2012 NBA Mar |OT2| The Manhattan Project Part II: Blow It All Up, Again

2009 Cavs the 4th best team of all-time?

I needed a good joke.

Best combined offense and defense when compared to that season's average (furthest from average).

A good team in a season with really crappy teams would come out ahead of a great team among lots of really good teams by such a measurement. So you can't say he 2009 Cavs were better than the 1987 Lakers but you can say the 2009 Cavs were far better than the average 2009 team than the 1987 Lakers were compared to the average 1987 team.

But it does go to show you how badly Cleveland choked. Over 3 standard deviations better than average (4th highest ever) and couldn't make the conference finals!

It's a miracle that those Cleveland teams were so good. It was all Lebron. He's a playoff choker, but the roster for those Cleveland teams were garbage. The best player he ever played with was Anderson Varejao and he never had a legitimate second option. Lebron doesn't have a ring, but he got Mo Williams into the all star game and he got Mike Brown coach of the year. Those accomplishments are probably better.

That team was quite good defensively, and LeBron definitely can't take the credit there.

Lebron is at the very least a good defender. Remember him guarding Rose in the playoffs last year? It's not like he's Steve Nash on defense.

It's no wonder why he left Cleveland. He played with Eric Snow, Larry Hughes, JJ Hickson, Anthony Parker, etc. Oh, and Fat Shaq (who was injured most of the time) and hobbled Big Z.

Well smaller markets have a harder time acquiring additional talent even with a big star. Once the "he's gonna leave" pressure starts to sink in, they often panic and acquire aging talent at ridiculous costs. See: Orlando.

Good jon to the classless Monta Ellis loving fucks who ruined Chris Mullin's retirement ceremony. Never been so embarassed to be a Warriors fan. smh

I thought the boos had to do more with 30 years of sucking and the same shit eating grin and promises from ownership?

Seems like it was purely from idiot Monta haters, or people who don't think he should be involved. Lacob has only been owner for 12 months, if it was Cohan I could understand the booing.

Anyway now I'm a bit more calm, the Warriors game today was awesome. Mullin, Timmy and Mitch were on commentary, as was Nellie. Mitch Ritchmond looked like he ate Billy Owens, while Timmy looked not a day over 30.

Nellie was awesome, and said "you don't win with 6'3" two guards".

Terry and the Mavs won it all last year too..

Ok I need to watch this ceremony, Warriors beat writers going insane on twitter.

6h Ethan Strauss ‏ @SherwoodStrauss
Timing had much to do with this. The trade + Steph in a suit (I don't hate either move, btw) signaled the season's end

6h Tim Kawakami Tim Kawakami ‏ @timkawakami
When Rick Barry grabbed the microphone to lecture the fans, I thought all hell might break loose. But it was just part of the calamity.

6h warriorsworld warriorsworld ‏ @warriorsworld
Pull ya Skirt Down RT @WarriorsRndTbl what an embarrassment at Oracle tonight. Put damper on celebrating a great Warrior

6h Tim Kawakami Tim Kawakami ‏ @timkawakami
Did he deserve that treatment? No. But when you demand to be front and center at this kind of event, you oughta know it could happen.

6h Tim Kawakami Tim Kawakami ‏ @timkawakami
Joe Lacob looked stunned that he was almost booed off the floor at Mullin's ceremony. Think that was pent-up frustration, but... my goodness

6h Matt Steinmetz Matt Steinmetz ‏ @MSteinmetzCSN
It was eerily similar to when former owner Chris Cohan got booed at the 2001 All-Star game in Oakland.

6h Matt Steinmetz Matt Steinmetz ‏ @MSteinmetzCSN
Really don't know what to say about halftime ceremony. Incredibly surprised by the booing of Lacob.

6h warriorsworld warriorsworld ‏ @warriorsworld
I was expecting Mark Jackson to take the mic and break into a full on sermon

Eric Freeman ‏ @freemaneric
Surprised Rick Barry didn't tell everyone he should be the coach during that speech.

This is UN-FREAKING-BELIEVABLE

7h Marcus Thompson Marcus Thompson ‏ @gswscribe
I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS

7h warriorsworld warriorsworld ‏ @warriorsworld
THIS IS AWESOMEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

7h Ethan Strauss Ethan Strauss ‏ @SherwoodStrauss
Rick Barry to the crowd: "You're doing yourselves a disservice"

7h Geoff Lepper Geoff Lepper ‏ @geofflepper
And know the boos start again. Now Rick Barry gets a mic. This IS INCREDIBLE.

7h Marcus Thompson Marcus Thompson ‏ @gswscribe
NOW RICK BARRY IS UP DEFENDING LACOB!!!!

7h warriorsworld warriorsworld ‏ @warriorsworld
TEARRRRSSSSSSSSSSS

7h Rusty Simmons Rusty Simmons ‏ @Rusty_SFChron
Now, Rick Barry is giving it a try. The boos only increase.

7h Ethan Strauss Ethan Strauss ‏ @SherwoodStrauss
Rick Barry interjection time. This is a rollercoaster

7h Marcus Thompson Marcus Thompson ‏ @gswscribe
Mullin takes mic to vouch Joe Lacob: "Everything will work out just fine. Use that passion." ... Mullin sits down, fans start booing AGAIN

7h Ethan Strauss Ethan Strauss ‏ @SherwoodStrauss
Jeff Ross just rescued The Situation

7h warriorsworld warriorsworld ‏ @warriorsworld
Lacob was bout to go postal lololol

7h Geoff Lepper Geoff Lepper ‏ @geofflepper
Mullin comes up to save Lacob: "Sometimes change is inevitable, and it's going to work out just fine."

Seems like it was a culmination of things

warriorsworld ‏ @warriorsworld
Lacob getting the boo birds is not just about the Monta trade, its built up frustration from fans, broken promises, long talk, short results

Ray Ratto ‏ @RattoCSN
@sam_amick May I? It's 6 playoffs in 36 yrs, 1 in 18. It's about promising playoffs, finishing 13th. It's about grandstanding Mullin's night

Also wanting to talk AFTER Mullin, which was a stupid idea. Also Stern on the video got booed as well.

jeez i just saw the bulls - magic score. what the hell happened there? bulls very good D or orlando just bad?

2nd game of a back to back after a game against the Heat. Magic played like garbage last night, it happens.

If you want to get into the bullshit about whether or not Orlando would make the playoffs in the West just keep in mind that the Miami is 7-5 against teams in the West this season. I guess they wouldn't make the playoffs either.

Asik needs to cut that shit out. He did it in the Philly game too.

anytime you can wake up on the morning and you can turn to Charmed on TV and be reminded how much of a fine woman Alyssa Milano and Shannen Doherty are

you gotta do it

East-West head to head record is bullshit while a small sample size of 12 games with the same team is not? The West collectively won 57% of their games against the East. Also, a 7-5 record is 58%, that's still pretty good even if that's the only thing you take into account.

You are delusional if you don't think the Magic would have a worse record playing in the West. 3-4 more losses and they'd be barely clinging onto a playoff spot.

lolz

God I love Mully :(

edit: LOL @ the booing starting as soon as Mullin sitting down.

It was very clear that Mullin was loved. Best part was the cheering when he stood up to help recover the situation and the instant booing when he sat back down.

I am a wolves fan just watching because it was on but I can 100% relate the overall feeling of the fans. It has taken nearly 10 years to finally be positive around here but those years stack up and are so draining as fans. So that is what I felt as I watched that.. good for the fans to voice their overall distaste for decades of what they have put up with.

What exactly are the fans upset about? The man should be getting a standing ovation for being able to trade Monta and getting actual value back.

yeah but the fans in that arena were being fucking stupid, rick barry was right. there's a different time and place for that shit.

actually, Rick Barry was probably the one pissed that they ruined his own night. and then Lacob was probably embarrassed to be a grown man having another grown man try to shield him

Still better than Clippers fans who are whining about this season. You'd think being over .500 would be good enough for a franchise that's only finished above .500 in a season 6 times in 41 years.

You don't just go from the most futile franchise in the history of professional sports to title aspirations in a single season. Gotta keep it real.
Title aspirations? Eh... I don't think too many clip fans jumped that high, but they should definitely be better than they are.

Love the espn poll yesterday.

Do you want derek fisher on your team? Entire country is red (no).

Yet they keep pushing him like he fucking matters. He might have been the second worst point guard on a roster after duhon.

Is there a county by county break down? Because I'm pretty sure Orange County would have said yes. And I'm not talking about Cali :(

While watching the Clips Pistons game on Sunday, the douchey color guy was pining on about how Chauncey was a true Clipper; I laughed but then realized that Chauncey had a nasty season ending injury and thought maybe he had a point.
