

So many possibilities..
