Wait, Son'y streaming is over?
Yup. It's a collection of video's announcing MGS HD releasing the 28th of June, Phantasy Star Online 2, Super Robot Wars Vita and uhh... oh a project from Inafking.

Edit: Vita has two "big" titles for June now. Persona 4 the Golden and MGS HD. Hmmm.

Sorry for asking, I thought Sony was having a conference like Nintendo's one in September. Was this event even advertised? If they announced nothing here, I feel bad for Vita...

Sticking with my prediction of 9,200 next week.

smiles and cries said:
such a sexy hardware being wasted.

what the hell happened to Sony's goldenboy pull on 3rd Parties?
Was the GameCube this bad in Japan?

The gamecube was performing better at this point in time.

edit- I lied. Gamecube was doing worse at week 10, but it receives a huge boost around week 15, at which point Vita will be tracking lower. Page 10 of this thread (50 ppp!) has a chart.

It's more like Nintendo Direct, except more amateurish and without much content.

No. MGS HD is not a big title. The two big Vita titles for June are Persona 4 The Golden and Gundam SEED Battle Destiny.

He's a pretty swell guy in my books anyway.
Sony didn't go into panic mode for Vita, but someone should tell them they should.

After the first week, people who have beaten the game and want to get money back for the game which they can spend on the next big game will start selling their copies.

This is very much true but it already was that way on PS2. First used copies usually turn up only days after launch. Of course then the used prices are still very close to the original but it gets worse over time when the number of used copies circulating increases, just as you further describe.

What I'm not sure is how it could have gotten much worse in this gen. It already was pretty bad in 2002/2003 when I was in Japan.

Edit: What could have made it worse is that since the PS3 is too expensive for most casual gamers the share of core gamers, who are more likely to buy at launch or buy used copies, increased. OPM might be a trend changer though as it is the PS3's biggest success at the new price point which now approaches being affordable for casuals.

What makes it worse this generation is that big core games have lower overall user base, some have gotten more expensive, and there's generally less people buying the sort of games which were very popular on the PS1 and PS2. This makes the used game problem much more of a problem for certain genres.

maybe Sony thinks the hardware is future proof and they can just flow through this dry spell for a year or two until the major games can turn things around

can a 1 year old hardware suddenly skyrocket into Heaven?

I stand corrected. MGS HD won't be a big seller then? I did see the whole discussion about MGS SE 3D on the last page but me thinks I shouldn't read it :p

Well, that's what they did with the PSP.
Except that betting on another MH scenario is very dangerous.

Grim future ahead.

Unlike a lot of people I don't think PSVita Game Heaven was some kind of debacle because it was a webcast. If we're at TGS in September and Sony is still pimping said games that's when I'd begin to feel very afraid.

MGS HD didn't even sell 100k on the PS3 in Japan. No reason it would do significant numbers on the Vita. Gundam and Persona both have the possibility of selling over 100k, which is a start. But this is really the sort of start the hardware needed at launch, not 6 months after launch.

I think that some of the blame comes from the small event Iwata held at the low point in the 3DS's history, where they basically just said "And here's a bunch of awesome games you all want" and showed off MH3/4 and some SE games and Fire Emblem and a bunch of other games.
After that, sales started to pick up pretty well and continued to rise.

That happened in September (just prior to TGS), and was a live conference. I'd be more concerned if Sony held a live stage presentation for what they announced today, haha.

if only MH4 was not already heading to 3DS with a possibility that its being heavy on the 3D functions

I wonder what Nintendo thought about today's event for Vita

Capcom need to pull a "lets save Gamecube by putting some Biohazard on it" mercy port for Vita

did Sony burn some bridges I just don't understand the lack of support

cw_sasuke

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
June is not a complete wasteland is what you wanted to say.

You could it also put it that way.

The Vita event the day after Capcoms Betrayalton was kinda lame though....and it was live.

That's true, but it was also desperately needed by Nintendo.
Just like it is by Sony. E3 is still months away, and TGS even longer.
They need something NOW.

I don't think it has so much to do with Sony, as it does with a much more aggressive Nintendo.

Around what numbers do we think Gundam Seed Battle Destiny will do on the Vita? Considering Gundam's popularity + re-airing of Gundam Seed in HD, could it reach 150k?

I'm more puzzled at SE's absence tbh.

ok, thinking about Sony "Conference", isn't PSO a bad announcement in someway?

i mean, why announce a game 1 year before it's release and nothing meaningful for this year?
Doens't it kinda confirm that we won't see any new unknown game released before E3/TGS?

I don't think anyone would have batted an eye at what was shown on the webcast (if you can call it that) if it weren't for the fact that the Vita is travelling so badly right now.

People expected more from Vita Game Heaven because they're looking for Sony to respond, some assurance that the system has a strong future. And it hasn't come, and presumably there won't be another opportunity until E3 or TGS.

Of course this is the same Sony that let the PSP fall to pieces in the US, so I guess it shouldn't be any surprise. And they weren't exactly rushing to give the PSP a lift in its first few years in Japan.

Well, even Nintendo Direct events had more news.
To me, it seems Sony does not have anything to show otherwise I don't understand the reasons to not even say "Capcom is working on MH" or something.

PSO is a strong IP so it would do well in assuring consumers that Vita still has some 3rd party support left. There really doesn't seem to be any new unknown games till E3...

And that is my entire problem with Sony. It's like the expect to succeed simply because of who they are. Not what they do.
The PSP sold well in spite of Sony, not because of them. In fact, I'd go so far as to say they were almost intentionally sabotaging it.
The horrible marketing, the lack of first party system sellers (or hell, really any games) and just overall treating it like it didn't matter.
Well, even Nintendo Direct events had more news.

I think we all understand why they haven't said this, by this point.

Thats the key. nintendo are being aggressive and being pro active.

Maybe just maybe, capcom arent working in monster hunter for vita

Yeah, that's why I said that probably Sony has nothing to show.
But it seems strange that it has REALLY nothing. Hatsune Miku? Kenka Bancho? Some tie-in (on PSP some of them sold pretty well)? Did third-parties have something only for the launch?

I'm guessing SE and Capcom were what that dude was talking about it regards to cancelling games for the Vita and moving them on to 3DS, unless. It seems more and more likely to be the case unless either of them start announcing something for the vita.
