Yeah, that's why I said that probably Sony has nothing to show.
But it seems strange that it has REALLY nothing. Hatsune Miku? Kenka Bancho? Some tie-in (on PSP some of them sold pretty well)? Did third-parties have something only for the launch?
Seeing as it looks like the 3ds hatsune miku is going to sell well, wouldnt surprise me if the vita game that has been rumoured/planned has been moved to 3ds

I never left and I still missed the huge announcements...

There were none
PSO's still arguably huge...

I'm pretty sure Project Diva for Vita is still slated for it. They're simply waiting for Project Mirai to release first.

Huge in what sense? It's good news for fans who plan on playing the game anyway and want a portable version to use on the go, but it's definitely not a replacement for Phantasy Star Portable.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

The MH userbase isnt on Vita right now and if they are charging a monthly fee on Vita i cant see how this game will be a major success or mainstream seller - especially when you dont even need a Vita to play it.

2013 is a long time, by then Capcom will probably already have released MH4 or is about to release it.

I really wonder what happened to PSV - cancelled ? Or a multi game now ?

Probably thought it wasnt going to be worth making a seperate ps game for vita so just port the pc game insread

how much more powerful is Vita vs 3DS though?

maybe the cost of developing on Vita is closer to PS3 level

have we had any info on this?
All I heard is that Vita was reported to be quite easy to develop for. I'd assume that the cost wouldn't be exorbitant either but that's not necessarily equivalent.

For fans, yes.

In regards to "Here is a list of upcoming games that will make you want a PSVita", for many there wasn't.
I thought the Portable line of games were quite popular on the PSP, like 500k sales. Unless, PSO is fundamentally different, I don't see why people wouldn't get a Vita for it.

Didn't the Phantasy Star Portable games sell at least 500k+ on the PSP? Or am I missing a puzzle piece in that PSO is fundamentally very different from the Portable line?
Phantasy Star Online is a full online RPG. You pay for a subscription and create characters to play online.

If you want to make a game with 3ds level graphics for vita it would cist a similar anount to making a 3ds game, if you want to make a game that pushes the system properly it would cost more like a ps3 game to make

Even if it was it was the direct sequel to a 500k franchise how much hardware do you think it would move?

PSV would have been developed by a different team - in this case Alfa System, at least thats what i thought. Hmm....

I still can't believe how hard Sony drop the ball with PS Vita. And I thought that it was virtually impossible to fail harder than Nintendo with the initial launch of its 3DS system.
For the NeoGAF crowd the launch lineup for Vita's much better than the 3DS. The problem of course is that the NeoGAF crowd isn't the mainstream.

I don't think the difference in power between Vita and 3DS is really that relevant. The Vita is clearly stronger than the 3DS, but developers are going to be working to a minimum baseline which the 3DS meets while the Vita clearly costs a lot more.

Significantly, and it'd absolutely be closer to PS3 level if one were trying to take full advantage if the hardware. Which very few Japanese devs seem interested in doing, hence the problem... and even if they were, you'd probably see more multiplatform PS3/360/Vita titles rather than Vita exclusives.

I disagree. If this was a real Phantasy Star Portable entry announcement exclusive to the Vita, it would be a huge announcement for Japan.
epic bomb

small

With that scale I agree

Vita's launch line-up is way more appealing to the west than in Japan. The problem? I don't think people are looking for "HD console in a pocket" experience. Portables are not popular in the west, this is crucial. Sony somehow is counting Vita will be different, I don't see how. People in the west are just waiting for next-gen HD consoles.

Exactly.

A developer does not have enough faith/resources (at this time) to produce a AAA PSVita title, so they instead announce ports of well known franchises hoping the fan base will 'sit it out' for a year or so.

It's for Sony to lead the charge, and thus far they don't seem bothered (read: "...exceptional sales").

Well, even Nintendo Direct events had more news.
They also reach a large amount of people. Throw some random promo and look at what happens.

07./05. [3DS] Super Mario 3D Land <ACT> (Nintendo) {2011.11.03} (¥4.800) - 21.400 / 1.370.176 (+20%)
08./04. [3DS] Mario Kart 7 <RCE> (Nintendo) {2011.12.01} (¥4.800) - 20.744 / 1.527.266 (-6%)
09./06. [3DS] Monster Hunter 3G # <ACT> (Capcom) {2011.12.10} (¥5.800) - 17.841 / 1.267.675 (+2%)

No wonder Sony is doing their own webcast series, but the impression I have is that they failed pretty hard with their first attempt. Videos with plenty of dislikes, internet rage, Vita doom posts, etc.

Now we wait for E3.

And they weren't wrong at all since most of them are from US and Europe. The big problem lies in Japan, their line up doesn't appeal towards that market. On top of it seems that Sony is unable to react and I'm not asking for miracles.

The 3DS launch lineup in Japan was plain bad, but even so it had one game that sold over 300k units and other that is currently at 500k. Only God knows how long it will take PS Vita to have a game that manages to sell that amount.

Looking at the information we got from the NPD and the European sales thread I'd say you can't really single out one region as the problem child. Neither region has a bright outlook right now.

In the end since western developers will never put serious resources behind handhelds if you lose Japanese support you lose the game.

"PSVita version is less than 10% complete."

So they ARE announcing games in early stages of development. And online-only? Let's hope it doesn't have a fee...

So what happened to PS Victory, Project Diva 3 and Shining Omegaton? Back to PSP? Over to 3DS?

Previous Phantasy Star Online were released only for the Dreamcast and Gamecube.

It's more like an official bomba console series.
PSO was also on Xbox.

Portables are popular in the west
as long as they're made by Nintendo

The Vita port for PSO2 is less than 10% complete, the PC game is coming out this year. It will have a fee. The Vita port is the same game, it just allows you to play while you're on the go as well.

Where does this line of thinking come from? Both the DS and GBA sold better in the west than in Japan.

I've actually known for PSO2 for a few days now. I've also been told (by someone who didn't tell me about PSO) that PSVictory was a joke name. Now, I do not know if that means it was a joke game.

Did the PC and Xbox versions not come out in Japan?

(Not that 'releasing on Xbox in Japan' really disproves the bomba claim :)

I was talking about their lack of support on Vita. FFX isn't enough, especially when it's multiplat with PS3. Compare that with the support they had on the PSP.
The support that took forever to hit? Ppl considered Crisis Core to be vaporware for quite a while.
