A NeoGAF iPhone Web App

so we can click on forum links in thread without fear? Praise be!
Forum links inside threads have always been converted to secondapps.com links when clicking from inside the web app. Try it now. It's only when you click from outside, e.g. a Google search, that they lead to the full site (which will of course be alleviated when the app is moved to neogaf.com).

Great work!

Only thing is usually on the old theme your posts and threads show up in green. Is there something for the dark theme?
It would be cool if this can be customized in the preferences. On GAF prime I set it up to match the GAF colors (using an extension obviously);

Stands out a lot more than a light blue or green hue when scrolling down fast, imo. Also just looks appropriate. Something generally like that for mobile gaf would seem more suiting than green, imo.

Yup, this was super, super annoying when in GAF IRC on mobile, with people linking to threads left and right.

CrudeDiatribe (or was it Zeppu?) came up with a nifty little bookmark solution that converted the link to the web app version, which was helpful. It'll just be cool to get past that, though. "integrated". :D

The dark theme seems to still overlay green on top of your posts and quotes, but it's much less noticeable when using the dark theme. I think that the dark theme should highlight your posts with some kind of light gray gradient or something.

Not sure if I don't know how to use this app properly, (new to GAF) but is there a way to subscribe to threads with this app? Could some one please show me how to do that?
Thanks in advanced.

If you want to subscribe to a thread without posting in it, just click the Tools button at the bottom-right of a thread page.

Otherwise, set your subscriptions options to "subscribe without email." That way, you will auto-subscribe to any thread that you post in.

One negative to all the recent changes around here is that now neogaf.net is just a redirect and not a mirror and so the web filter at work now knows to block neogaf as gaming :(

I notice sometimes when I go to the last page of a thread it's not refreshing correctly and I'm not actually on the last page. Also there's something weird with the logo at the left corners. It looks like there's a chip in the right side of it or something.

Other than that, looks great. Still love using it even with the recent improvements to the full site.

Umm how do I access the OT Community with the web app? And what is this new version everyone is talking about? The web app hasn't changed in a few months for me. Am I missing something?

We're in the process of setting things up on the server configuration end in preparation for hosting NeoGAF Mobile. That should be taken care of this weekend, and then it should be pretty straightforward to go live.

'Scuse me for asking, but what's the plan on this? Is it going to be a redirect based on user-agent or will there be separate URLs one must enter? I would really love it if it were the former so that links to other threads will redirect to whatever version you're on irrespective if the mobile or prime version of the URL is submitted. I get a sneaky suspicion that once the mobile version goes mainstream many people will start posting links to the mobile version.

Yes, that has been taken into account, and the intention is to have seamless redirects between mobile and prime urls.

@EvilLore @ckohler
Can one opt out of the mobile version and get the regular site? Not me, but I'm sure there are other people would.

Ckohler can you post the old Web apps code after it's obsolete? I'd be really interested in looking at it.
Would love to see the innards too, if you decide to.

This is the thing, auto-redirects are great but on certain devices some may want to choose one over the other based purely on personal preference. I think imbedded integration for switching between the two would make sense as well, something like this;

And an equivalent option on the mobile version (main menu under user options), such as 'GAF Prime' or whatever it be called. That way switching between the two across whatever device can be an easy option.

PS. ckohler, I noticed there isn't any 'about' or info page in this version, and there is a nice open spot in the bottom right corner of the main page. I'd suggest adding a button there with a (i) symbol on it which gives information about the web app and basic directions, shortcuts etc, like an FAQ of sorts. Something like that could also help out with that jump to bottom thing talked about earlier. ;)

I am absolutely loving the mockup. It looks very sweet. But I have a couple of questions.

1. Could someone explain the multi-quote function?
2. Did I read something about subscribing to every thread you post in?

The only thing I wish for is a quick italic option, as well as a quick bold option when replying to a thread.

Otherwise, amazing work ckohler. Thanks. :)

1. If you want to quote more than 1 reply you can tap the plus icon on every post then hit reply at the bottom of the page. It will automatically add the posts in quote tags in order of selection for you to reply to.

2. Every time you post in a thread it automatically adds the thread to your subscription list.

ckohler already has a trick where he redirects full GAF urls to the mobile version when using the secondapps site. I think that's best: redirect based on the current version that the reader is using rather than the user agent or the URL.

Yeah, I'd switche between the two based on my current use case rather than the device itself. I'd love to use the mobile site on my desktop when following a fast moving thread with lots of images (e.g. apple keynote thread) but thats not an option now.

Is the look and feel of the App supposed to be any different? It looks the exact same it always has for me, even after deleting my cache, etc..

That's different. He parses the URL itself during rendering and replaces www.neogaf.com with secondapps.com/mockup.

Go to /mockup, cringe, go back to the old one while you still can!
Mockup 4 lyfe!!!

Can't wait until its used by the site proper in the near future. We've talked about it for at least a year or two and its finally happening.

Probably an indicator of just how much traffic is coming through the site on mobile devices these days...or at least pre-emptively preparing for their dominance.

I like everything except the placement of the ads. I wish we could pay to get rid of them. They just take up too much real estate on mobile devices for me to enjoy using the app personally.

Looks sexy though!
