Kid Icarus Uprising |OT| On a Wing and a Prayer

If your Magnus Club doesn't have +4 run speed I don't want to hang out with you

Funny, just this Saturday I crafted this Magnus Club:

Value: 250

Ranged: 0
Melee: 6

Speed +4
Melee Combo +1
Heart Bonus -2

But does it have six stars in range?

im completely jealous of that +4 speed

Its charge shot does like, 40 damage (>_<)

This wouldn't be a problem if it didn't charge so darn fast, meaning I have to waste a shot and about 4 seconds of time if I want to melee someone. It's possible to use, but it takes a lot of strategizing.

I got all the scans online except for two (little girl and some other Famitsu card) to scan. Those ones had the stained glass greyed out. I think the stained glass colors and shapes are the actual data (which is probably just a number).

That Tiny Cartridge link says Nintendo of Europe is going to start selling AR cards for monies.
Which site? If it was strategy wiki, i got them all to scan.

No, it was Nintendo Life or something. Will check out Strategy Wiki.

EDIT: Yeah, not finding any AR cards on there.

This is the sound of me vomiting everywhere. You're going for -4 speed on a club? Why not just never move? :|

It's not like I sit there and decided to make a club with -4 speed. I just wanted to
beat Magnus with the Magnus club
and that was the only one I could forge.

GAF, please tell me, I haven't been able to establish what kind of game KIU is based on the reviews.

Is it a shooter ? A 3D shooter ? Is it on rails ? Or not ? There are dungeons ? So we can explore, talk to NPCs ? What ?

Please enlighten me.

The game is divided into two segments every level; an on-rails aerial shooter section reminiscent of Sin and Punishment, and an action-oriented TPS ground section. Some levels resemble dungeons, castles, etc. and there's lots of tresure to be found in each one. No NPCs to interact with, but the game has tons of colourful and memorable characterd that converse with each other every second.

All in all, a very fun, unique game and definitenly one you should check out.

Thanks, and does the game use the CCPro ? If yes, what's the preferred control scheme here on GAF ? (Stylus or CCPro)

It only uses Circle Pad Pro for left-handed control schemes; you always have to use the stylus (the controls are highly customizable, though).

The controls work great for the type of game it is, and you'll feel really awesome once the moment comes when they finally click.

Personally I just fused and fused and fused things up in value until I found things that I liked. I ended up with first a violet palm, and then a Viridi palm, both over 300 value and with +5 defense. I personally preferred to focus on defense followed by range values, as I like being able to take more hits and deal more damage, cutting down on the potential damage done by screw-ups.

I loved the cursed palm. Good homing effects, pretty good melee power, and the charged shots are good as well. I made a pair of cursed palms the day I got the game and i've been using them since.

As for Palms, I personally prefer the Ninja Palm (what is it with me and Japanese-inspired weapons?) Great rate of fire, great charge shots, good melee power, and a quick movement speed. It doesn't really do too much damage, but with quick reflexes and a good power set, you can cherrytap your enemies to death before they even know it.

Violet Palms are great, they've got good homing and a good rate of fire, plus great range.
At 4.5 stars, I get about 25m, almost 50m for a forward dash charge shot.

The homing on Violet Palms and Viridi Palms seems about the same to me, but Violet Palms shots, if not locked on, still have a decent chance of hitting people, since the shots fly everywhere.

Crescent Palms for me. Though I'm solely a Light V Dark player. Use it as an aggressive shield type. During initial rushes its great canceling power gives your side great footing for rushes. And on more open maps I scout thus pesky club users and cancel all of their full level traveling shots. The biggest down side are those select weapons that the crescent don't stop. All staffs from what I can tell and a few bows.
Thanks for your responses and sorry to wait a week to get back to this.

I am continuing my slog the 9.0s and I am still in search of a better weapon. I tried out those various Palms and I still prefer my trust Aurum Palm. Actually, I haven't tried the Violet Palm yet (I just haven't come across a good one yet) and I also spent some time with a fantastic Virgo Palm (not really my thing). Generally I just prefer the shot speed, power, and especially charge speed of the Aurum Palm.

To anyone that is following this thread: what weapon type(s) do you use on 9.0 levels?

Palms aside, I think I'm going to try Orbitars next. Does anyone use Orbitars for 9.0 single player? And if so, which ones?

I'm kind of amazed in general that a detailed weapon guide hasn't popped up online yet. Considering the detailed Smash Bros. guides out there, I had just expected that every weapon would have been fully dissected at this point.

Nintendo World Report's First (of maybe many) Kid Icarus: Uprising tournament is looking for three-person teams. It's Light vs. Dark.

We have a bunch of prizes in the works, mostly consisting of eShop games. As of this minute, we have copies of Mutant Mudds and Pyramids that we'll be giving out. Nintendo of America gave us a Kid Icarus swag box, too.

If you have any questions, either ask them here, on NWR, or PM me.

Good luck to anyone who enters.

Oooh i want to enter that tournament.

How many teams have signed up so far?

EDIT: Nachocrunk sounds legit

"If anyone else wants to join my elite team, leave me a message or tweet @NachoCrunk

In order to join you must qualify accordingly...

1: Have a Skype. "Group communication"
2: All weapons must be valued at 300 & up.
3: Have an open variety of weapons & powers

I'm looking for people, which have time and skill to win the competition."

I think I have about 100 ranged kills for every 1 melee kill (but then again I've been playing almost exclusively single player, and my average intensity cleared is like 7.5)

The attributes I look for on a weapon tend to be:
Overall Defense
Health
Stamina
Evasion
Some kind of dash charged shot (forward dash preferred)

I should eally try to get a negative attribute of some kind so I can end up with better positive attributes/star ratings, though.

I like my hearts, so maybe knockback defense would be a good choice instead? (I use a cursed palm)

If you don't melee much, Melee Combo -x might be a good choice for you. Item/Power Attack -x may also be useful, depending on your playstyle.

Just annihilated an entire other team in LvD. Got 1500 points; the next most effective person had 600 points. Used reflect barrier three times in a closed room to kill two opposing players in the first thirty seconds. Killed the enemy angel after stealing his explosive flame. And I got two 250+ weapons for my trouble. All this with my crappy 2.5/3 hedgehog claws. Did I mention one of my teammates was idle?

This is my favorite multiplayer competitive action game in a long, long time. Like maybe since Twisted Metal 2. I wish I had people to play local with, though.

Beat chapter
-15-
just now...

What... WHAT?! No seriously... I did NOT see that one coming. I mean,
it's a story about gods and angels fighting each other... and then THE ALIENS INVADED!
Why is this story so nuts? Is this what Project Sora does when they're allowed to do what they feel like? They should have gone with the original story for Brawl... I'm sure it'd have been much more crazy than the one we got.

And then I met
Pyhrron. He's awesome.
I loved the final lines of the chapter.
"Pyhrron senses danger. Now Pyhrron sees it!"
How can you not love that?

So, does the game get more nuts? Who am I kidding, of course it will, right?

It always funny watching someone play through this for the first time . The cycle of" Wait WHAT?! Did that just happen? This chapter is so awesome! There is no way the game can get crazier/better, right?!" Never gets old.

That's sexy, Chet. If I snorted cocaine I would do so off her stomach.

Also, those stage AR cards are amazing, most notably because those stage models aren't available as straight-up idols (although larger dioramas are). This makes me wonder what other AR models are locked away in the game, accessible only by card and not by idols...

Well, at this point, I'm kind of expecting the game to get even better. It seems to be the thing the game does. I heard a rumor as to what Pit does in the later chapters, and I look forward to seeing it.

Also, did you know you can grab the subtitles when they're on the bottom screen? Touch them with the stylus and flick up t throw them to the top screen. New problem... getting them back down again.

You can change where you want the subtitles to go in the options menu. They're better at the top anyway

Touch the little triangle on the top left of the Touch Screen to bring them back down. No need to go into Settings at all.

...that final chapter was weak.
Ultimately, I couldn't buy Hades as a villain. He is a prankster and the stuff he does to threaten the world is indeed horrendous, but the final confrontation feels very unlike the rest of the game. It's just escalation for the sake of escalation, but there's no real sense of where this battle is taking place and why any of the people in the world care about this battle.

Chapter eight didn't quite have this element either, but it made up to it by integrating every gameplay mechanic introduced so far in a long and tortuous siege into Medusa's castle sequence. It fools you into thinking the game is ending for real and it pays off with an amazing boss battle that is simply fun to deal with. This sudden transformation into just another Cave shmup? Not so much.

There's also the fact that there are a lot of plot threads that just don't get picked up on again. Magnus' relationship with Dark Lord Gaol is never explained, and when he comes back to the scene he's just there as an excuse to use a different character. I wouldn't give much thought into any of this is the plot didn't take itself heavily after chapter eighteen. They try to put Palutena's fall of grace as this calamity from which the fate of the world hinges, but follow it with very stupid writing immediately after she gets back to normal.

Additionally: Why would you make such a big deal of Pit burning his wings if you were gonna give them back to him in the next chapter? Pittoo controls exactly the same as him, so there's no gameplay reason for that plot development either. You could have made his recovery a part of the three trials. Make it so that Dinthos or whatever can fix Pit. Make him earn his return to grace, do something more than just a cheap moment of tragedy. Viridi and Hades constantly point out that Pit's devotion for Palutena is nonsensical, so why didn't you take the opportunity to play around with that idea anymore?

I loved the rest of the game though, it's just that the story is tonally inconsistent and a lot of the story elements don't make sense. Which I would normally not complain about (if you play video games for the plot you are doing it wrong), but I came to like the characters after all. They deserved more.

Re: gameplay issues: I got used to the controls after a few hours and I can't see any other way to play this title. There's just far too much shit going on for a traditional controller setup to work. Maybe the Wiimote might be a better fit, but at the same time you would be losing the portability aspect.
