I keep forgetting about Monolith...really hope they have something to show.
Oh, but of course! But I won't be the least bit disppointed when we end-up getting 360 v2.0 graphics.Deep down we all want that to happen.

Not all of those, I just mean in that fashion. Would eliminate a lot of the "I hope this comes wiiU" and "I hope that comes to wiiU!".
I'd very much like to see this. I don't just want to see launch window games. I want to see a roadmap of ideas and concepts..
Me neither. That's why I kind of chuckle when guys like specialguy pull a messageboard drive-by and post their twisted views of this thread. As far as I can tell, everyone has their expectations in check.Oh, but of course! But I won't be the least bit disppointed when we end-up getting 360 v2.0 graphics.
The Kyoto studio is working on a 3DS title, you know that right? It is possible. XB has been done for a while, and they have been expanding.

They're working on their Wii U project since early 2010, with research and engine prototyping on HD systems starting even before then - who knows, maybe they did the Nature demo? I expect their Wii U game early in the cycle, some time in 2013. And after the critical (and commercial?) success of Xenoblade, I can't see them hiding the announcement in the deepest corner of their press site this time, either.I keep forgetting about Monolith...really hope they have something to show.

this makes sense to me but their game is one I'm anticipating the most outside of Zelda which I know won't happen for a long time. That's why I don't want to get my hopes up. Didn't Monolith assist on Skyward Sword's development? Nintendo may just be using them as an outsourcing farm for their Japanese studios again as they also did for Brawl.
I imagine that's the case with a small team working on a 3DS title. It's not like Xenoblade set sales charts on fire. There's no way Nintendo is going to fund HD development on a new Monolith property.
Really? I thought they just have two: Tokyo and KyotoThey have like 4 studios, and at least one is working on a Wii U game.
ehh that logic doesn't work so much in gaming, especially not when discussing a company with lots of money....for multiple reasons.Didn't Monolith assist on Skyward Sword's development? Nintendo may just be using them as an outsourcing farm for their Japanese studios again as they also did for Brawl.

Truth be told, I think folks are already too entrenched in their opinions about this company for us to ever all join hands and sing of unity and love. For better or worse, right or wrong, it's a very polarizing entity in the gaming world.Right? Super Mario Bros 4, Metroid Dread, new Star Fox, new F-Zero, Smash Bros 4 trailer. Not to launch with the system, but for 2012 and beyond.
TOTALLY unrealistic and won't happen in our wildest dreams, but seeing the video game internet break in half would be fun.
Hm can't say I'm aware of this, but if that is the case then it will very likely be the scenario you proposed unless its not a launch game.
As well, I'd like to see them announce partnerships with other studios that assures certain titles for the future, even if they have zero footage to show. For example, final fantasy will be heading to nintendo consoles, mgs will be heading to consoles, the next monster hunter game for consoles will appear on the console, etc...
Not all of those, I just mean in that fashion. Would eliminate a lot of the "I hope this comes wiiU" and "I hope that comes to wiiU!".
Who knows though, maybe they'll hit every possible note there is to hit and everyone leaves satisfied. Would be quite the feat.
At launch this makes sense, but any other time I am completely against this. Titles like Twilight Princess, Final Fantasy 13, Skyward Sword, Fable, etc. All could of greatly benefited from same year announcement-release from a critical perspective. Looking at titles like Last Guardian, Versus 13, Paper Mario 3DS, Wii Relax, Tomb Raider, etc., they are going to have a tough time regaining steam hype-wise because they seem like such old news to the most of us gaming enthusiasts.
I personally prefer having a title announced or first shown the same year of release like Skyrim and Super Mario 3D Land did last year.
I don't think it was confirmed, but I'm pretty sure Pikmin 3 was always intended to be a Wii game, and was planned for reveal. But Miyamoto moved it to the Wii U.
I'd really like to see a partnership reel too, similar to the 3DS.
I actually agree with this. I like having titles announced, and then playing them within twelve months. But this is a new console launch, with a new controller, so I think if there's any time to show the goods its now.
What is everyone realistically expecting from the WiiU reveal?
I'm expecting:
--Hardware powerful enough for parody
Monolith, or more precisely the Xenoblade team, is working on a big Wii U RPG. That much was confirmed a while ago. The team assisting EAD on Skyward Sword were the Disaster guys, no idea what they're up to right now. Then you have the team of former Banpresto guys who did SRW OG Endless Frontier, and those dudes seem to work on Project X Zone right now. And on top of that, there's the recently established Kyoto team led by Honne, which is working on a 3DS title. Both studios, the original Tokyo studio and the new Kyoto studio, are hiring and expanding.Didn't Monolith assist on Skyward Sword's development? Nintendo may just be using them as an outsourcing farm for their Japanese studios again as they also did for Brawl.

EDIT: since wsipple's legit, i retract my speculation.
Well you don't really have to take his word for it, all that information comes from Monolith themselves. They were basically the first studio to outright say they were working on WiiU title.

I honestly don't get where they're getting this image of us being totally out-of-touch with reality as far as expectations go. We're pretty damn realistic with our expectations, from what I can tell. I mean, I'm only here 20/7, so maybe in those 4 hours a day when I'm gone all the "the-U-will-overpower-the-720-by-a-mile" crazies come out of the woodwork? I'm not sure..Me neither. In this case, it works either way.
holy crap this thread moves faster than I can ninja-edit.
And I stick by my reasoning. Nintendo have always been about the profit margins. Xenoblade may be a niche darling, but the game had no mainstream exposure. Hell, it nearly didn't get released in the US. It wsipple hadn't said otherwise I wouldn't have guessed Nintendo had much faith in Monolith.

You mean the Nintendo that funded a sequel to Sin and Punishment?
The Nintendo that localized Legend of Hercules that no one asked for?
Nintendo that made freaking Captain Rainbow?
Come on. Yes, they love profit. They're a business. But they fund lots of stuff that are money sinks.
Oh, come on. You of all people should be able to capitalize on that better.
Nintendo hardware is always a parody of existing hardware.

Don't expect Monolith to touch any old Nintendo franchise. That isn't what they bought them for. Nintendo is quite capable of developing RPGs like Earthbound, Pokémon or Fire Emblem without Monolith, but they simply can't do games like Xenoblade or Disaster. As Iwata said, if they buy studios, they want teams that do what Nintendo can't.I have no idea how Xenoblade did in Europe or Japan, but here in the States, criticizing it for not being a hit is totally unfair. If Nintendo had released it on time and/or put some marketing effort into it, who knows how it could have fared? Instead it's only available at one retailer (Gamestop) and Nintendo.com. Sent to die, when it's a great game all around. But I imagine at least Nintendo realizes what a talented studio they are and apparently they just need to have the right property for them to produce. Earthbound / StarTropics maybe?

For what it's worth, S&P on Virtual Console sold incredibly well, so they thought it would be a safe investment.
I don't know about that other one, but wasn't Captain Rainbow a rather low budget bit of fanservice?
I imagine none of the budgets for these games particularly broke the Nintendo bank however. We've all seen what damage inflated HD budgets can do to devs/pubs this gen.
But hey. I was wrong. I'm cool with that. Monolith are good guys and I hope their next game is as good as Xenoblade.
And we, the gamers who love quirky experiences, benefit. Sometimes it's frustrating, as I'd like sequels to these non-mainstream worlds, but I'm also thankful to get to experience them in the first place. You mean the Nintendo that funded a sequel to Sin and Punishment?

I'd like to see just a few "what in the hell..?" titles during E3. These titles often serve as great punctuation marks for a generation's library.
(and while I'm wishing, I still want that epic stealth game set in 1920s Paris/Rome/Berlin/Barcelona/Copenhagen/etc.. I can hear the jazzy soundtrack now.. ahh..)

Xenoblade didn't break the bank, either. It certainly didn't get the budget that Skyward Sword did.
I'm not talking about Xenoblade though. I'm saying that Monolith's next title is a risky investment considering their track record (I'm looking at you Disaster). I can only hope that Nintendo splashes on the marketing budget this time.
Also: didn't EAD3 lose the plot for the first half SS's lengthy dev cycle? Mismanagement definitely contributed to that budget.
No, they didn't lose the plot.
What happened was that Motion Plus was introduced like halfway through, so they reworked the entire game to revolve around it.
Note that all signs point to Nintendo funding Eternal Darkness 2 for Wii U, which is highly unlikely to turn a profit. I can only assume that this is a deeply misguided attempt to court the aforementioned PS360 demographic.
What signs? Eternal Darkness 2 would be such a waste of time for those developers.
those guys said:Something interesting though is the the fact that Silicon Knights want to focus on their roots, with the company refocusing on one of its most requested titles for the next generation. Could this be a return to Eternal Darkness? After all, last year Nintendo trademarked the title again, spawning rumours of a return. After taking this into consideration, there's the question of whether it could come to Wii U and perhaps even be a launch title for the system.
'We're really excited and we're working on our next generation stuff. We're working on an IP that's our most requested and we're really excited about that,' said company founder Dennis Dyack
