Do you think Don Draper is an awful person like so many other people in this thread?

of course he's an awful person?

He just happens to be so fascinating because he's an awful person. And he happens to be, on occasion, genuinely insightful/creative/talented.

- Season 5 promo pics are up at Hitfix

Now I can finally finish up the S5 OP.

and sometimes, just sometimes, a hint of goodness appears (like with his children once in a while, or his interactions with Anna, or with Peggy at the end of The Suitcase). Most of the time he's an asshole, a terrible parent, an insufferable boss... but I still like him, despite all his flaws. As you said, he's fascinating because he's an awful person :)

January Jones finally looking her age, it seems. I hope Betty features more prominently this season - January may be a total bitch in real life, but she's a really underrated actress. Not many actresses can carry five minutes of monologue as well as she did here.

dave is ok

aztek is ok

I think the part of Betty was tailored to January, and it's really the only part she can play as an actress. Even when she was on SNL - she was just Betty in every skit

I just saw First Class. Campiness aside, she's a crappy actress.

Sooo hyped for S5. Not much longer now!

To be fair, she wasn't given much to work with. The writing for everyone except Fassbender/McAvoy was paper thin.

I will admit that she doesn't have as much range as Olsen or Hendricks. I was gobsmacked when I learned she originally auditioned for the role of Peggy

Bert is still around!

Hooray!

Yeah, this is pretty much my thinking as well. People who say she's shitty on Mad Men are just being stupid. She may be shitty in almost everything else, but she has been consistently awesome on Mad Men.

Well it's obviously a high class photo shoot but the point stands, she looks more rigid/old fashioned on the show by a ton. Another more normal pic.

It's crazy how they make Moss seem very old fashioned and rigid with her clothing/hair/everything on the show.

But compare her current dress and hairstyle to the way she looked in Season 1:

Peggy will never be at the forefront of fashion; that's part of her character. That said, I think they've evolved her style quite nicely.

Furthermore, S1 Peggy and S4 Peggy are barely the same person anymore. She still has some lingering confidence issues, but almost everything else has changed.

I just think about that scene in the series premiere where she awkwardly tries to seduce Don, and then the scene in The Suitcase where she's shouting at him at the top of her lungs, claiming he stole all of the credit for Glo-Coat from her.

It's quite a remarkable evolution. She's such an amazing character.

What's also interesting is how drastically the women on the show have changed over the course of the series, while the men have comparatively changed very little and largely been resistant to do so. That includes everything - from their fashion to their politics.

The women have been agents of social change, while the men have obstructed it at every turn.

Most of the change during that time was centred around women so I'd say they're doing a pretty accurate job. I wonder if they take all that into account, or it's just an interesting coincidence.

That's why I find Pete so much more interesting than Don or Roger. He's still a petulant child in some respects, but he's become less and less selfish. I can't wait to see how having a family and being a father affect him this coming season.

Also, based on that NYT interview, my theory for the series finale is
a time skip to the present day.
I'm usually wary of such tricks, but I'm sure Weiner will find something poignant and meaningful enough to say that it will seem natural.

Yeah, I think that would work really well.

Yes. Pete is representative of the younger generation of men who resisted the change of the era at first but because of their youth, had the benefit to choose to adapt. Of course, some didn't. Pete did. One of my favorite scenes from last season was when Don and Roger and him came back from the CLIOs and they had the meeting with Life cereal. I loved Pete's disgust at Don and Roger's drunken antics, their unprofessionalism and irresponsibility.

April 1st is going to kill me. Which show to watch, which not to watch? The Killing, Game of Thrones, Walking Dead.

ALL of them great shows.
