If anything it'll be Adol hair.
Calling this as the TF2 hat
Any type of Falcom Steam releases would be a huge game-changer. I'm kind of afraid to hope for that much out of this news -- despite how much sense it would make to seek out the (potentially quite hungry) PC audience as a new source of revenue for Japanese RPGs, and how much adding the PC platform would enable XSEED to avoid some of the platform-specific challenges they've run into on systems like PSP, it feels like such a huge change of approach that it's hard to believe it'd actually come to pass.
If it does, though, day one on everything, just to make it 100% clear how strongly I support a move like this.
Still, Falcom getting back into the PC market, especially overseas, would catch a lot of attention and I'll readily admit that the mere concept makes me tingly.
Except it's not exactly Falcom going back into the PC market, however. After LOH: TiTS the 3rd, then that's pretty much it for new games. Unless they decide to bring over the subpar PC version of Zero no Kiseki, but at this point I'd prefer the enhanced Vita version personally....
Well, if the overseas market proves it can generate a substantial enough profit, one would imagine that Falcom will resume PC development; it's not like they shed all their PC-knowledgeable developers. And, heck, ultimately the Crossbell Trails games operate on the Ark engine, so if Falcom really wanted to, it would presumably not be that hard to port the content over to the PC version of the Ark engine.
(This does make Ys Seven, Celceta and presumably most/all future games more problematic, though, since the Ark engine is really at the end of its useful life-cycle. Though if Falcom does anything with PhyreEngine like they've been saying, and Celceta might be running on that, then that works with the PC too.)
So, do we have a specific time for the announcement? Or am I going to have to keep my eyes glued to my screen all day in anticipation?
I find it very hard to believe that Falcom will self-port their Vita/PSP games back on the PC at this point. That's not even remotely the way the uber-conservative company works.
IF they do OK the PC ports, they would let some other company do the porting, not themselves, which is traditionally how they roll. But seeing how the Chinese version of Zero no Kiseki turned out, I think it's best that XSEED sticks to the Vita version.
Zero no Kiseki Vita is also farmed out, albeit to a Japanese studio (Pyramid).IF they do OK the PC ports, they would let some other company do the porting, not themselves, which is traditionally how they roll. But seeing how the Chinese version of Zero no Kiseki turned out, I think it's best that XSEED sticks to the Vita version.
The Vita Zero no Kiseki is not developed or published by Falcom.
NOOO!! SC ;_;So it's The Last Story.
But why have they been added to the Steam registry? It has to be a sign of things to come...right?!

Yes it should be.
Anyone else find it a bit weird that they're listed as XSEED Partners on the registry? The company's official name is XSEED JKS... Maybe they have an external partner in this crusade?
Maybe they going to be rapid firing their (relative) megatons? Still, this is the very definition of SURPRISE, damn. But why have they been added to the Steam registry? It has to be a sign of things to come...right?!
C'moooooooon Dinosaur localization.
There is a fan translation of Dinosaur Resurrection going through at the moment.
Yes I know - and my post didn't suggest otherwise. I just want the best version of the game localized! And it does involve Falcom somewhat since they're writing an extra scenario for it.
Didn't know much about the game so looked it up on Youtube. The dungeon graphics look decent but the monsters are...cards? Really underwhelming
I think I misunderstood. I thought you were suggesting that XSEED should use the Vita version as a base if they wanted to develop their own PC port, but you were simply saying that XSEED should localize the Vita version instead of exploring PC releases. My bad.
I don't know, I quite like it. Think it suits the style of the game.
If they went with actual 3D monsters, they would have been like the horrible CG used on the intro. That would have been much worse. Seriously, youtube the intro.
I would have been fine with a hi-res art that "shudders" when you hit it, like on other cheap Wizardry knock-offs like Class of Heroes. The ugly-looking cards do nothing for me.
One issue of concern regarding XSEED tackling the Vita version of Zero is the voice work though. If they were to dub it, the cost would be pretty substantial because of the amount of content. If they were to leave it in Japanese, they might also have to pay more for the license because of the voice talent involved, and the huge cast. If they were to remove the majority of voice work, fans would probably get really pissed off and boycott the product anyway.

But the cards are the art (and they do shudder), so in other words, it's the art you don't like?
I guess they were partly trying to pay tribute to the original game that was released in 1989
The Facebook announcement was, the Steam registry is another thing. So, was it The Last Story?

So it's The Last Story.
For those who missed it, the announcement for today was The Last Story on Wii.
Which means this whole Steam thing is still a mystery! OoooOOOooo...
And of course, Tom is being a tease about it:

So clearly something is still to come on this.
Hmmm... *two* ValveTestApps, huh? Interesting...

How about you just announce something instead of teasing?
Prolonged teasing just means a higher potential for people to be angry when it doesn't turn out to be what they want.
I'd like to think that TitS fans would know better than to bite the hand that feeds; in this case especially. But I'm probably being naive about it. If removing the voices was what it took to get us the game in English, I wouldn't bat an eye.If they were to remove the majority of voice work, fans would probably get really pissed off and boycott the product anyway.
