Holy crap! Today's real megaton is that more than two people can have the same first name.
How come we never hear that of Sony?

Hey Sony? Take those excellent IPs of yours and bring them to the iPhone! You'll make a mint!

Because they are Sony's IPs.....

Example: when Nintendo's "doomed", you hear plenty of trolls saying "Can't wait to play Mario/Zelda/Metroid on my 360".
I have never, ever, heard a Nintendo troll saying "Can't wait to play Uncharted/Infamous/Resistance on my Wii."

Trivia: on this day in 2006, Ubisoft officially announced Red Steel for the Wii.

Soon thereafter, magazine articles and online articles began to appear with information and screenshots about the upcoming title.

(of course, E3 was a month earlier that year..)

I always make that argument about fanaticism and the different consoles.

I could understand being a Sega fanboy and a Nintendo fanboy. But being a fanboy of the other consoles? Not so much.

There's an important lesson here. Remember that any game that you can get seriously hyped about can turn out to be not what you were hoping for. When the Wii U third party games get announced, look at them with a more critical eye.

edit: My actual intended moral is that the announced Ubisoft FPS for Wii U will also suck.

Okay, I wil...OMG LOOK AT DOSE GRAPHIX! 300x 360 CONFIRMED!

Red Steel suffered from a few things though.
Namely, the fact that it was made so quickly.
While a game like Killer Freaks will have over twice the development time, and will be using a much better engine.

Absolutely.

In fact, I've been thinking about this lately. For the Wii launch, I had one huge title that I was certain would be worthy of a week off of work: Twilight Princess.

Now, Pikmin 3 would be fantastic.. but I'm not sure I'm willing to spend a large chunk of vacation time for it. Which leaves me wondering: what truly AAA games are we going to see that will warrant such a vacation? My skepticism learned from the Wii launch has led me to not jump to conclusions about what titles are going to be "worthy" of such action.

So have we run out of things to speculate about?

Price - check
GPU - check
CPU - check
RAM - check
Launch Titles - check
HDD - Check
Controller features - check

Might as well close the thread I guess.

Time off work launch games? I would only really take a day anyway but Zelda and Metroid obvious ones for me. You know, if there was some pack like the all Batman games, or a special Skyrim or GTA release I might do it too. Actually now I think about it I might take the day off anyway just to play with the thing.

Thanks for the support IceDoesntHelp, GameplayWhore & HylianTom. I hope it's earlier, even 11 PST would be great, but that doesn't kill my hype. This E3 will be amazing!
Yep the fiscal year results usually are great for new announcements.

Hopefully Nintendo has a Direct show to showcase said new announcements.
What notable announcements have been revealed at these keynotes? As you said, it would be perfect for game reveals and more WiiU details(specially if they do a Nintendo Direct about it).

I hope we get at least something that clears up some rumours, like thename change one, and some game reveals (even just a logo?)

Nintendo Network, The Wii U last year (though it was only a tease) various games and such (like Kirby).

Do you count ports, like "Arkham City: Really Late But Slightly Superior Edition"?

Nope, never.

Don't you know? NoA's new strategy is to let NoE localize every niche title from now on! Every title that sells well in Europe, we'll get.
Months later.

Back on topic: What is the likelihood of a DS/3DS player for Wii U? It seems perfectly matched for the system--it could even output 3D via HDMI.

We haven't talked about launch WINDOW titles.

Hmm. There's the topic of third party support, but we've beaten that topic to a bloody pulp, re-formed it into human shape, reanimated it, and then beaten it to a bloody pulp again.

NOPE We still gotta talk about...uh...what kind of coffee the Wii U comes with at Launch, as well as the, errr, uhh...fuck it. I'm tired. Don't overtake my spot while I sleep!
They will, and they'll bloody enjoy it ):

I have serious reservations about Killer Freaks. Weren't they demoing turning your body around with the controller to rotate your character?

Honestly, I was apprehensive about coming here, as I expected you all to be worse than GameFAQs.

...but you truly are the epitome of Nintendo fans. Fuck Yeah!

I'd definitely be up for playing that one; it's on my short list, but I need to watch a few "Let's Play" videos before making a final decision on it. It's in a genre I love, so it has that in it favor.. but I'm kinda ambivalent about Batman.

(Cabbie.. that's hilarious!)

Wait, I did something useful??

I really think it's just going to be a little more NN information as well as more (but not many) details on their outreach towards third parties.

Look, I may be like...kind of newish here and stuff. But comparing Gaf to FAQs hurts the heart man.

Of course you did, you made me stay up an hour later so I could respond to this post.

Also a good way to get banned, right Alberto?
Not that Cabbie's post would constitute for that, just saying :p

Back on topic: What is the likelihood of a DS/3DS player for Wii U? It seems perfectly matched for the system--it could even output 3D via HDMI.

3DS player, almost none. I think the architecture is too different and it isn't faster enough to compensate for that. I replied to a similar query earlier today with the opinion that Nintendo could recompile individual games for the Wii U, but they wouldn't be free.

I'm not crazy about Killer Freaks right off the bat because it reminds me of Red Steel for some strange reason. I also get a vibe that I'll play it for six hours, and then the single-player mode will be over. Definitely need more info.

I think what they demoed was that you could augment the aiming with the gyro. So you used the sticks like normal, but if you moved the controller it would also move the reticle. I actually think it'd be great as you could play like normal but if you need to do a quick look somewhere or quick aim and fire, just jerk the controller there and back.

Possibly but I'm really interested in the asynchronous gameplay with the "Dungeon Master" type of gameplay that they demoed. It might be a way to get my wife into gaming a little more. I could do the FPS stuff and she could try and murder me.

Sony has 2 IPs that I hope never die, and they're both puzzle games that they treat like garbage: Intelligent Qube (IQ in Japan) and Devil Dice (XI in Japan). Hell, the Devil Dice sequel on PS2 had to be published by CACPCOM to get a US release, that's how highly Sony thinks about them. And let's not even mention how they totally abandoned releasing PSP versions that were released in Japan. Puzzle games sell AMAZING on portable systems!!!

Seriously, Sony? If you're gonna treat these series like shit? Sell them.

Almost sounds like the target assist feature that's in Icarus. Works really well for me.

For some reason? "Hey, look everybody, we put like a whole team* for this new Nintendo system and created** an all new compelling*** first person shooter experience with an innovative**** control method!"

I really hope at the investor meeting they also announce status of moving VC and Wii Ware content over to Wii U. My theory is it'll be a new Wii channel they'll have us download which will sink all of your DLC with your Nintendo Network username. Which begs the question, will Nintendo do this with a decent amount of time before the launch? Because I don't want to be required to boot up my Wii and synch my content before I set up my Wii U for the first time or worse, they don't have it available until sometime after launch.

Haha!
I was trying to mince my words a bit. But you pretty much cut through the mustard to the heart. HylianTom in 2006 would be pre-ordering this game with five or six others, but HylianTom here in 2012 is much, much more discriminating with his time and money. Unless we learn something truly dramatic about the title, it'll end-up being a rental-at-best.

Sadly, my theory is that we'll have to re-download each and every title one at a time from the VC/WiiWare shop, just like you do on the Wii. It'll be a bit of a pain, but I'll be relieved to just get confirmation of transferability.

Even the name screams "Ignore me!". At least "Red Steel" sounded cool. "Killer Freaks From Outer Space" has all the panache as "Escape From the Planet of the Robot Monsters" (which, to its credit, was kinda fun to play).

Abso-friggin-loutely, even without knowing most details. And I'll be getting mine retail at whatever store opens at midnight. Not a fan of waiting all day for UPS or Fed-Ex to arrive with my prizes. That, and I like the experience of going to the store to pick it up. It's a moment of triumph that isn't quite matched by opening my door and signing for a package. :p

So will everyone here be getting their Wii U on Day 1 / Week 1?

My conditional "release window" buying schema is thus:

≤$250 || ( TimeSplitters 4 && ≤$300 ) || ( Electrostatic Haptics && ≤$350 )

So it is rather unlikely as things stand so far.

So then… From a previous post:

I hope it's like the DSi/3DS transfer system with Pikmin carrying your files over.
That was seamless and painless.
