I can see a lot of potential for DLC characters. I'm torn as to that being a good or bad thing, because, generally, DLC annoys the hell out of me.

I think a lot of people posting in this thread simply aren't familiar with the sheer amount of franchises that Sony can bring to a game like this.

Yes, it's undeniable: Third Parties help MAKE PlayStation.

With that said, it can't be denied that, over 15+ years, Sony has built an incredibly strong stable of original, PlayStation exclusive IPs that have large to huge followings alongside those 3rd party IPs that put PS on the map like Tomb Raider, Final Fantasy, Resident Evil, and Metal Gear Solid.

I'm excited about the prospect of playing with Snake, Lara, Cloud, and Leon/Jill/Chris/Claire, etc, but I'm even more pumped about duking it out as Ratchet, or Jak, or Sly, or Kratos, or Ico, or Wander, or Sweet Tooth, or Gabe Logan, or Tomba, or Alundra.

Also, they need to strike a deal with Ubisoft and put Rayman in the game. I just beat Origins on Vita yesterday, and it was a fantastic game experience.

I think Rayman would have some really interesting gameplay, and if they do a stage inspired by him, I hope to god it's one of the beautiful, multi-layered 2D pieces from Origins. Such a breathtakingly beautiful game. Imagine, fighting with this as a backdrop:

6783017008_a312e56a7e_z.jpg

6825553674_fc9f13cd1e_c.jpg

And crossing that over with another franchise like Tomba, or Dark Cloud/Rogue Galaxy/White Knight Chronicles.

EDIT: I just had an epiphany - Pack the PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale retail release with a demo of The Last of Us. BOOM, instant million seller day one! Lol.

And this is exactly how this shit works.

General words of advise if you ever try out the series: TM1 is alright but TM2 is much better and has some good cutscenes. TM3 and TM4 are complete trash so don't bother with them. TM: Head On is less trash but still a good amount of trash. Twisted Metal: Black is a really good one but it has a much darker tone. The Twisted Metal reboot on PS3 though is where its at, really well done but you definitely need to have a feel for this type of gameplay.

this seem like the whole plan to get people interested in old and new IPs. I would probably never played earthbound if wasn't for ness

So, after some digging, I found this:

"Characters can be killed through standard combat, but it is relatively rare and difficult compared to deaths that came through the specials."

http://www.digitaltrends.com/gaming...n-all-stars-battle-royale-and-we-go-hands-on/

The problem is, this is the exact OPPOSITE of what everyone else (IGN, Gametrailers, Destructoid, etc) was saying, that you can only kill through supers. I really, really wish the developers weren't so tight lipped on the game even though they just revealed it, the site is barren and devoid of features/info for the game and their own website hasn't been updated in ages.

I just wish there was a way of clarifying this, I'm getting pretty desperate to know if there's another way of KOing outside of supers -_- I just really, REALLY hope there are other ways of KOing. Anyone else have any luck finding a reliable source?

Paul Gale said the same thing, and he has always been right. He also talks about death from falling of stage and recovery moves (iv seen what looks like fat princesses recovery move in a game play video)

"If you fall/get knocked off a stage without recovering back onto it, you’ll die. On stages without ledges, you’ll die by a big enough attack or enough back-to-back damage (or environmental death)"

http://paulgalenetwork.com/home/201...-bros-fighter-exclusive-to-paul-gale-network/

I can see third parties wanting to add their characters to this if the game does well, but I'm not sure how many of them would want a stage inspired by their games if they knew it was going to be clashed with another game. I mean as much as I'd love a Tomb Raider stage clashing with Uncharted, would Square want that?

The multiple franchises per stage thing is really cool also. I don't want to see any stage that isn't mixed with another franchise even if third party.

Of the characters so far, Sweet tooth looks the most fun to play.
I would probably agree with this. Lots of good short range moves and some fun long range ones as well. Plus his level 3 super awesome. Maybe not as powerful as Parappa's instant KOs but it looks fun and appears to have a lot of different moves aside from the chain gun.

When you see Sweet Tooth and the first thing that comes to mind is jugalos, boy I think you have issues. First of all, sane people don't follow those losers. Second, gamers don't listen to their trash. So I'm guessing you must be a juggalo yourself/a follower or have interests in them in some shape or form. From a gamers prospective, when I see ST, all I think is serial killer. Obviously not when I see him in PBR as I think him as a Sony character that's well established in gaming and fits right in the brawler.

I love the idea of multi-layered backgrounds. I just saw a video where Hades turn back and start attacking the Patapon layer of the back.

I don't know what those jugaloos are, but Sweet Tooth is a remarkable PS character, so it fits perfectly. Don't forget the announcement of Twisted Metal reboot on E3? stage, with the character. Also, is fit much easier in the brawler role than most of other characters, like Parappa or Fat Princess (i like them, too, but it's a little weird to see Parappa kicking and punching around).

Yeah but according to Paul Gale on that same article said the RPG used to be a 1 Hit kill which in this current build it isn't. So there has most likely been some changes since when Paul Gale has played it.

If there is a character focus, I'd like it to be towards their newer IP's. Sony has created so many and I'd hate for them to be buried by nostalgia. A balance of new and old would be great, but again, sooo many to choose from and I feel the spotlight should be on what they will keep offering in the future.

So you attack me because I don't like a character you like. Okay kid.

The concept of them detached from their vehicles from a gameplay perspective is what I'm not so cool on. Sweet Tooth leaving his car in a cutscene doesn't bother me. It's actually kind of a confusing thought.

I mean, what?
Did you have the same feelings for captain falco? People get out of their cars, mang!

I feel like the people suggesting stages like this, or mixing two racing stages together, are kinda missing the point. From the stages we've seen, the idea seems to be:

1) Stages that are thematically disparate (God of War + Patapon, Ratchet & Clank + God of War)
2) Games that couldn't really justify a full stage in and of themselves (Buzz, Hot Shots Golf)

Mixing up two games with similar themes wouldn't be nearly as fun as these.

This gives me hope that they'll introduce KO's by normal attacks on E3.

Maybe Superbot focused on super only for KO's on the first event so they could evade some criticism that it's to much like SSB? As you said, Paul haven't been wrong about any major things about PASBR and Superbot may listen to our feedback and complaints about this.

So you call him a kid? And we get it, it's your opinion. I couldn't think of a better person to add to this roster for a Sony fighting game. The developers and everyone but you agrees with me. That's our opinion, too. Don't select him and move on.

This parallel doesn't work so well with me. I didn't even know that was a thing until a couple of years ago when I found out he's from F-Zero. My distaste for Sweet Tooth as he is in PASBR goes further than simply being out of the car, however, and I feel like I've explained that enough.

Yes, I called him a kid. Such a poorly though out post; I'll give him the benefit of a doubt and assume he's a kid rather than a dummy.

You clearly don't get it because I agree he should be in this game. This is great, fantastic. I've been emphasizing that point since I joined in the discussion. My criticisms on Sweet Tooth are superficial; I understand that and I wished you all would have sooner.

Haha ah geez what the hell

There's nothing wrong on not liking a character, but whining on how Sweet Tooth is based on Juggalos just baffles me.

I'm not "whining" for no reason here, I explained why I don't like a character and another person (such as in a conversation, for example) wanted me to expound on it. Acting like I'm saying stuff that wasn't asked of me is stupid, stop being that.

Exactly.

So many crossover type titles are so heavily invested in nostalgia, to the detriment of their potential. The internet legions are always crying about a character being "iconic" enough to be in a crossover or not, without realizing that being in crossovers is the kind of thing that elevates a character's recognizability.

In fact, I wish more crossover titles would pull a successful version Amingo from MvC2. Appearing in a crossover title first.

Imagine it, the final unlocked secret character for PASBR is someone no one has ever seen before, then after a few weeks while everyone is speculating, BAM, they announce the game featuring that new character.

Marvel realized the potential of MvC3 to push their current and upcoming stuff, Capcom put in characters who hadn't had games in 10+ years and don't seem to be having any in the next 10 either.

Two different approaches to this kind of thing, and I hope Sony picks the former.

Why is the discussion of Sweet Tooth continuing? If one person doesn't like character then he doesn't like the character, Sony has so many IPs that even I dont like a few. I could care less about some fat princess or character from Killzone. Yeah lets discuss why Im wrong now :\

How DARE you dislike what I like?! Now let's argue about it for 8 pages! :\

Seriously, enough with the bickering about Sweet tooth, we get it, already.

I'm really interested in seeing what the full roster is going to be. I can't wait to see what they've come up with for Cole and Drake. I think Drake should be a brawler for sure, and I think Cole should have a mix of his Lightning, Fire, and Ice powers.

I know they probably won't have too many multiples from one franchise, but I'd love to see Kuo or Nix. Especially Nix. She just seems like such a perfect fit for a game like this.

Jen from Primal is a must, and they should also include Lazarus from Ghosthunter. The game play potential of a lot of these lesser known characters could gain them a new following.

I find it amusing that it's already working in this thread, with people setting out to try the games of franchises they are not familiar with. lol.

EDIT: @ffdgh - I think they should have the RYNO from the Ratchet games as an item (although I imagine it may just be his Level 3 super, which would be awesome, really). Maybe the ape net from Ape Escape; you could use that to stun another player, or steal/capture AP from them. Maybe the chain gun from Resistance; the one that puts up the barrier as a secondary skill. It could continuously fire, while putting up a shield to protect from frontal attacks (and a potential nice counter from Radec's ranged attacks).

to go off the subject of characters, what items do you all want to appear?

1. Glyphs from Journey that give you temporary flight, helps with avoiding getting damage from supers.
2. Precursor Orbs from Jak and Daxter to increase knock back damage.
3. Morph o ray from Ratchet. Turns players into chickens.

I don't want to derail so I'll stop replying to the guy above. And I'm not a kid or a dummy....er OK. Anyways I believe since this is a video game (duh), the devs can do as they wish with say Sweet Tooth. Yea he normally is in a car all the time but the devs can use that to their advantage and make him this bad ass brawler with a shotty in this game. They can also give him his handy machete/giant knife to bring his foes to their knees. There is no point to over think everything. Now Fat Princess is questionable but again, since we have never seen her fight, we really don't know it till the devs go and make her into what they believe a character like Fat Princess would be like in a brawler and I have no issues since it appears she is a competent contestant with the villagers she sends at you and her becoming a chicken which is hilarious.

I'm curious if you can play 2-3 players in one console and go online like that, the 3rd or 4th player being an online user. That would be nice.

I was thinking for an Uncharted stage theme, or at least an Uncharted mashup element, they could have that signature attack helicopter moment from Uncharted 2 come in the background, shoot into the stage and make the central platform collapse, if you're on the platform when it collapses it KOs you :)

What the hell am I supposed to call this game in shorthand?!

My friends and roommates would all refer to the Smash Bros games as either "Smash" or whichever particular entry in the series ("Smash", "Melee" or "Brawl") we planned on playing. Sony Smash is the only thing that rolls off the tongue like I'd like it to, but given the caustic reaction of certain people I think it'd be in my best interest to never call it that.

Cutting the title into either Playstation All-Stars or Playstation Battle Royale would do wonders for my ability to actually refer to the game out loud without getting tongue tied or embarrassed. I really hope they change the name to something shorter.

I don't feel like its worth the trouble of explaining why calling this game a "rip-off" is profoundly stupid, especially as someone who has been playing games like this (Digimon Rumble Arena, anyone? Onimusha Blade Warriors? This isnt anything new) with friends his whole life. I will say that the addition of a functional online component was enough for me to text several of my friends and suggest doing some weekly games in the spirit of our old Smash Bros get togethers, and thats one obvious reason this game should exist: there just aren't any good alternative on the PS3, or with decent online and voice chat.

Heres hoping the game turns out great, and certain rabid fans get over themselves.

edit:

Ape Escape net to stun players.

Or, you know, the stun club :p

Ape Escape net to stun players.

We're on the same page there! I listed it in my post above. lol

EDIT: Lol at pantsmith. I thought about that, but I figured that Spike would already be using it as one of his weapons (assuming Spike will be in the game; although I agree with another poster that Specter might be the better choice).

just call it Sony AllStar. the All Stars seems to be the brand name, Battle Royale will change up as the sequels come out is my guess. so for the sequel they can call it Playstation Allstars Battle Opera.

I wish that this is hopefully what is going on, they cut off the code+other modes+KOs to present the game in a vacuum, like devs. usually do at unveiling events like this. I'm going to be on board unless the game fails really bad, I've been wanting this for years so... I just want it to be everything it should be - and not limited to how tactical it is (by only giving KOs to supers).

on the other hand, the normals seems to be a lot per character and looks like they are very situational. like sweet tooth dropping mine trap, parrapa ap boombox, sly invulnerable barrel etc that I think the battle will be interesting enough even without health meter.

well that's what I think anyway, I wouldn't object if they decided to add health meter somehow, but I kinda doubt it. after hearing a couple podcast impression, seems like the lack of health meter is seen as what's unique about the game. Garnett especially sounds like he like it a lot, and he said that it felt the character movelist is very customized for the character and over time, may give you more satisfaction to take your time and master that character compared to Smash character who often felt homogenized. he did say it's just his initial impression and he only play 6 character so who knows if Superbot can really make 24+ unique character with different playstyle

Groovitron, Steve the talking slingshot, some variant of the Morph-o-ray
Second the Groovitron. The though of seeing Sweet Tooth and Kratos dancing about is just too good for it not to be included.

I have a feeling alot of stuff from the Ratchet and Resistance series can be used as items, the weapons/items from those two series are all pretty diverse and unique.

I hope they really push with the 3rd party characters unlike nintendo. I was a little dissapointed after Snake and Sonic in brawl being the only ones and even then those 2 are not exactly iconic 3rd party characters for Nintendo tho there was a certain charm having Sonic battle against Mario.

So for my hopes for 3rd party characters without going too over the top:

Cloud would be the best one SE could give followed by Sora (Disney would be a problem) and Lara. I can definately see them on board with all kinds of crossover stuff they have been doing and going for more western approach with the AC and ME stuff. Worst case scenario would be if they gave Lightning instead but even that would be better than nothing from FF of course.

Snake is the one I think has the best chance gettin in. I kinda hope it would be Old Snake just so I could kick ass as an elderly character :). Everyone is worried about female representation and dont think about the seniors!

Ubisoft will most definately give something. I'd fope for Rayman but maybe they want to push AC3 with Assassin character. AC stuff has been in so many crossovers allready so would be the second least surprising character appearing after Snake.

Finally for Cacpom I too would hope for RE character. My pick would be RE2 Claire or even Ada for dat female roster. Other thing I'd like if they went with a monster instead. Nemesis is allready in MvC so Birkin would be a great choice. MR X would be really fun as well but Birkin I think is more iconic for the series and the second game and would have more interesting moveset. Dante of course would be really good choice as well.

Character that would be the best thing ever to have is Crash but I have no idea what Universal would think about that. Spyro would be nice too if they can get Crash.

For the characters revealed I'm so happy Parappa is in . I can totally see for more weird characters from PS1 era since someone from Superbot commented on one of the videos that fans will get both the more requested characters and the ''omg I cant believe they remember that one!''. Vib Ribbon or something comin perhaps?

So do you guys think there will be any character announcements before e3?

I say they should do 4 or 5 1st party character announcements before the show. (Nathan Drake, Cole McGrath, Jak, Daxter, Ratchet and Clank)

And then focus on some big 3rd party characters at e3.
