OT but no one outside sale-agers would be interested:
NGPC HW LTD in America is 175K
NGPC best selling game in America is Sonic PA with 110K (that attach rate).

-Pocket Games #4

EDIT:
For reference NGP LTD in Japan was 550K (Famitsu)

Yeah. It's pretty sad seeing how western developers don't believe that there's a market for Vita because if they don't see the point, they are not going to make games.

PlayStation Vita Thoughts - D.I.C.E. 2012 (Bioware, Insomniac, Rocksteady, Epic)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FWz9zr7jG3U

A video about the vita has more iphone/ipad/smartphone mentions than vita mentions. And there are basically zero positive comments about the handheld.

This is one of the reasons why I'm not planning on getting a Vita until we have a better picture of its future. I love the hardware but I have never seen this apathy towards a console from the industry before.

So no Mass Effect, Dragon Age from Bioware, no games from IGs, no Batman or superhero games from Rocksteady, no Gears, SC, IB, or Unreal from Epic.

BTW, I share your feelings, I'm taking a wait and see approach with Vita, need to see more games, more 3rd party games, more gameplay, more 3rd party game announcements...the hardware and OS are great, but I'm not buying something that can be unsupported like the PSP was for awhile. It's interesting to note that it seems developers are taking the same approach, i.e. waiting to see the sales and how the games sell on the machine...

Good thing about this approach for me is, if it tanks, I didn't waste any money, and if it doesn't tank and good games that I want come out for it, then there'll probably be a revision with some cool stuff like internal memory.

What am I looking at?

SCEA should issue a press release/statement no later than the end of next week. If we don't get one or it's suspiciously worded, we can assume sales are pretty bad.

Wonder what they consider bad.

Tretton's statements indicate they'd be happy with 500K in three weeks - wonder what that would translate to launch week.

Personally i dont think that video indicates much one way or the other. I mean, on one hand they mention the usual stuff about competition from cellphones and tablets, but then on the other hand they mention that good content is what is needed and that publishers are looking to put their games on several of platforms. This could mean that they think that the Vita might get strong competition from other devices, but that they will try to make good content for it. Only time will tell what happens though.

That, plus the pedigree, plus Nintendo has been hyping it to hell since the 3DS was revealed.

It was one of the first (or the first?) games revealed for the system at e3 2010.

Those things you mention, though, mean it might sell well out of the gate, but the potential fun had with the game will be the factor in whether it becomes an 'evergreen' title.

As long as the netcode isn't broken like in SSBB, then the game should be fine.

Out of curiosity, what would be the best selling game in Japan which actually fits into the sort of game Kid Icarus is? Star Fox 64?

I can't believe you have people in this thread rooting for a dating sim to sell well.

I understand console allegiance (well i don't understand it, it is idiotic anyway you look at it), but rooting for a dating sim is just sad.

Love Plus is a pretty well known franchise and a system seller...
Plus, it gives us amazing pictures and videos!

People like to say the netcode was broken, but I honestly wonder at that. I haven't done extensive network programming, but...

There aren't many online games where so many things have to be on-screen and active at once, while retaining pixel-perfect positioning and exact frame timing at all times. You're not just handling two characters and their deterministic inputs.

As well, with games like Mario Kart or Halo you can fake a lot of stuff, and you don't need to have precision updates all the time. Nobody cares really if Player A shot the item off 10 seconds ago but Player B didn't see it until 8 seconds ago, or if a shell on Player A's screen looks like it goes straight through Player B for a few seconds before Player B registers the hit. No big deal with that type of game. But can you imagine the chaos that would be in Smash Bros.?

Anyway, this is a total aside, but I think that the common "oh the netcode was broken!" oversimplifies the issue. I honestly wonder whether a full-items smash bros. can actually be done online with acceptable internet latency or not, especially with people on connections of drastically different speeds.

The problem really wasn't so much any lag or delay with SSBB.
It was the fact that the game would constantly not recognize people as online.
Or it would just not connect at all.
Or it would not let people join your games randomly.

It was just awful.
I could deal with a bit of delay, but not with not even be able to play.

And how many have you played to make a statement like that?

FFS, stop with this retarded argument already. "We knew bla bla bla". Fact: first 6 months of 3DS were more barren then a fucking Gobi desert.

Yes, good games are coming to Vita? You know why? Because it is one of two flagship products in Sony's most profitable division, that's fucking why.

Wow! That $250+ that was spent must be REALLY serious. Hell, it's $250+, I would be too.

Sorry, I feel sad for you :/

I see. I didn't really run into those issues myself... just ran into games that were extremely "laggy." But yeah, those are other issues for sure.

I'm not sure StarFox is the best comparison to Kid Icarus. It's only one third of one half of the game.

I still think the ground and boss levels remind me a lot of Kingdom Hearts. The game's structure is different, but its melee combat are very similar. There are screenshots of the two games where they could almost be interchangeable, particularly with camera angles and character designs. (I haven't the time to find, re-host, and post screenshots right now.)

what about 'rooting' in a dating sim? Would you care for that instead?

Wow, Binary Domain is expensive in Japan. 8300 yen-ish? Is that a special edition or something?

Nope. That's a common SRP for a lot of games.

Ryu ga Gotoku OF THE END 7,980
Final Fantasy XIII 9,420
Final Fantasy XIII-2 7,980
One Piece Musou 8,199
Gundam Extreme Versus 8,380
Final Fantasy Type-Zero 7,700

You can always get them for less, but that's the suggested retail price.

Yeah, God forbid different kinds of games being successful in this industry. Only shooters and RPGs should be allowed to sell well, right?

There's nothing wrong with dating sims. I've already played 40 hours or so so far and it's great. The bugs are a little disappointing, but I didn't transfer, so they don't affect me much.

Konami have announced an update for LovePlus TOOLS (the origin of most of the bugs). Seems we have a few sell through percentages too.

LovePlus 60%
Binary Domain 60%
Theatrhythm 90%

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go back to bugging Rinko to lengthen her hair.

Tekken, Ace Combat and similar games are never going to sell well on 3DS, anywhere. PSP could get away with these spinoffs and ports because at that time they were graphically impressive and comparable to games on home consoles and were "new experiences" never seen before on a handheld.

In the case of Tekken 3DS it also doesn't help that Namco forgot to include single player modes.
Ridge Racer 3DS did surprisingly well though.

It does have single player modes, just not as many as people normally expect in this day and age of filler content rife fighting games.

SCV is also lacking in single-player content. Maybe it's Namco's new direction.

And maybe it'll work out for them in the West since it seems to be backfiring in Japan.

Well, it's quite impressive that 3ds saw a +27K (if I'm right: from 67 to 94?) in HW sales thanks to a game that sold almost 100K. Yes, I know that this week thare was also another new entry for 3ds that performed well (FFT) but I think that probably the boost is more LovePlus based than FFT based.
It could mean that a lot of LovePlus buyers were not 3ds owners before the release of this game.
So, yes: a great system seller, in my opinion.
