I stopped watching Tiger & Bunny once I realized it was gonna get Sunrise'd to hell.

This is a classic example of terrible meddling - all the plot lines which the show had been working up to were awkwardly aborted in favour of some really dumb shit inserted at the last moment.

Saki 1

So I tried to give the first episode of the original a try and I had to stop when they started playing. Does mahjong play a big role in the anime cause I know jack shit about it

I saw some hints of pure love in the first 5 mins so I'm interested in continuing it.

Mahjong is indeed a major part of the show, and I don't know that you'll really learn it by watching -- the game's quite complex and I still don't really understand, though I've read/watched the series a few times -- but I just don't think it matters too much. I mean, for people who do know mahjong I'm sure it'd be even better, but the series works well on its own... it's not exactly realistic mahjong, anyway, not with how a lot of the characters have superpowers. They play tiles, crazy stuff happens, people win... I found it fun to watch, regardless of if I understood it or not.

(I have played various Shanghai games, so I do know what the tiles look like, which maybe helped a little, but I don't know the rules to Mahjong.)

Also, yes, expect lots and lots of yuri subtext. Apart from mahjong it's certainly one of the series' main themes.

Black Lagoon 1

Have had this on my list for a little bit, decided no time better than the present.

The
bar fight was neat. However, some of the action looked a bit stiff. For example, instead of active jumping animation. Revy would acrobatically, "slide" through the air. Later on, at the submarinexheli battle, I had good fun with Rock's reactions to the situation.
Poor guy.

The animation in Black Lagoon isn't terribly consistent, but the action choreography improves after the first set of episodes.

Movie watching part was hilarious as well as the photo op and etc.
Chizuru was hugging Kanemecchi
and it never gets old how much they Kanemecchi gets so angry at everyone and how active Chizuru is. Akira was a compelling character, 30 seemed so old for him, but hopefully he returns again, great VA.

It's because they can't have him tainting the pure Lovecraftian waifus.

I hate Japan so much for making that sentence possible.

They're just appreciating Lovecraftian lore from a different perspective, what's so wrong with that? Are you a hater?

The exchange booth burned down with the rest of the internet when you showed me that last picture. Do something noble and donate your internets to a foundation for hysterical blindness.
You're just upset that what you asked for actually existed! Not my fault your idea of a safe bet was mistaken.

This is like taking names and locales from The Divine Comedy and mix them up with snazzy action, hard rock, and incestuous brotherly love tension.

...oh.

This image looks like something out of Apollon. Note the thick black outline that is the same throughout. Notice the shading that makes each character like grainy mud.

DcscX.gif

This gif shows how soft shading and highlights can be used appropriately. The soft shading is used sparingly in the face and the hands. In the face it is used to show blush in the face and in the hands it is used to give depth. Soft shading is never used too much because it can make the image look like cancer.

Also in this gif, the outlines are not the same color or size. This gives the image a more sense of realism, because humans do not look like pen outlined blobs.
Once again, a SHAFT show beats out some Watanabe rubbish.

Also, you're wrong. Your argument seems to imply that there's something inherently wrong with the art style of Kids on the Slope, as opposed to the fact that you don't like it. I can understand why you (and others) dislike like it but it seems perfectly valid to me.

This girl has a face like a manatee. Creeps me out, especially when all the old man faces are so rich with detail. Info dump episode (mostly of stuff I already assumed/knew) with a fight mixed in. Didn't really do a lot for me and I don't really know if I'll stick to this show. This show is just hitting the story beats way too fast and it's kind of just out of control at this point. Even the sloggy info dump couldn't really reset the emotional bearings.

Well, we all know that old men are always more interesting to design, because their faces can have actual features. You know, wrinkles, lines, faults, crags, whatever it may be. Young women or girls must have perfectly smooth, flat faces with no blemishes at all.

Old men also work best in CGI.

... OR IS IT???
)

What the fuck just happened? So many plot elements in the last few episodes lacked impact since they seemed to just be making them up on the spot.

Also Yukkii is apparently the worst God ever. Like 10,000 years later everything in his timeline is just gone. It's just him moping over Yuno,in the void, growing out his hair, while Murmur rereads manga. He and Yuno should have just shacked up in World 3 off the grid, like Minene wound up doing, since the whole point of one of them winning was saving their world.

Does the manga at all explain why
Deus can skip the Survival Game and keep on living in World 3?

Gintama 89

My favorite part about this Bleach parody was that they didn't draw any backgrounds. Kept it true to the source material. Kubo would be proud.

I'm honestly glad it's not. Different themes and different stories benefit from different visual styles and aesthetics. Someone who is only able to do the same thing stylistically over and over again regardless of the theme is not a good director, but rather a one trick pony.

Are you saying that Makoto Shinkai is not a good director???

(I know that you aren't, because you said 'regardless of the theme').

Still, I can't actually think of an anime director who uses the same style repeatedly regardless of the theme. Probably some bad episode director somewhere.

This is starting to get pretty damn boring.
They're gonna pull something stupid and overly melodramatic like Shizume having some kind of terminal illness aren't they?

Shin Oonuma. And other inferior Shinbo imitators.

I tried watching it years ago, but found it to be so dull. Couldn't get through more than a few episodes.

If you must have your yuri just watch Cream Lemon: Pop Chaser!

Drama, drama everywhere. In contrast to the first season, season two provided us with episodes that focused more on the white and yellow rose families. With graduation's quick arrival, the three roses (Youko "Rosa Chinensis" Mizuno, Eriko "Rosa Fœtida" Torii, Sei "Rosa Gigantea" Satou) said their goodbyes to Lillian Girls' Academy and passed on their legacy to their en boutons.

Sei Satou's departure was not only hard on Yumi, it was especially taking its toll on Shimako. A girl who was quiet and reserved at the start of the series, Shimako slowly but surely blossomed into her own person. I loved the frighteningly similar interactions between Shimako and Noriko, and how well it mirrored between Shimako's first meeting with Sei as well. As someone mentioned before, the white rose family honestly does have the best characters.

The relationship between Rei and Yoshino is so sweet that it kills me that they're not a couple. Underneath her calm exterior, Rei is super protective of Yoshino and frets about anything she does that requires effort
even though Yoshino is fine after the heart surgery in season 1
. This is when yuri goggles come in handy.

Another really solid season. Still not a fan of Touko though. :lol

Futari wa Precure 1-49

Much like Heartcatch Precure, I started out hating this series then it gradually got better on me. Annoying mascots pushed to the background and the main characters, Nagisa and Honoka, were brought more to the forefront and used better. Monsters were all kinda dumb, but the generals were good enough and episodic stories provided enough Nagisa/Honoka to be amusing.

This series is really two stories under the same title, and the start of the second story plunged the show into hateful territory pretty hard. Once again, though, it worked its way back up and managed to continue providing the same fare that made the show watchable even if it wasn't anywhere near enthralling.

One thing that became clear to me, though, was that the success of this franchise is largely due to the extensive and pervasive product placement throughout the show. This facet goes above and beyond the usual method of simply selling the brand alone and then making products that can be attached to it. Anything the main duo use is in the form of something that can be sold. Mascot plush toys. Mascot flip phone replicas. Cosplay dresses. Power up bracelets. Piece to hold magic gems. It goes on and on. One episode even revolved around a precure brand love meter. In stores now, kids. Tell your parents.

Oh. My. GOD. SO. BORING.

This show was the opposite of what I described before. It started out decently enough with an interesting premise. Our heros get a new companion to protect and must find 12 sprites/fairies for her, but there's no actual searching and what they're looking for just shows up on its own at random. It just seems they aren't even trying anymore. Changes to mascot items (BUY NOW) are brushed aside in the show itself. Enemies simply hang out twiddling their thumbs until one of them decides to go out for a smoke. There's no real drive, no real purpose, no real point, and the show even slacks off on episodic stories which makes it entirely insufferable.

I really haven't seen a show be so purely awful in a long time. Shows like Yami fuck up and manage to be interesting in their terrible state and others are bad from being offensive or aggravating, but there's none of that here. It just fails to be entertaining on any level whatsoever, and not even fast-forward made it any better. Anyone who has seen my viewing history knows I'm not the kind to drop shows I start, but I simply couldn't continue. Even when I skipped to the end to see how things end it was tiresome.

This show is horrible.

Yeah Touko doesn't get any less annoying until very far into the series. If you can watch until then, you will officially become a Marimite-bro. The rosary ceremony will have to come after that though.

This is what happens when you watch shows designed for young children.
