The King Of Fighters XIII + Steam Edition |OT| Now on Steam with Improved Netcode!

billy is good if you want to start learning using normals more. he has strong and far-reaching normals. his corner combos are fun. kim can kick anything out of the air, but he is good everywhere. he will suck if you play runaway-laggers online though, don't pick him if you're playing huge delay games. mr karate is just badass.

Oh and this is probably the most balanced fighter right now.

This is correct and it's beautiful. Theres still tiers but it's not as bad as other games which is good enough for me.

Just goes to show when a company does arcade versions and uses them as the basis for patching the later console version they really care about it being a good game and not just some cinematic fanboy drivel. :)

Played 10 games straight yesterday on ranked against the same guy. L3gendaryRyu or something like that on Xbox Live. I won none of them.

Got close several times, but just couldn't clutch it out. I felt my Andy was the only reason I stayed in it to final character matches against him. Every other character I tried got lit the fuck up baaaad.

Anyone in a state near Colorado who knows something about this game want to run some sets with me tonight and give some pointers? I could really use it. :(

There's no point in playing this game online at all anymore- nothing but droppers and lag abusers (use moves that are safe online but punishable offline)

It's so bad that even SFvsTK is a better online game, despite being a much worse game. If Arcana was still active I'd play that. KOF's still a great game offline, but online is now effectively dead.

So word on the twitter is that KOF will have one more chance for MLG at Anaheim, Cali with a smaller pool (5k). Anybody know when their event takes place?

Also been going to Local Battles the past several weeks to their ranbats. Anybody had experience as far as trying to stir up interest for KOF? try and a station or two set up on the side in the casuals area?

it's getting harder to find random people online, i agree. i'm mainly playing people on my friend list currently.

SFvsTK is the newest capcom fighter, those will always have the largest player base. i tried a couple of games online, but i don't think it's my game at all. i felt like i couldn't move around in it like i wanted to, and you get punished too much for being too offensive. not much difference from SFIV. it's fun when you have a local buddy to beat up others online, but that doesn't change the core game. didn't have much problems with the netcode surprisingly. just some minor sound drops.

Meh, still better than nothing. I just ditch accounts when I reach lvl 20 or so, the higher you are the less matches you tend to play. Not being able to hide lvls/player data is still one of my main gripes with the game.

<--has no offline competition

In a way I am cursed, the matches with the best connections are usually against level 20+ peeps who really know how to put the pressure on.

These days, how limited is 200 units for an arcade release? Sure, it's a small number, but are there THAT many arcades that would buy this in Japan...pretty much what I'm asking is if there will be enough for whatever arcades outside of Japan want it :|

KOF XIII didn't really light up the arcades, and wasn't necessarily a smash hit in Japan. The console version actually took off more outside of japan than in japan itself. It looks like this release is for the sake of releasing it to whatever arcades get high enough KOF traffic.

Anyone else notice that KOF XIII seems to be drawing a bigger crowd now? Is the FGC moving toward it due to its nice balance or something? I've just been noticing a lot of tweeting online from players about this game and I've noticed it getting larger crowds spectating on streams than normal when I watch streams of it.

Oh for the day KOF becomes popular in the states...

Interest is definitely growing. I'm starting to get into it. The SoCal vs NorCal 5v5 at SCR got me into it.

I'm trying to sell a guy I've chatted fighting games with for awhile on the franchise as a whole. He's only played Samurai Showdown and has gotten sick of UMVC3 due to balance and such. Says he's looking for a game that wont get you killed in one combo but doesn't involve combos of an average of maybe 5 hits like SF4. KOF seems the best choice IMO.

SFxTekken is fun and all, but the shenanigans and such turned him off of it pretty quick with all the stuff going on there.

It was awesome explaining the meter usage and guard break stuff to him. He got REALLY excited when I described K' and his Fire Crow. Guy is a Ken player of old. He also loved the description of footsies when I told him about hops. To be truthful if the guy still had a ps2 I'd just grab him a KOF title like 11 or orochi saga to intro him for the cost of a combo meal so he could make up his mind.

I'm expecting since KOFXIII is going on sale for $30 at gamestop on 4-1 though that he'll buy. Oh BTW KOFXIII is going on sale for $30 on the first of the month...should've mentioned that first. lol.

If he has a 360 convince him to give 98 or 2002 UM a try first. 98UM will play to his old sensibilities and 2002UM will gear him up for 13 with MAX MODE. I don't see how you could go wrong suggesting either one to him.

or better yet, ask them to download the Demo for XIII. The fatal fury team and Nest Team are available to play, which is a nice and varied cast.

OK everyone is saying that Robert is top tier but I cant find any videos of him in any matches. Anyone see any?

Speaking of Robert, I can't do his Trial 1 for some reason. I can't time the c.B into f+B, and when I do, I can't go from f+B into f,b,f+K. Bah.

I can't even get 2x c. B, f+B. f+B to come out, I always get st. B. WTF.

You can cheat on this one. Cancel the f+B into HCF+BD and juggle with f,b,f+k.

c.B into c.A is a timed link and the f+B must be done almost instantly after the c.A.

Bala used him very effectively during the MLG casuals:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4t5...DvjVQa1PpcFOsw4X-rw0djHbSxPlrV5JHF2HQ7u_ZSyM=

The thing about Robert is that he has a lot of tools and tricks but damage scaling tends to hit him pretty hard so his damage output overall isn't very hot. Combos are stylish and meter heavy but once you look at the numbers its often not worth the meter spent. His HD combos seem to be hit or miss as well so far.

That's cool for operators who want to import the game I guess, but I still don't understand why this isn't getting a Nesica Live release. Am I missing something?

Ah I forgot BALA sometimes playing him. Robert's really a bit of a rarity otherwise in high-level matches though.

BTW N4US thanks once again for your hospitality along with everyone else at Southtown, wish I was still there.

Yeah definitely, I always enjoy outside competition.

Also just because

XI was very underrated, wished more ppl in the States would play it.

I loved 11 and Shion and Oswald are now forever on my "do want" list for KOF cast in new SNK titles.

BTW the guy I'm trying to get into KOF is wanting to know what the differences are between 11, 13, and Unlimited (one with nameless)

I'm pretty scrub and only ever casual these games and mainly just leave streams up as I do college. Anyone feel solid fielding this one for me on play mechanics?

2k2UM and XIII are the most similar of the three when it comes to mechanics, hell, they're almost the same. XI is the KoF closest to Marvel in a way in that it's actually a tag game and that it's pretty broken with a really strong top tier (KGO), pretty much the only things it shares with 2k2 and XIII are the most basic ones.

2k2UM can be good to prepare for XIII, but XI is way too different for it to help.

Thanks. I actually got 2k2UM and played some of it and XIII tonight to see what you mean and yeah they really are similar. Also after playing it I really miss Angel. I miss seeing The People's Elbow done in KOF matches. So wish I could use it on Raiden...

Oh well. With or without her KOF XIII is awesome. Pretty sure I can sell him on it now.
