You are missing the point of the control scheme.
Sure, make it dual analog for a sequel (to appeal to the masses), but they would have to slow down the action or come up with some way to auto-lock or quick-turn or something.
All I know is...
There best be Metroid near launch.
As morbid as it may sound to some, I'd prefer there be some dread to go along with that announcement though.
Heh, you should work as a consultant for the Trauma games.![]()
People don't realize that the controls in many games are the vision of the developer and not worked in as if they are putting a square peg in a round hole.
It's all by design.
Just because you want it this way or think it should be this way, it's not up to us and shouldn't be.
Wait....I was defending KIU's controls.....I think they are unique and quite brilliant.
Yeah, I know you were.
It just brought up to me the thought of people not adjusting to control schemes that they scoff at.
I don't believe half of the people give the schemes a chance and just blast them because it's not simple.

A couple of posts late, but I think I disagree. That would inrease the rift between non-Nintendo fans and diehard Nintendo fans even more. Nintendo Direct is a nice solution to making announcements that other gaming sites would catch on. At least if nothing huge is revealed ("hype train defusal"), nothing is lost. Only when certain major bombs are dropped do people start noticing, but I think lowkey announcements would be the right thing to do for them to keep momentum going.I talk all the time about Nintendo needing to give the finger to the major gaming news sites, instead deciding to go more directly to the fans via Nintendo-centric fansites. In this, I kinda wish that Nintendo would leak things to them and give them breaking news before anyone else. It would certainly add a bit more of a bond between the company and the Nintendo community.
I bought Other M for $5 + free shipping and it was the best $5 I ever spent.
Also, I haven't said anything about the (most likely true) rumors of Wii U being at or below 360 level, but I will say I'm pretty disappointed.

I've learned to ignore it all. I'm honestly in ignore everything mode until E3.Umm, why do you believe anonymous rumours instead of the people in here with contacts and developers publicly saying it's more powerful?
I think I need to take a self imposed NeoGaf holiday, this is driving me nuts.
I'm imagining this place around the time when it was announced that Sega would be exiting the hardware scene. It must've been horriffic.
I've made a handy tool for everyone out there who wants to write a story about the Wii U's 'power level'.
(Any suggestions for additions?)

You are teh winner. A winner is you!KI does not need dual analog.
It needs wiimote controls. That would be GLORIOUS.

You mean the anonymous posters in this thread and their anonymous contacts?

I was here..good times. Futami anyone? Lol
I didn't read what Randy Pitchford from Gearbox said about Wii U before but I'm not sure if I like the way how he described the system... a "really nice bridge to next gen"... a bridge? that's it? a bridge? He praises the system, yes, but calling it a bridge? it sounds like if it was stuck in between.
I don't know, maybe I'm reading too much into it =/

Yeah, it's not what I want to hear but I understand it. We know it's not the uber leap of massive graphics that our hearts, minds and eyes want to see, but it will still be a nice boost over what's out now and we'll get great Nintendo games with 3rd party support and an awesome controller with unlimited possibilities.
Oh shit, I think I just said something positive.
I refuse to believe that a console that produced that Zelda demo in real time is anything less than at least twice as powerful as PS360.
From what i have read on here the Wii U specs should read like this -
The 360 has a graphics card that is in power terms 240 GFLOPS
The Wii U has a graphics card that is in power terms at least 1000 (rumoured to be 1200) GFLOPS
The 360 has 512MB's of Ram.
Version 4 of the Wii U dev kit has 3 GB's of Ram (most dev kits have twice as much Ram as the retail console tho so it will have 1.5 GB's of Ram).
The Wii U's CPU is around the same as the 360's but it has a separate chip for sound which is a big deal as around a third of this gen's CPU power on consoles is used for Audio on games so it will perfom around 30% better.
actually, we have verified developers that have access to dev kits/console
just to let you know

That statement actually doesnt bother me at all. Calling it a bridge. We know it wont be as powerful as the next from MS or Sony, so whats wrong with calling it a bridge. Just means its better than the current offerings.

I feel the same way pretty much about the bird demo. Even without the extra controller screen rendering, the general consensus was that it's more than anything the 360 could pump out in real time.
This was cast into doubt recently. Somebody looked back at the Japanese (Game Watch, I think it was?) interview involving the AMD engineer, and it turned out the "over 1000 GFLOPS" part was speculation. The thing about being able to handle Samaritan in 720p (would require 1111⅑ GFLOPS) was a rumour, to boot. I personally believe it, though, but it is not certainty.
Got a source on that specific number? The most I've specifically heard was that one of the dev kits had 2GB (that was from the second version of this thread, actually). While impressions from IdeaMan, who is not Nintendo but whom I choose to trust, suggest that it is indeed at least 1.5 GB*, we certainly don't know it as a fact. Additionally, if we were to take IdeaMan's word as correct, then a lot of that memory (possibly a significant amount more than 0.5GB!) is apparently unavailable to games.
This is true, even though the difference is not staggering.
I agree with your general sentiment, though. It's nearly impossible for the Wii U, based on what we have seen and what little actual facts we have at our disposal, to not be greater in performance than the Xbox 360.
* I should note that the original discussion was along the lines of "IdeaMan: so it turns out there's more than 1GB. SomeGuy: I knew it, 1.5GB!!! IdeaMan: Let me emphasize that I was really surprised at how much higher it was."

I could even see less focus on Kirby and more attention toward Donkey Kong Country.
The 1.5GB was loooong before IdeaMan started posting. And lherre himself said at least 2GB in the kit.
Okay, but the number I was wondering about was the 3GB devkit memory assertion. I don't remember that at all.
First thread. Lherre told us the dev kits normally have twice the amount of memory as the retail version for debugging. He also said at least 2GB. Nintendo's own target specs said up to 1.5GB so that's how we got 3GB.
The full assertion was "devkits have 3GB therefore systems have 1.5GB". I understand how you can infer in the opposite direction taking the 1.5 number as a given, but the poster back there was using 3GB as an existing fact and deriving the 1.5 number from that.
I was just wondering if we had at some point been explicitly told that the kits at one point has 3GB. If we had, then it would be an *additional* data point contributing to the evidence that the system will have ≥1.5GB.
