It seems like a really cool idea, but a lot of work. Also getting clips will be a bit of a problem unless your going for a wacky funtage.

Woah that new 360 looks really plasticy. All the same the sooner it comes out the better! I can sense my Xbox is close to death im hoping when this releases that the older models drop in price.

Yep, it's gonna be a lot of work.

1. Link to full game film in your file share, with a time stamp and description (e.g. Triple Kill at 3:43).

I just hope no one actually does that, it would pretty terrible if you have to sift through a game to get something right at the end.

I think he's talking about project cost there. It was already mentioned in one of the vidocs that Microsoft essentially told them they'd have no problem phoning in a game on the Halo 3 engine to satisfy the contract, and Bungie elected to not do so.

Microsoft is notorious for being cheapasses with their game division.

Didn't consider it from that perspective; that makes sense. Saying that, wouldn't MS have given Bungie a fixed budget to work with? All in all, that whole '5 Halo games' contract seems a little awkward if MS weren't that bothered about Reach being a distinguished game built from the ground up.

If Halo 4 totally sucks you can still bet it will sell in the millions. I think thats the logic MS was banking on. They probably wanted Reach to be a quick project, quick delivery == quick buck so reusing Halo 3 assets would have been fine for them.

I personally hope 343 has some freedom from the business guys.

It seems like MS went all out backing 343 with all kinds of talent. I doubt they would do that only to shoe horn them into making a game for a quick buck. They know that Halo was once the King of FPS and would love to see an Aragornian retern.

Not sure I agree with that. It's probably true of the position Reach was in; after Halo 3, any Halo with a new multiplayer componant would sell millions. Two years after the comparitively mediocre Reach (in terms of Live activity and population) and five years after Halo 3, with the hunger for modern war setting fps's at its zenith, I don't think a new Halo game that "totally sucks" would be guaranteed millions of sales.

Halo 4, in many ways, feels make or break for the series. It needs to be of the highest quality and I have faith that 343 can deliver that. It could also do with a mega marketing campaign, which I'm sure it'll get.

Yeah I agree with both of you. 343 Certainly don't seem to be pressurised to get H4 out too early, which is a good thing, but makes the wait agonising. :p

And I also agree that Halo hasnt quite got the selling power it once did. Reach was certainly in the position though, where it would sell a lot no matter the quality. Halo 4 is in a much tougher position which is maybe why MS are not as keen to just get it out the door quickly.

Im just speculating from the Lehto article though and to be honest being silly trying to analyse the Bungie - Microsoft relationship just based on that.

I wonder what the design team on Halo 3 possibly thought the H3 Pistol was useful for. It is literally a useless weapon.

Infinite will come out on the 360, just like Bioshock.
Bioshock came out on the PS3 like 6 months after the 360.
I have to think that whoever was responsible for the H3 pistol had a shitload of pent-up anger about the power of the H1 counterpart.

As to Bioshock, I was just looking for something good for the PS3. I liked the first game, but it's not necessarily a day 1 purchase for me. If anyone has any suggestions for PS3 games, I'm all ears.

But Microsoft also funded the development of Reach. It's not like they went to Bungie and that they forced them to create a new engine from scratch.

In some alternate timeline, where Microsoft did force them; I guess you would be mad at MS for forcing a new engine while Bungie did not want to.
See, I can make stuff up too.

It's going to take a fair amount of work, but really once I have the film files collected it shouldn't be too bad capturing them. A little time consuming, maybe.

I'll enjoy the video editing part, so that's no trouble at all.

I imagine there will be sections of the montage with serious, skilled gameplay and sections with wacky stuff. I'm not expecting every submission to be Walshy-level donging, but at the same time we don't want the entire montage to be clips from Dino Blasters.

I just hope no one actually does that, it would pretty terrible if you have to sift through a game to get something right at the end.
Not that hard, really. Just fast-forward (RT + Start), then step away from the Xbox for a few minutes. When the film is over, skip back to just before the wanted time and fast-forward from there.

Duncan, you should capture all the clips yourself. It will keep it consistent.
That's the plan; I only added the pre-rendered footage option as a last resort for maximum participation. I'd really prefer capturing things myself.

-------
Note: Submissions don't have to be from recent games, if you have an old film saved that works as well.

WHAT'S COOLER THAN COOL?????????

I had a strange take on that song the other day. What if no one was really excited to do the return lyrics? So OutKast yells "WHAT'S COOLER THAN BEING COOL?" and the female return sounds extremely reluctant to say "Ice cold."

Will have clips up over the weekend. Will it be just Reach, or can we throw in a couple Halo 3 clips?

Yeah I just don't see what they were even thinking as the point of having the weapon in the game. It does nothing well in any role.

Yeah I see, I was just saying you don't need a PS3 for Bioshock.
Best game of this generation. Shots fired.

Also, never knew about the fast foward feature. Mind blown. I've sat through 15 minute games holding down the right trigger like a scrub.

I think the number '4' will also help sell it better, people were still burnt off ODST (for who knows what reason), and might have thought 'Reach' was something akin to it instead of a full new game.

Ugh modern military FPSs, garbo. Give me quake and halo over that shit any day.

Hay guiz, its realistic to aim a rifle wif a mouse! (or joystick)
Once we have a holodeck I'll be more than happy to play a modern FPS.

A lot of people that I know will certainly play through the campaign, but they buy Halo for the competitive MP. ODST was a $60 map pack to them. I got some feedback about people not knowing if Reach was a full featured game or not either.

I'm interested to see if the 4 being in the title fixes that doubt of a real Halo sequel.

Anyone see the new 360 today?

Wonder if a green slim is in the works for Halo 4. I love my Halo 3 360 but it's getting long in the tooth, and I freaking love green consoles.

Ohh, sexy, though I still want the black slim a little more. If they do a Halo 4 console I hope they plan it out to make sure it looks nice rather than goofy. Maybe go for a MC in Cryo look or something.

Not for me bro... Not for me.
New to me also, my god, how long have I not known?

"Lightning Bolt!"

Duncan, make sure you upload a version without any music just in case some people don't like the song(s) picked

Don't worry, I'll make two versions just to appease everyone:
One with old-school Linkin Park (Crawling, etc.), and one with songs from a more recent LP album.

Or were you thinking of that Hoobastank song "Connected"? I suppose three montage versions won't stretch me too thin...

Duncan, I might have a Firefight clip or two
or 50
for the montage. Great idea. We did something similar when sending off Halo 3. Your cutoff date is...interesting. :)

I love the look of the new 360, though I'm still partial to the black one.

Blow Me Away, Connected, Kill ur friendz, 1st movement of the Odyssey, and we will rock you. omg so good

In all seriousness though, if you do upload a second musicless one, could it be the clips with a second between each one with no transitions? I'd like to have some fun with video editing too, but I don't have a capture card.

A warning: The Franklinator "Best Of" clips probably won't be very cool. It'll be like listening to a greatest hits compilation of The Cure
WTF are you dissing The Cure? Or just making a joke about depressing goths?

submitting my only decent play in Reach

Not sure how well it will translate to a quick clip in a montage without explanation of the about to lose clutch blainage that transcended. People might just think it's another underwhelming Tashi triple.

On the Halo 3 one I remember submitting a bunch of goofy plays (thinking that's what at least some other people were doing to create a more entertaining montage) and what got included was a run of the mill sniper triple kill I tossed in at the last minute and not some of the other more unusual stuff :(

Is anyone else concerned about forge world shitting up the montage? I don't really think we should avoid forge world clips, it just sucks that they're so bland and... grey.

A combination of the 2, lol. I can't stand The Cure for whatever reason

Also, I heard them on the radio this morning so they were the first band to come to mind
Haha, they're my favorite male-lead band.

Edit : That Tunavi clip HAS to be in the montage. And yay @ MLG news.
