A NeoGAF iPhone Web App

Last Post has been working fine for me even in image heavy threads, it just stutters around the page as the images load in but then settles on the last post read as it should once loading is done. Isn't it doing this for everyone?

It does, it's just jarring and not really useable when it's doing all that.

^Really? It's not like that happens all the time, and even if it does, i'd very much rather end up being somewhere in the vicinity of page 4 where I left off than page 7 and not know where I last was.

Same here, the 'go to first new post' link has been a bit wonky lately for me, but I don't mind being a few posts off the discussion rather than a few days/several hundred posts away.

It may be that once this is hosted on the GAF servers things improve as the webapp won't be scraping from a different source.

I'm just here to smugly tell you that this doesn't happen at all on SuperiorOS™.

There is an option in preferences on what you want the Thread arrow to do.

You know what I would like to see in preferences please? Date format. I want to be able to set it to dd-mm please. You think that's possible ckohler?

It's because there are photos loading after the rest of the page loads, often shifting around the exact position on the page. It's better that it's there at all imo.
I agree. I do find it a bit annoying in image-heavy threads, like the B/S/T thread, but it's only because I am impatient and try to start scrolling while it loads. But overall I think the feature is great. I have never been in the habit of using the 'go to last post' function on any forum really, but I use it damn-near all the time on the mockup. I love it; makes coming back to quick-moving threads easier.

Another forum I'm on loads images as you scroll toward that post. I don't know if that's possible but it seems as if that would solve the problem.

The arrow going to last unread is definitely my most welcomed feature on /mockup, always missed it on /neogaf. For image-heavy pages you can also just stop the loading of the browser instead of waiting for it to settle. Not the best solution but at least you can start reading the posts quickly since it loads the text of the entire page at once and then starts loading the images.

Yes which is why I don't use it anymore. I just go to the last page instead.

It wasn't your fault. Someone else had caused the timeout. That's why you got the message. If one person uses up all the login attempts, the web app has to temporarily block all logins regardless of user until the timeout expires.

I assume on the live implementation that all that is gone?

Also, as an aside I've trained myself to use the menu at the top right for faster navigation and leaning on subscriptions more to get around...a bit more work, but it looks like this is the new GAF and I'd better adapt.

This weekend I switched over to using the "Jump to first unread" option for a while. In doing so, I discovered the bug some of you were talking about where if you click the in app refresh button it would jump you back up to the first unread post when it should just keep you were you are and just load the new content beneath. I realize now what was going on and that wasn't behavior I was expecting.

So, I fiddled around and made a change that I think has fixed it. Now, if you click that button or one of the "tap to reveal" image buttons, it should no longer move. It should stay in place. It required me to change the hash in the URL to a non-entity (#disabled). So, those of you who had turned off the "Jump to first unread" feature because of the bug might want to try it again.

Of course, the issue with images loading slowly causing the page to jump until it finishes loading is still an issue and not one that can be fixed.

Also, I have not heard any news yet on the install progress. Just so the mods know, they can just PM me if they are waiting on me for any reason. Until then, I'll work on the assumption things are still being prepped.

Waiting on maharg to set things up, yeah, will let you know.

Can we please talk about the text input field?

Why on earth is it so small? It makes writing, quoting and editing long posts really hard and annoying.

It used to be really long but that caused problems for Android users. Something about their not being able to type into the field or something. I'll look back through the thread and see if I can find the exact issue. The solution (at the time) was to just shorten the height of the field.

Why doesn't the reply field stay at a set percentage width? No reason for it to not be flexible to the browser width while maintaining set margins and padding.

It would be great if the "last page" button was also still located at the top like on the original seconapps page. I hate having to scroll down to the bottom if for some reason I need to skip to the end(especially with 100 posts per page!). Also if there was a a way to jump to all the different sections on the bottom of the page, that would be great too.

Regardless, all of this stuff is awesome and has provided me countless hours of gaf browsing!!

Just tap the blue header and it'll jump you down without having to scroll.

Using the new app regularly now and images seem to load much slower. Some not at all, though that had been an issue before too, it's even more apparent now.

Since this thread is pretty long and I havent seen a recent reply to this I ask: is there a way to see the off topic community with it? I only see the community thread for gaming and I feel like I might have missed something about how to access the other community thread.

Probably already mentioned, but figured i should mention it.

going into a thread through the last page arrow keeps bringing me a few pages before the actual last page.

Make sure in your web app preferences (found under the 4 box icon in the top right) that your arrow functionality is set to last page and not "last unread". That's probably what's going on there.
