Yeah that was the reason pretty much... personally I love it.

Its a more "western" sounding voice. Maybe thats why they dont like it. she speaks a darker, lower tone. Otherwise, I have no idea why they wouldn't. Its not like she sounds clumsy or nervous or anything.

The last thing I expected from this show was a Knight Rider reference. Figured that would be pretty damn obscure in Japan.

AnimeGAF, did ya know that Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood is awesome? Well, did ya? Just finished it recently - first 39 episodes dubbed on Netflix, and the rest subbed via Funimation on YouTube. English VAs > Japanese VAs.

Also, Roy Mustang is great.

Haha, wow, what timing. Echoes! Just finished it tonight, myself; minutes ago. Such a fantastic series, overall, and one with such closure.

I actually watched it as you did too - From Netflix to Funi. So amazingly convenient.

Have a split cour, the 3 episodes can be an OVA!
sounds like a plan!

But Wakamoto!
It's great in it's own way much like the Kugishota in Glass Fleet and FMA but it fails in comparison to just how much better the alternative is as a whole!

Tasogare Otome x Amnesia 2 - This was indeed much better than the first episode. I did like the first episode, perhaps in part because I have read the manga so I do know the characters (since, yes, it doesn't introduce them), but I'll agree with most of the sentiment about episode two that I have seen -- ep. 2 would have been a much better first episode. Indeed, the series really should have started with this, and not with the ep. 1 we got.

This episode has good visuals, a serious plot that introduces many of the main themes of the series -- that is, the issue the paranormal investigations club is to investigate are the circumstances around Yuuko's death at the school ~60 years ago -- and it does so well. Yuuko
being so shy about him seeing her bones
was pretty cute...

As for the characters, Yuuko definitely steals the show. The other two characters, the MC Teiichi and the other girl (and the third girl, who was in ep. 1 but isn't really in this one) are alright, but it's Yuuko's story, so she's the focus of the plot, of course. Fortunately, she's a great character. She is both funny and amusing, and also aware of the deep, unknown sadness behind whatever happened to her, and her existence. That's really what the show's about.

As for the other characters though, Teiichi's pretty generic, but he's not so bad for an anime MC. He's smaller than Yuuko, and is the shy type, because the main character must be the opposite of the others -- if the girls hit the guy for looking at them he'll be an (accidental) pervert, but if (like with Yuuko) they don't care, he'll be shy. It works, but the series does follow that stereotype pretty straight, that's clear in this episode. Anyway, the second girl's not as interesting, in my opinion... I don't know if she gets better. She can be amusing at times, and does do a good job of finding rumors for them to investigate, but that she can't see Yuuko doesn't help...

Now, on the other hand, I can see what people say when they say that this series looks, visually, like Shaft-lite. It does kind of have that feel to it, that they were trying for a Shaft-like look, but just didn't quite have the budget and ability. And this is true. Though I think ep. 2 visually looks better than the first episode, it still doesn't quite match the manga's art. Even so, it looks more than good enough, and definitely has some good style to it at times for sure. This school's an interesting setting, and there are some interesting visuals in this episode. Even if they don't match Shaft, they do succeed at making some fairly stylish, nice visuals.

Yurumates 3Dei 2 - Yeah, as I said earlier, poor hair-tail...

Armitage III: Dual - Matrix
[...]
Even stranger was the fact that I didn't realize there were actually two other movies/ovas before this film. I just assumed the III was for unusual naming conventions. I was very wrong.
You were very correct, actually:

1) Armitage III (4-episode OVA)
2) Armitage III Poly-Matrix (compilation movie)
3) Armitage Dual-Matrix (sequel movie)

(yes, amusingly, the third entry actually drops the "III")

You people and your Wakamoto.
The important thing about Bebop's Japanese cast is that Hayashibara is in it!
And Yamadera.
But the most important thing about the Japanese cast is that it's superior to the US one. Come on, NeoGAF. Seriously. Come on.

There's a cute loli to serve as motivation to recover your eyesight.

Whoa. Its Ika Musume's sister!

It sounded bad the same way those bad English dub links people post sound bad.
It's nothing to do with pitch.
Anyway the first ep sounded a lot better so it's mostly moot.

I guess because I am a filthy english speaking gaijin, I can't tell the difference, so it sounds normal to me.

I am dead serious. I vastly prefer the english dub cast over the Japanese in this particular case. they really nailed it, to the point where I refuse to watch it again subbed.

I liked this scene a lot. BONES always has great action storyboarding, and the animators to execute it well.

It is a great animated fight. I especially love the attention to the physics of the little doll thing that she drops while fighting as it gets thrown around in the chaos.

Do it. Very worthwhile, visually speaking.

I've got to get some Satoshi Kon.

I can't honestly tell these things. what does a correct aspect ratio look like?

A fairly simple way of looking at it is as per below (apologies to bigger videophiles than I if I use the wrong terminology):

FMA Brotherhood was made in widescreen. The gif is in 4:3, so the image has been squashed horizontally to fit. This means that everything in the picture is squashed thinner than it's supposed to be - this often makes the characters look taller than they should as well.

Utena was made in 4:3. When Hix expands the video so it fills the whole of his widescreen TV/monitor, the picture is stretched horizontally. So everything becomes wider than it should be, and this also makes the characters look shorter.

Basically, if you don't know what it was supposed to look like, you can often tell purely because the character proportions look wrong.

I haven't watched Redline yet so no idea, but Summer Wars looks beautiful (and I loved the movie itself) so you should get it.

Yeah, I saw a trailer for Summer Wars and it looked gorgeous, but wasn't sure if the visuals alone would carry it. Love getting my anime in Blu-ray. I'll probably get the complete series of FMA: Brotherhood once Funimation put out both "Complete" collections on Blu-ray.

Yes. Redline and Summer Wars are both well worth owning on Bluray.

But does moe originate from a clearly sexualized source, like loli does? If not, I think they're different.

I know its origins and I try to avoid using the word entirely to avoid confusion.

Summer Wars is a good movie either way.

Sure it does. A loli is a young girl. If you attach something else/more to the word loli, that's on you, not on the word.

That's not true, look up where the word comes from.

I know its origins and I try to avoid using the word entirely to avoid confusion.
I agree, I don't like using it because of the negative connotations attached to it.

As I said though, I think moe's origins are different; it's not entirely comparable.

but the origins of the word lolita is a book written about a man who is obsessed (and becomes sexually involved) with a 12 year old girl
