The reason why Netflix was big on consoles was because it's a visual medium primarily and consoles are usually hooked up to the biggest screen in the house.
With iTunes on the Wii U, there's just no point in it. If you are using iTunes, you already have a device that is more than capable of playing, and likely one of the portable devices that you can use while you play a console.

I wonder if any of these phones even work after all these years.

Again, I see absolutely no point in it on a console. No need to be so condescending if you disagree with me.

You do know that iTunes is more than just music right?

Nintendo will use Tesla Coils.

Retro making a Frankenstein game.

Yes, but I don't think Epic would support it officially if Wii U is too weak.

It's already been said, but if Epic can make money on Wii u, they'll be on it like water on fish. >_>

And now.. imagine that picture splashed all over the gaming media's front pages.

Would this damage Rein's cred with hardcorier-than-thou gamers?
Would it give Nintendo some cool cred with that crowd?
How much would the Nintendo crowd taunt and crow over such a thing?

That image of Rein smiling next to Miyamoto - two of gaming's giants - would be THE image of this year' E3. I'm thinking that it's gotta be pretty high up on Nintendo's priority list.. assuming that they are as serious about pursuing the core as they say they are.

That sounds more like an Iwata-type of photo-op (nitpick), though the first question is probably the most likely for that situation. It would probably reflect worse on Epic (to the intellectually-challenged) than being a positive for Nintendo. Or at least they would probably crow louder about it than other groups.

I don't think that such a type of marriage is legal here in the South, so it's kinda a moot point. Like the iTunes argument. :)

So when do you propose to this thread?
And why haven't I been invited to the wedding yet?

PS: I have a boat ready for you, we'll ship off to about 20,000km off the coast of California.

iTunes has video content, too, dude. Video content people paid for. And yeah, I can play it on my Mac, but Macs aren't all connected to televisions. Neither are iPhones or iPads. And why buy an Apple TV when you could get the same function from a console you're already going to own? THAT is the point: getting that content to the living room.

Again, I see absolutely no point in it on a console. No need to be so condescending if you disagree with me.

You're being given perfect points and reasons for it to exist, and you're not listening to them. At all. And continue to parrot the same thing without taking in any of the reasoned arguments to the contrary. I hope to never see you engage in condescending tones in the presence of people who engage in the same behavior.

I was looking for any hints of The Grinder landing on Wii U, and I stumbled upon this post by someone who commented at a certain Nintendo fansite who apparently knows about the game's status:

Re: Rumor: The Grinder moved to Wii U, digital only release?

I keep in contact with HVS regularly (I'm one of the few that actually reports glitches and such in Conduit 2's online. Yep I the reason you have to wait 2 minutes to download a new patch every time you boot up the game.) Anyway regarding "The Grinder" the game is finished. It just doesn't have a publisher, Sega won't do it because it's in an "Over saturated market" on the PS3/360 and "M" rated games don't sell on Wii. Even though the last time we saw the PS3/360 version (about 2009?) it was a 4 player top down dungeon crawler. Makes me wonder if they just switched it to an FPS on all consoles. It is very possible that it will end up on Wii U as there is a small cult like group that shows interest in the game. Otherwise look forward to them unveiling their new FPS on the 3DS at E3, just remember to grab your ASE.

Meh if this 3DS FPS is the Conduit AGAIN, yeah they demoed Conduit 2 on it before, but still, at least make another original one.

I wonder if any of these phones even work after all these years.

My point is obviously not about a Motorola's durability (i'm betting they'd still work however).

It's that iTunes could conceivably be on a Nintendo product. The other two console makers are yet to create a decent media player with a decent interface even though the interface on the original Xbox beats out the 360's one imo as i had more use with it. None-the-less, this allows Nintendo to make a move with Apple.
I'd personally love my 50GB worth of music to be transferable/shared to another machine at home.

iTunes does more than just music. Anyway, I have an iPhone and iPad but I use my Apple TV to play my music A LOT! I can control it with my iPhone, just turn on my receiver and I don't need to have TV on to do it.

That said, my Apple TV and iPhone does it all so I don't need it in my console but I can see some people liking it. Anyway, Apple wouldn't allow it as they have their own box.

How interesting, still not the title I was looking forward to.

I'd be all about such an action-adventure title, especially if they implement a healthy sense of humor throughout.

I can hear the comments right now.. "Mark Rein - slummin' in the gaming ghetto with the likes of Nintendo."

Might wanna edit the name of that site out of your post. (it's banned here, unfortunately)

I think the 3DS demo was just to show their engine running on the system.
Hopefully it isn't just another Conduit game (even though I do enjoy them).
And at least the online will be better.

I know it's banned, but I think reference to the site isn't a bad thing, and I think it's okay if you make it clear it's not something official, here it's a post in a comments section, so as always, take with a grain of salt.

If there's any issue, of course I'll edit the name out, hell I'll delete the post if necessary. Just thought it'd add to the conversation and hopefully provide some insight to The Grinder's status (if true).

Edit: Edited the name just in case. :)

I wouldn't personally give a damn about iTunes on the Wii U, but I imagine there would be a rather large number of people who would check that box in a hurry if it were. That said, I highly doubt that would ever happen. Still, it's fun to conjecture. I think this thread, along with its many predecessors, has proven that.

And that thing in less than 5% of US households, so it'd make sense on the "expand the potential audience" front for Apple. On seemingly every other level, I don't think they could get anything worked out.

I highly doubt Apple is prepared to give up on living rooms. Steve Jobs was apparently working on how to take over the TV up until this death. Supposedly he figured it out. We'll see.

True.. I never quite know how powers that be will handle it, so I'm sometimes overly paranoid. :p

Mhm, I was going to say this in response to any potential argument about the Wii U cannabalizing Apple TV sales.

And yes, likely not, but they brought the Beatles around, and that was an actual legal dispute. Apple and Nintendo have a pretty clean slate if you disregard the mobile gaming tension. (Which is largely Nintendo's problem)

Also, your av creeps me out for some reason. That's probably rich coming from me.

Sales disagree?

the first one sold 9 million copies and it's still the best-selling game in the franchise. it's kinda similar to how the first sonic the hedgehog sold 14 million, but the best-selling one after that was at 6m and the series still hovers around the 4m mark when it's doing well.

Wait, Sonic 1 sold 14 million? I thought Sonic 2 surpassed 1's sales on the Genesis.

According to Wikipedia, Sonic 1 sold more than 15 million, while Sonic 2 sold 6 million.

Not sure how accurate those numbers are. I, too, thought that Sonic 2 sold more than that.

It probably includes the number of games sold with each Genesis. The game was bundled with every console for some time.

How many of you actually thinks we'll get Wii U info on the 26th?

We'll get something. It won't be much, I'm talking Brawl Dojo levels of info.

Even if it doesn't have iTunes (and it won't), you could still use the browser to access Orb or any number of media sharing utilities to stream audio/video to the Wii U. I've been doing this on the Wii since soon after the console launched. In fact, I still take my Wii on the road with me to watch new DVR'd shows streaming from my PC. The quality is only as good as Wii can handle, obviously, but it's still watchable.

I fully expect Iwata to gaze at the nearest camera phone, toss his hair back, and say, "E3... It gonna be good." Or at least that's how my curious brain will translate it.

Where the hell did this iTunes on the Wii-U shit come from? And nobody would give a fuck about playing music through it. The only real advantage would bet he video content, and in that capacity it would be the same as the PSN's video store, the Zune Store, Vudu, CinemaNow, etc. Come to think of it, it would possibly make more sense on the 3DS since iBooks and the music would make more sense on that platform.

Even thinking Apple would do it though is kind of insane. Why isn't iTunes on the 360 or PS3 yet? Plus, as someone else already said, Apple probably already has their own plans for the living room. The Apple TV is just the firs step. They'll either release a new generation of that box or a Television set. There's no reason for Apple to ally with another hardware manufacturer.

I don't care if WiiU stays the same power as the PS360, just as long as Nintendo uses that power to push image quality through the roof. Their art styles are already good enough; Playing Mario Galaxy 2 in HD on my PC quickly sealed it as the greatest looking game I have ever seen.

Whoa, chill out there... It's just speculation.

We'll get the most rudimentary of information. Things like:

"We have been working with third parties to ensure the technology in the Wii U is able to run the most up to date middleware engines which will hold us in good stead when the competitor products emerge"

"Both the 3DS and Wii U will move to an online system where there is no longer the need for friend codes"

"Wii U will allow users to transfer their old virtual console purchases from their Wii"

Things of that level anyway

Still, any crumbs are better than nothing. And, given Nintendo is expected to announce a pretty significant loss for the first time, I'm expecting something at least medium sized to calm investors down. Not 'Santa is real!' big, but 'Big Foot was spotted' big.

Apple's gaming machine will be out before we get any WiiU news at this rate

still I believe the 26th will have some major teasers for E3 just enough to get the hype to a boil over point
Do it, Apple. Do it!

So I guess we won't be hearing about where he gets his hair done? Or what kind of product he uses? Poop.

How many of you actually thinks we'll get Wii U info on the 26th?
*raises hand*
Like the others, I think we'd get some small bit of news. Maybe a title announcement or two of the non-bombshell type.
