Anyone else have a feeling we'll see this return at E3?

Perhaps the sensor will be incorporated into the WiiUPad?

To be demo'd on stage by Dennis Dyack to show off the Insanity Meter 2.0 in the new Eternal Darkness....

Long enough to know this meme has perpetuated for the last 5 years. Every year there is a quote where Miyamoto states "he is working on something new". Rabid fans go crazy with inane expectations of Miyamoto sitting in small room drawing characters and levels for a new blockbuster ip. New game appears directed by someone else, produced by someone else, and Miyamoto being the general executive supervisor as usual.

Just saying. Wii Music. Steel Diver. And others came and went just the same.

Oh I don't expect Miyamoto to direct something all by himself. I don't think he's done that since maybe the Nintendo 64 days lol.

I don't understand why people equate "we will show Super Mario Bros Wii U at E3" to "it will be there for launch."

I think it is much more likely that, akin the Wii software unveiling at E3 2006, we will see EAD Tokyo's next 3D mario (and it may be playable), but it won't come out until the following year.

Of course, if he is talking about NSMBMii, then I agree that it will be a 2012 title.

Ya, I don't expect a big, expansive, mermaid adventure. I expect something smaller in scope, maybe with a small team of younger devs that Miyamoto is working directly with. I think back when his retirement was reported by Wired, he came back and clarified that he wanted to do smaller titles with younger developers.

I do hope he makes a new character though. And knowing his history, you'd imagine he wants to make a new character as well.

At this point, I consider anything new that he gives us to be bonus. He's already done so much..

Yeah, I'm sure he'd like to create another character that will sell on merch ala Mario and Donkey Kong. His recent comments praising Angry Birds lead me to believe that as well.

I actually take his recent Angry Birds comments as a sign he (or someone at Nintendo) is working with Rovio on a Nintendo version. Birds who drop Yoshi Eggs. Birds that wear Mario hats. Tanooki powered birds. Koopa-Pigs. All set in Mushroom Kingdom enviornments.

As I've said earlier, I'd include Angry Birds as a "Play on uPad" pack-in game, if they sell the DRC as a stand alone SKU. The Angry Birds logo and characters on the box would be an immediate attention grabber at retail.

I would fucking buy that lol.

Maybe call it "Angry Yoshi's".

vitality sensor is dead and we will never hear of it again.

Not true at all. Iwata mentioned to investors the team (Nintendo SPD) was still working on it. They were stuck at the software working on 80% of subjects. Nintendo needs it to work on 99% of subjects.

Wasn't there a FIFA or Pro Evo game with Sony logos in the Wii/3DS version? Could be fair game as it's Sony as a whole, not just SCE, but still.

Edit: Have some full-res shots of the Nintendo Car:

[Update: Slightly Mad has denied responsibility for the Nintendo livery (but not the Wii U release), with Vittorio Rapa saying, "these are fan-produced liveries, they doesn't come officially from our game (and so the logos applied to them)."]

Both of those ideas are crazy good. A Nintendo edition of Angry Birds would be pretty fun and it would be an immediate way to get people using the touch screen.

I assume that the sensor has changed its looks.. This is just speculation. Imagine a Wii U pad with those functions. Yeah, right: Trauma Center HD has to happen!

U Play (pack-in), the new Mario game, and Pikmin U

Yup, this is what I'm expecting (although Mario might come later)

with these in the launch window:

Wii U Sports
Wii Fit U
WarioWare U
Mario Paint U
Excite-Unicycle
Mario Galaxy HD Classics
Retro title

also hoping for these Vitality sensor games:

U Mad - multiplayer shooter
Is it Mii U Lookin 4? - nintendo love tester online dating game
U Bloody Bastid U - anger management/chav simulator

His comments on Angry Birds? Where he basically said he didn't care for iOS games but that one was mildly amusing? I don't see how you can take anything from it other than Miyamoto basically side stepping a question with an easy answer.

Regarding vitality sensing and scary games: Would you make the game more creepy/aggressive/etc when the player is calmer or when the player is more tense? The latter would work much better with players who scare easily, but I imagine it would be substantially more boring for people who don't really get nervous easily.

While recently playing Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, I thought it might be cool if they could draw up an RPG character's baseline stats by reading the player's vitals.

Here's the Quote:

"This is a totally new type of entertainment and there are large individual differences in the biological information of humans. For example, if it was acceptable that only 80% of the users thought the result was natural, then we could propose this to consumers right now. However, we are aiming for a level of quality in which 99% percent of consumers feel comfortable, and that is why this project is taking time to complete."

When Miyamoto or Iwata praise anything that's not Nintendo, I take it to mean they have some interest in bringing or they are bringing it to a Nintendo platform. It might be misguided, but that's how I look at it.

Plus, we know the games are coming to eShop, and it makes a hell of a lot of sense to get the game on Wii U and the DRC.

In that case, it might be a while. Asking standard, expensive medical equipment to work on 99% of all subjects can be very demanding.

That's definitely a leap. I can't think of any instances where that happened.

Edit: in regards to your first proposition, I mean.

When is that quote from?

A bit late here, but I'm with Ace on the new Mario game issue.

It just kind of felt like something was lost in translation. We don't even have a direct quote from Miyamoto confirming the game, just the website that posted it.

Granted, if it is real, there's no way it will release this year. Nintendo won't release two big Mario games in one half of the year. They've already promised a 2D Mario for the 3DS this year, why throw another Mario game out there at the same time? If they released them separately, they'd sell more units of software in the long run.

EDIT: Well, I guess the game has been confirmed by Nintendo. I guess I should do my reading before posting here...But I still don't expect it to release by the end of the year. I'm guessing holiday next year.

I just dislike the way we talk about it like they are commodities. Whenever I hear "Zelda, Mario, Metroid", I want to vomit figuratively speaking.

So in that way I'm with Ace as well. It's just demeaning to Nintendo.

I've posted this a few pages ago, it could narrow the involvement of Miyamoto on future projects.

You all know the part of the El Mundo's Miyamoto interview when he talk about Super Mario for Wii U

There's an interesting line also:

I'm working on several projects but I think I can not speak for all [laughs]. Some are small but important projects for Wii U. Also a new 'Pikmin', which will use high-resolution images of the console, and a Luigi's Mansion for 3DS.

So Pikmin as the big important Miyamoto project for Wii U
And several other "small but important projects", i read Nintendo Network titles, maybe bundled demonstrations of the Wii U asymmetrical gameplay possibilities like Chase Mii, etc.
+ its monitoring of the development of other games.

The most important thing he could possibly give is imparted wisdom to the next generation of software developer.

But in AD&D, sorcerers see their wisdom increase and go well beyond 25 with their age !
Seriously, 60 is so young in this era, furthermore for not physically exhausting jobs like his, he could work 20 more years "easily", he'll just have to travel less, not attend to so much showrooms, etc.

I have no idea what an 80 year old Miyamoto would make, but I need to see it...

Yeah, as long as wants to really. He should just stop doing press already. I understand why he must of course but I think Miyamoto's PR celebrity role has gone just a little bit too far

In the artistic world, there are so much personalities still working beyond 80, even for very demanding things like theater, with daily representations, etc.

Ok, he'll have more wrinkles, but we don't care, and of course, i'm talking about part-time job, consulting, etc, not 9am to 8pm theorycrafting in an office, daily :p

And it's better for the brain !

New thread + Debating about third parties + We're close to E3

In other words:

New thread: we're getting a Mario game on Wii U
Third parties: Wii U's third party support will be better than Wii and GC, but still shit overall
E3: Nintendo conference on the Tuesday.

Did I just summarize 50 pages? lol

I think fans make a big deal out of Miyamoto's retirement

allow the guy to retire on top, before he starts giving us disappointments
Fresh Ideas at Nintendo and new directions can be positive for the company's future
I think he should do this sooner than later because I doubt Nintendo games will suddenly suck without him. Too many talented people work there
