For some reason I listened all the way to the end of the second ANN Cast about the 80's. It was just about worth it to hear Tim pick up and discuss some rather more obscure titles. I really feel like watching Time Stranger, Goglo 13 (not obscure, obviously), Cobra: The Movie and Night on the Galactic Railroad.

Zac though...man. I don't even know what to say. The podcast ended in a pretty awkward manner. Zac ripped Do You Remember Love to shreds right at the beginning of the podcast calling it: outdated, cheesy, stupid and incredibly incredibly sexist (which no one called him on at the time). Daryl chose it as his number one anime of all time and in the segment where he explained his choice he said something along the lines of "even though I know a variety of militant feminists I have never heard anyone make the argument that Do You Remember Love is sexist." He used the same tone of voice that Ira Glass used when he was talking to Mr. Daisey over why they had to pull the Apple episode of This American Life. The tone of voice that makes you sound like you're about to kill someone.

Woah, what a fucking awesome movie. Such a simple concept executed so well. I had the BD since a couple months now but only got around to watch it today and what a treat it was.
What really impressed me is the way every situation escalates, going from something pretty simple to that final scene that was on a complete different scale of hilarity.
Also the facial expressions, so much vitality in the characters thanks to the range of expressions they exhibit. I even liked the product placement, with Sony appearing so often.
Lastly, a nice dub to complete the package. After Mardock Scramble yesterday I feared Kaze didn't care too much anymore, but i think they did a good enough job with this.

This part was hilarious, you could totally tell that he'd been stewing about that for the entire time that they were recording the podcast (several hours).

The Time Stranger? Do you mean GoShogun: The Time Etranger? If you do I would recommend it. It's a great mix of thriller/action, and it does a great job a telling the story from different perspectives. As a bonus, Remy is a bad-ass heroine.

Furries in my AMG! anime?
Belldandy places matchmaker of one of the seniors in the auto club and it was pretty fun of how much good luck Belldandy gives towards the two. I guess it's nice that the show is adapting earlier chapters now.

Is it worth mentioning that Daryl's name was brought up and dragged through the mud as a staunch supporter of sexism in anime and a detractor of women on ANNcast's sexism episode?
He's completely innocent of course, and a really stellar and knowledgeable guy.

You guys do a really good job of making me never want to listen to the ANNcasts.

Ghost stories featuring Urd.
So, Belldandy defeats a demon dog that was summoned by an crappy summoner through the pure power of jealously! Well, Urd did have to pull a trick from the accidental harem antics book to cause that but through the pure power of jealously!

According to the video description, it's some aspiring filmmakers' demo to market themselves to movie execs. Not even a peep about the blatant Eva imagery. Now this is something I can get behind.

There's not such thing as Evangelion imagery, it's all Christian imagery!

Oh, wow, I never bothered listening to that episode because the idea of an ANN cast discussing sexism sounded like a guaranteed trainwreck. Not one of those cool, exciting trainwrecks either.
Daryl's sense of humor parses very poorly; film at 11.

(DYRL is a pretty bad movie, though.)

There wasn't really anything wrong with Zac having that opinion, it was just that he made a few sweeping statements that required some form of justification and he gave none. Which is aggravating because you don't get to make that kind of claim without backing it up - if someone said something like that in here they'd be called on to at least support their position with an argument.

Yeah, I deliberately avoided that episode for the same reason. Sounds like we weren't wrong, either!

Anime fans are all sexist after all!

Yeah. Not that there was any danger of me listening to one even prior to this discussion. My opinion on ANN's criticism and reviews is not exactly leading me to think listening to one of their podcasts would be a good idea.

Drool fetish is normal.

The more common term for it would be….kissing.

Seriously. Every time I see someone say something about the drool in this series being gross, I can’t help but imagine how they’d handle a relationship with an actual person.

I could swear I read posts like this here and not on gamefaqs.

Yes, that's exactly what I mean. One say I shall watch it. Which is another way of saying it's on the infinite backlog.

Zetman 3

I'm glad they covered
Akemi's "death" and reveal she wasn't dead
all in 1 episode. Was definitely painful to read and made it very hard to sympathize with grandpa Amagi before the reveal.

This is still going way too fast. I'd probably confused as hell if I had no knowledge of the manga, particularly regarding
Kanzaki's head.

It was a good podcast, honestly, and their only one worth listening to in a long-ass time. Are you getting offended on behalf of DYRL, really?

I have mentioned that these two episodes were actually pretty informative, but Zac is a terrible human being and the way he discusses anime and 'makes arguments' hurts my soul, even when I agree with him. I rarely get this annoyed by a podcast (mainly because I turn them off and never listen to them again after a few minutes) but I had to push myself through this one for the good segments.

Judging by the few reviews of his I've read, Zac seems an especially poor writer and thinker even by ANN standards.

I was still rather confused on Akemi, I dont think they did well making it clear or reiterating that that is the real her, unless I missed it, its hard to trust the old man

tbh the funniest Daryl & Zac related moment for me went something like:

Zac: Angel's Egg is completely impenetrable and I have no idea what it were about
Daryl: well I've always taken it to be religiously themed and about loss of faith
Zac: yeah OBVIOUSLY those themes are stewing around in there

I actually brought up that exactly conversation earlier in the thread. I liked it when Zac called the Man "A hunter with a bow".

I thought the conversation with Konoha at the end made it pretty clear, but I guess
Akemi could have still been a clone or something.
I didn't really question it in the anime or manga due to the tone.

As an Executive Editor he also gets to pick and chose writers. What a terrifying thought.

"Watchin' episode 2 of Lupin III: A Naked Woman Called Fujiko Mine. NEXT TIME ON LUPIN III: Fujiko gets summoned for jury duty and shows up naked. Later, she goes to a job interview, without any clothes on."

Black Lagoon 3

Roanapur, a city of pleasure and crime. The most interesting context for the environment is a street side caged parrot that exclaims, "I'll kill you! I'll kill you! Get back here! Die!" Plausible or not, I found the touch entertaining.

*Gangster sees Dutch through open door*
*Looks disappoint*
Dutch sure is the celeb around these parts.

The picture above is one of the better close-ups, but the show has a noticeable drop in detail overall even with little distance between viewer perspective in other shots. Some depictions are bad enough to blink twice if you look around.

Small world. Dutch has run into two associates, a crime boss that knows of him and Benny in what feels like 3 minutes.

0kWdt.jpg

Serious pasts are serious business.

Anyways, one of the associates spoken of previously
doesn't like Dutch's current handling of clients. Soooo, he hires a gang of pirates to blow him out the sky on the sea.

Revy's scrap this time around was slightly better animated than in her debut episode. Besides that, she kicks some arse, while jamming to some (questionable in taste) music on her player to boot!

ZKDUw.jpg

Someone is about to "get their shit wrecked" and that person is not Balalaika.

The kill set up she made for Mr.Hire. Hoo boy. That is one raw, ugly way to go out, crying in the midst of it even.

The gang goes out to celebrate and all is good in the hood for now. This episode feels like an extension from the newfound camaraderie of the last one. Very little development, only hinting at Revy's past life for now. I have little doubt that the next episode will be "meatier" with details on the characters' past or present personas, but this was a decent trough until then.
