Halo |OT3| Remember Reach?

I was almost certain they were gonna show CoD footage when the said, "We're gonna show you footage similar to the confidential Halo stuff."

HaloGAF(kyleJ)'s propaganda is now in my soul.

Frankie, please please please don't give us a Halo 2 ending.

The video would've been funnier if Wolfkill and Frank had at least pretended that they wanted to be there.

Gameplay bit at the end was complete sex, though! I'm glad the medals got moved back to popping up on the left side.

Ok, it looks awesomer and awesomer after looking at the gifs loop it over and over and adjusting my brain to the new animations and effects.

But the sound, how does it go from __________ (insert how they described it recently, three consecutive thunders or something) to the ODST SMG when they lower the volume to make the VO stand out?

know what's real nice in those gifs? Visual feedback from enemy shields when they're hit. Much easier to see than in Reach.

The sparks flying off the armor is a nice touch.

I really liked the gif. Reminded me of Halo 2, but with less aim assist. Whatever the AAs do to the game, the core of Halo seems to be there and they can build around that in a variety of ways, surely.

"Master Chief, mind telling me where you're going?"

"To War"

Here's what I'm seeing in that gif:

1. The shapes above the grenades are gone, (crescent, diamond). Not sure if they were grenade indicators or not, maybe they were deemed unnecessary if they were.

2. The scoped in BR view has a cool panning effect as you move it around where the vignette/blurred black area shifts around as the scope moves. Can't remember if that effect happened in previous games. Might be over analyzing.

3. Sparks off the shields look nice.

4. There's three horizontal bars that are barely visible underneath and to the right of the health bar. What will they be for I wonder?

5. A new AA icon we haven't seen before.

6. Oh yeah, and unicorn and wolf icons next to the blue and red team scores. Not sure what to make of that.

My friend is trying to tell me right now that Halo 3 takes more skill than Halo 2 because halo 3 isn't hitscan and you have to actually lead your shots to hit your opponent, and how this makes Halo 3 better online than Halo 2 was........

Wait. Was the ending of the game really spoiled for us? I thought Frankie was joking about that? And the story for the next three games has been mapped out already so I wouldn't rule out a cliffhanger.

Also, this Conan guy wasn't being that funny. Frankie was funnier in his Bungie Studios tour video.

The BR does sound kind of muffled, and yeah that whole "killing spree" in the middle of the screen would get annoying. Everything else about that gameplay video looks fantastic though.

If your encounter distances are far enough, I would agree with him. Also, swipe sniping is damn near impossible in Halo 3.

Base Halo 3 did take more skill than Halo 2. Halo 2's auto aim was ridiculous.

But once you factor in button combos, Halo 2 gets elevated.

Looked fucking amazing. Except the damn notifications in the middle of the screen. I really hope that can be disabled, it may obstruct the view when I'm playing. It does feel rewarding when you see that, but it gets real tiring real fast. Hopefully I can turn those notifications off.

First big thing that stuck out to me when watching that slow-mo gif was the death animation. Love the way he fell after being shot in the head.

The reason why i'm disagreeing with him is I just think hitscan is 10x better. I'm all for leading my shots in Halo 3, and it did add to the experience, but I just hated having to lead my shots, especially online.

Really? To me it looked like Frank was trying to suppress a smile the entire time...

Guys, we saw early Reach footage with placeholder notifications, too. I wouldn't worry about the killing spree and headshot messages popping up in the middle of the game.

I feel like they've been drilling us with this message for some time...

WE DIDN'T LISTEN!
Well if they wanted us to listen they should've just asked us to trust them.

Yeah, I think they were both tickled to be there and possibly freaked out at being on TV. I didn't get the feeling that they were unhappy.

Edit:
Oh yeah, almost forgot--the game looks fucking great. Jump height, movement, feedback, I'm loving it. I'm no longer worried (until the next info dump when we hear about more crazy new stuff).

Someone posted this in the Conan thread, haven't watched it yet, but here:

Apparently, there are spoilers, so watch at your own risk
Haha awesome, that will be a great easter egg. Too bad they showed virtually nothing from the game, and the audio ended up being all weird sounding. I hope the BR has more of a reverb/echo to it.

I quickswapped it with the 256 color version, if you guys want I could post up a 640x360, 24mb one.
Could you post a bigger one? That clip is sexy.
Who said (think it was in the last OT) that ADS shouldn't be in the game, but when you scope in, it should look more like you're looking through a scope?

Cause I owe you an internet high five.

I believe it twas me, though this isn't entirely what I meant, but I am pleased with how it looks.

I can't seem to get it to work..anything in it thats good?

I think "Midnight Team Slayer" is just a custom name for the demonstration. Like the midnight show Conan hosts. I wouldn't dwell on it too much.

@Ghouse, the way score is counted now is...different. We still haven't go clarification on that, yet.

Are my eyes deceiving me or did the score just go from 50 before the kill to 60 after the kill?

I think 343i is changing the way slayer works. Instead of going from 1-50/1-100 with 1 point per kill, the games now go to a lot higher numbers (The 500 in the bottom right is the points needed to win, the bars to the right of the 500 are slowly going up towards it). Basically you get 5 points per kill(random number, no idea in actuality) but if you get a double kill you'll get like 15 or something.

Yeah, out of everything that's been teased, this is the thing that's gnawing at me the most. WHAT DOES IT MEAN.

Last time I asked that, Frankie responded with an answer within minutes. Let's see if lighting strikes twice.

Yeah, I suspect something like this.

Can't stop looking at the gif.

Love the sparks flying off the Spartan with each hit to the shield, the shadow of the player hitting his own gun, the detailed look of the armored hands in first person, the fade effect for going in and out of scope and the movement of the hud around the edges while scoped, the fast strafe and movement, the high floaty jump.

Anyone do the analysis on how many exact bullets to kill?

It looked to me like some shots were hitting behind the spartan. Didn't make much sense to me though.

My buddy and I are thinking 4 perfect shots with all 3 bullets hitting the opponent with the last burst being on the head will be a kill. like the old school BR, i deduced this from the slow-mo video, it's either going to be 4 or 5 3-bullet rounds.

Also, if anyone was doubtful about that Matt kids facebook with the Jeff Steitzer coming back.. it's pretty obvious when he says killing spree.
