First Halo 4 GI information (Spartan OPs, multi, etc) [Update: Campaign/More Details]

- Being able to instantly respawn and get back into the action rather than watching an enemy corpse hump your dead body for ten seconds? That's a good thing.
Not necessarily, and especially so for objective games. That respawn timer allows the team that has taken the initiative and decimated the other side to solidify their gains (grab the flag/bomb) etc. And depending upon spawn locations you may end up with those COD situations where you take down an enemy only to have him spawn right behind you a second later.

I'd feel a lot more comfortable about these changes if there was a beta.

People need to calm down with the "CoDified" complaints. Most of the features that 343 lifted from CoD do not really affect the core Halo gameplay at all and simply make sense.

- Join in progress ensuring teams are always fair rather than playing a stacked game of 2vs8? Good thing.
- Sprinting as a base trait, like literally every other shooter on the market? Good thing.

It's not gonna be a straight up CoD clone. It will still play like Halo and have jumping, shields, armor abilities, vehicles in MP (I assume), and a unique weapon sandbox not found in other games.

I'm gonna assume you've never played more than like 12 games of Halo because these changes pretty much makes it not even Halo any more.

And let's be honest, with the oversaturation from Call of Duty titles, there are plenty of people looking for a different experience.

And Halo 4 looks set to offer this. Sure it has loadouts but fuck me if it plays anything similarly to COD.

Does Halo 4 have killstreaks? Does COD have jetpacks, active camo, holograms, etc? Does it take a 3 bullet spray to kill in Halo 4? Do you traverse your environments in a similar way?

Sprint in a game where people die as slowly as in Halo isn't a good thing. The only reason it's in there is "because every other game has it".

Not if the spawns can still make it so you get killed from behind as soon as you spawn, having a proper system to stop that is much more important then having the same problem happen with less time between it.

Tribes Ascend is very popular, and with good reason. Might be the only multiplayer game these days that requires skill.

That's good to hear. I've been interested in it, but haven't tried it. But I imagine it's easier for a quality FPS to get an audience on the PC than consoles. I don't think there's been a quality console shooter that hasn't aped CoD in some time.

OK, stupid question time: Has Halo 4 been confirmed to have a 4 player co-op campaign?

I only ask because of this Spartan Ops mode.

It's not a CoD-clone, but having unlocks tied to levelling up and Spartan Points changes Halo at it's very core, because you do not have an equal footing anymore. That makes much of the changes your listing just gravy on top of a much more major change.

This. But let's be honestly, at least a couple people here have likely never loaded up a Call of Duty game. Like that one guy saying they tweaked map control to cater to the CoD crowd, but somehow left in power weapons and armor abilities. And as if NO ONE in the Halo community has ever complained about weapon campers...

If they wanted to emulate CoD, they would just make weapon pickups from fallen soldiers.

The X-Ray thing sounds like a "perk", unlocked at getting for example a killing spree. Which means it will last for 20 sec or more. Doesn't sound to bad to be honest.

Really? Why does a player on a killing spree need wallhack? That is counterintuitive.

In Halo I've found myself wanting an alternative way of aiming. If not ADS, just something ...different, than the regular view and scopes. Would have liked some innovation there.

It's better then Reach implementation where AB where cooled down for 5-10 seconds and you can reuse them. Imagine somebody having that x-ray vision with 5-10 seconds cool down, constant irritation for everyone but the user.

It's just my idea about it though, just linking it up with the whole perk thing they have been talking about.

Killstreak reward/perk/ability/thing.

I will just call it a perk rather than Kill Streak.

I forget who said it but I would be fine with the AAs if you have to find a power core on the map like Equipment to use the AAs and you have to find another one to use it again rather than have it be a constant thing.

- Don't die so often and don't be so sensitive (it's a virtual ballsac anyways).
- Quit the game. That's why they need to get rid of that quit penalty ban.
- No.

Where does he get the scope from? Is it in his backpack all the time? Couldn't he just pull it out earlier?

I see all kinds of serious problems with the suspension of disbelief here.

Assuming the random weapon spawns happen like in Reach's firefight, I think that it could be really cool as its own game mode. Forcing teams to move around the map to wherever the rocket, sniper, etc. drops.

Nothing more fun than having to play against your friends because some badkids on the other team couldn't handle your team's donging capabilities.

The way it worked in Halo 2 was players on a team with a higher player count would be in a queue until someone died. Not exactly fun, but it's a better solution than a 8 on 5 or whatever beatdown.

Instant spawns will heavily derail any objective games. I'm hopefully going to assume that they won't have that enabled in objective based modes. That said, I'm still hopefully we get a large dose of gametypes listed sometime this summer, and there's a good playlist for skirmish stuff right out of the gate. Regicide is the new gametype, and is seemingly FFA only, so that's fine and dandy. Hopefully the 4v4 and 8v8 stuff is mostly Flag and Bomb.

Also really curious on the melee (strength) and vehicle front. That's a big combat changer for me in these types of games.

That's party splitting. There was a setting they called "force even teams" in each game but they never seemed to enable it for online games, unless it was in some party games like some SWAT elimination, or something similar.
